The Poly- What is your favorite longhouse and why?

A few people on the FAQ Poly site started posting their favorite longhouse reviews and I was hoping to hear more. Could you tell me why a certain longhouse is your favorite? Is it because of proximity to the pool? GCH? A beach? Is it because it's quiet, or bustling with people going by? The view?

I am looking in particular for garden view rooms. Any pictures you could also post would be so appreciated. Thanks in advance for your posts!

We always request to stay at the Rarotonga, first floor. It is absolutely beautiful and I don't think we've ever gotten a "bad view room".

It is quiet and peaceful and so close to the GCH and pool, we absolutely love it.

With that being said, we have also stayed in the Niue and that is nice also. It is a really small longhouse and that cuts down on the traffic in the building.

When we went in December, they were going to give us the Fiji building and we turned it down for the Rarotona. I know I know, how can you turn down a marine view, but we love the Rarotonga.

Good luck!

Are the rooms assigned in advance. It looks like our flight will have us arriving in the early evening. I am afraid that we might loose a good location by arriving later.

Google the tikiman site. He goes through the pros and cons of each longhouse.

We stayed in a Magic Kingdom View room in the Tahiti building. It is probably my favorite building because it is so quiet. It is also close to the TTC; the walk from the GCH is long, but well worth it. :)

We like Samoa lst or 3rd floor. Its close to the GCH, Captain Cooks, bus stop short walk away etc. Very convenient to the volcano and quiet pool etc.

We prefer Tahiti.

Wonderful views (on either the GV side, or the LV/MKV side), it is very quiet, and we love the location relative to the TTC and smaller parking lot. Tahiti is also one of the 'newer' longhouses, with the double sinks in the bathrooms.

I think a lot of the debate regarding 'which longhouse is best' will depend on your family's personal priorities. Do you prefer a quiet, more remote location at the resort? Or do you prefer to be right in the middle of the fray... close to all of the activities and amenities, the GCH & restaurants, the pool(s), etc.? There is also the question of which transportation options you will be likely to use most--the monorail from GCH to MK, boat launch to MK, monorail from TTC to Epcot, Ferry from TTC to MK, bus system, etc.? Does anyone in your family have mobility issues or other special needs? The answers to these questions will help to determine which longhouse might suite the preferences and needs of your specific family best.

I also love Samoa if you've booked Garden View. Its close to everything. You'll get people who say its "loud" because its between the pools. Well, the only loud thing was the day they mowed the grass outside. Lol. Nice view and very convenient to go to the pool:

I've only stayed at the Poly once (so far--- going back in April!) and we were in Rapa Nui garden view(not parking lot view) so while we were furthest from the GCH & food & pool, we just loved the quiet location and being a short walk to the TTC & the EPCOT monorail, as we often enough hopped over to Epcot for dinner after a morning elsewhere & afternoon break at the resort. We didn't find the walk back to the GCH / pool area to be all that long.

So for our next trip (also garden view) I requested Tokelau, Tahiti or Rapa Nui, in that order -- basically anything on the side of the resort closest to the TTC. :)

We stayed in Samoa on the 3rd floor, volcano pool side and really loved it! We are returning in Sept. and have requested this building again. It is close to everything but also found it very quiet and relaxing at night. You really can't go wrong with any of the buildings as this is such a beautiful resort.

Our stay was 10 years ago and we had a garden view, 3rd floor, all the way at the end farthest from the GCH in the Rotearoa (then Tahiti) building. We had a great view of palm trees and the monorail. For our upcoming trip we have requested Samoa, Fiji, Rarotonga or Tokelau 3rd floor.

This will be my first stay at the Poly. My request is for a balcony room at Tokelau.

I like the location, and the thought of getting one of the bigger rooms. And I'm really hoping for that balcony!

:ccat: :ccat: :ccat: We love Rapa Nui because it is so quiet. I don't think a whole lot of people request it, so if you like it, it's probably not too hard to get :)

It is great to be so close to the TTC, too!

Well I've only stayed in Hawaii, but I loved it. I was in a garden view room and I could see the quiet pool, which was nice to watch. I loved it because it's concierge level so having the turn down service and the lounge with food was great. The location was perfect too IMHO, I felt very close to the pool, GCH, and the beach.

If I am not mistaken, Tokelau has balconies on all floors.:thumbsup2
So if you get Tokelau, you will get a balcony:goodvibes

Doesn't the ground floor have a patio instead?

Then again, you're right. Either way, we'll be able to go outside with a cup of tea (or a glass of wine :) ) and enjoy the beautiful surroundings.

What I've gotten from this thread is this: there seem to be very few BAD choices!!!

Sorry, I just assumed you knew first floor would be patio. But alot of other buildings have the 2nd floor with a "false bacony". I thought thats what you were referring too. Tokelau is one of a few newer buildings that have balconies on both the second and third floor;)

I agree with your last statement, I think I will be happy with where ever they put us in May

We have stayed:

Tokelau-2nd floor facing Tahiti
Tahiti-2nd floor MK view (awesome)
Fiji- 3rd floor facing Marina-3x's
Requested Samoa, 3rd floor Volcano Pool side for coming up trip

You cannot go wrong no matter where you end up!

thanks for your great responses! I did check out Tikiman's website which is why I wanted some personal experiences as to why you specifically like the different longhouses ( I prefer many opinions vs just one :) ) I like the idea of Samoa as it is close to the pool, But looks like you can get some good water views from both Fiji and Tokelau (sorry about the spelling if it's off!). I was just hoping the more reviews I read, it might help me make up my mind as to which longhouse to request. Part of me wants to just show up and see what I get, and from the sounds of it, there really isn't a bad longhouse to speak of :thumbsup2

Top floor room, Magic Kingdom view, of the Tahiti. Was sooo close to the TTC (5 min walk) Was a long walk from main building & pool, but we thought it was worth it to have the easy & quick direct access to the TTC.

And, the view was spectacular from our floor. Looked to me like some of the 2nd floor rooms would have had obstructed views due to the shrubbery & trees (which were beautiful, though) Loved seeing the early morning on the lake, and seeing Cindy's castle first thing when we got up. We watched the MK fireworks and the elec. light boat parade from our room balcony.

We didn't request this building--figured we'd take potluck with a room--CM checking us in asked if we wanted short walk to TTC or short walk to pool. We opted for TTC & were glad we did.
