I’m with you on this. Based on this image I found with the footprint of the tower superimposed, and my blue markups 😅 I think even the farther tower rooms will be similar distance to the dock as existing DVC studios. Monorail too.

This is excellent thank you! But wow, they really squeezed that tower in there. Looking at the regular progress photos it doesn’t look that crowded. But that aerial view really puts it into context. We are going a the end of July to the Poly, so I guess I’ll see for myself.

Hopefully they’ll make adjustments to handle the increased number of guests - more frequent monorail and boat runs, dedicated buses (i.e., no sharing with GF) at busy times like park open and close, etc.
I don't think you'll see much change on this front. They can only put so many trains on the monorail loop and it is highly regulated/structured in terms of spacing ever since they had that accident years ago.

Same with boats, they only have so many. Busses are a wild card and could have a stop at the Poly2 tower, but that's doubtful considering they don't at VGF1 and BLT.

That’s why I brought up Shades of Green and the closed walkway earlier. Nearly 600 rooms there. Let’s say a third of the rooms went to MK daily. Vast majority got there via PVB infrastructure. That’ll offset a lot of the traffic from PVB2

Monorail also has the dynamic that more trains doesn't mean higher throughput due to that safety buffer. Idle capacity? Yes. Hourly throughput? No.

But they could definitely add more boats, and/or replace smaller boats with bigger boats.

Anyone know how far the walk to TTC will be from the new tower? Also, how far is the walk to GF lobby?

We have only stayed at the PVB longhouses (before and after DVC). Thinking the walk will be about 8-10 minutes, but we are not familiar with that side.

Based on the thread below it should be about the same walk to the Poly Lobby and boat dock on average as the current DVC at Poly. It will be significantly closer to GF lobby but further from the TTC. I would say it takes me about only 5 mins to walk the total width of Poly currently but I'm a fast walker so 5-10 mins seems reasonable.

I think not sharing the bus with GF makes sense. Although it won't help with MK unless they decide to add a MK bus during peak times.

Construction as of 6/2/2023
Just noticed they removed trees that were between the building and the lake. Renderings showed they would have palm trees in there.

If they end up putting palm trees in, would lake view rooms on floors 1-3 have their view of MK blocked?

Happy to pay more points per night, but only if it can see the fireworks without obstruction.

I’m not saying this is necessarily what they’re doing, but they seem really experienced in FL / at Disney with removing mature trees and replanting them. Maybe the trees will be back (or maybe not? 😅).

Regardless I’d expect 1st floor of this tower to be common areas like restaurant, shops, etc. Guest rooms might not be ground floor except for the one little “wing” that turns south towards the parking lot / monorail track. This would be consistent with Riviera, which has just over a dozen ground floor rooms, only to the one side. BLT has very few 1st floor rooms too.

So the vast majority of lake-facing rooms should be at least 2nd floor, and 2nd floor at Poly can give a decent fireworks display, because they are shot so high in the air. Hopefully you can see past the glare, but this is a fireworks example from Tambu Lounge (2nd floor GCH):

Was considering selling my Poly resale… but I just can’t looking at these photos 🤗

Yeah, this happened to me last year, 2 consecutive monorails came to VGF full up. Quickly learned lesson to just walk to MK and get monorail back
The Grand Floridian really does have the worst spot on the monorail. Often crowded when headed to MK and such a long ride around when headed back.

I’m excited about new food and other offerings at Poly Tower, but I love the location of the existing DVC buildings for access to both monorails via TTC.
