The Poly Pool Gate Debate

Does anyone know if the pool bar is gated in as well or can you get to it without going through the gates? We have never tried to "pool crash" but we have always enjoyed going to the pool bar for a drink when we visit the resort.
The Poly pool bar is accessible from both inside and outside the gate. Someone posted a photo on these boards a week or two ago. Can't seem to find it just now...

i would close it and say something like oh you just have to scan your band to get in.

If it makes you feel any better, the gates are there for safety and not to keep out pool crashers. As I understand it, any newly constructed or updated pool must have a fence.

Would I let people in who were lurking outside the gate? Probably. I know I have been lockout outside of a pool gate in certain situations.

While it is true that gates are there for safety and with new construction are required by law, the fact that it is locked and confirmation of resort occupancy is required for use via scanning the magic band also indicates an attempt to use the gate to control pool crashers.

I applaud any attempt by Disney to preserve the use of the resort amenities for paying guests. This is a chronic issue for the Polynesian and keeping that gate locked is a step in the right direction.

you can get in the bar - but think it is easier to go through the inside lobby to get to the pool bar - otherwise (if I remember) it is a long walk around the pool.

well that depends - tried to scan it on what was the right place - did not know it had changed and now was closer to the fence..... really feel stupid and would have been there for a longer time if another guest had not helped me.

I'd like to say I would let it close, but I'm too nice. It does upset me though. Last Sept we stayed at GF and I KNOW all those people were not resort guests at the pools. Very upsetting to be unable to find some pool chair to relax and watch your kiddos play because there are pool crashers abusing the system. I agree all MK resorts should be gated and MB entrance only.

How did you know the people weren't resort guests? Just curious. I never saw this before, that I know of, I'm just wondering what you saw or heard.

On a past stay at the Poly, my family was in the (old) Poly pool and there were two other family groups nearby. The Dad from one of them distinctly said within earshot (paraphrased here): "Yeah, we're staying over at the Sheraton this time. This is our Magic Kingdom day, but we planned to take this break and hop the monorail over here for a swim."

Should I be staying at the resort, I would close the gate behind me going into the pool. I ususally do out of habit if the resort has a gated pool. Wouldn't dream of pool hopping. Those that paid to be at their resort paid to enjoy the resort guest only amenities. No sense in crashing their party. Besides, I wouldn't like it if someone did it to me at my resort.

I think it depends. If it was a crowd lurking I would probably not let them ghost in behind me, but if it was a single or double I might it depends on my mood. No issues telling people to back off and see guest services if they are having issues with their MB.

That would prove it.

So many people on this thread are giving good examples of how they would handle potential pool hoppers trying to enter the pool gate after them. My belief though is that no guest of the Poly should be put in the position of having to deal with having to worry about closing a gate quickly behind them, etc.. Why should the patrons of the resort have to police the gate to any degree? The resort management should pay cm's to do this! Why is the B&YC able to accomplish this yet the Poly cannot?

I'm honestly not worried about it. And I doubt most people are either when they see the crowd. It's just a very specific question.

Personally, I wouldn't shut the gate behind me. I worked enough years at a location with restricted access where we had to close the door behind us, not doing it on vacation. I agree resort management should police the gate if they deem necessary. I've stayed at both Poly and BC over the years and not been able to get a single chair or lounger, or a table, at times (even with all the checking at SAB). Eventually something frees up. Sometimes people get too worked up.

BTW, We did enjoy a few pool days at Poly over the years on some DVC stays. We will miss them! Also I've been mocked by people I know who are Florida locals for paying Poly rates to stay there, because you know, you can stop in for a swim without staying overnight...I always say you do it your way, I do it my way :thumbsup2

There is a portion of pool bar outside the gate.

I would either hang back and observe group or use another gate. It does bother me when people try to get into a pool I'm paying to use. Play where you pay. I hear stories of people getting on elevators trying to get into CL too.

It amazes me that families actually do this? I can't imagine packing up all my beach gear and family and traveling to another pool when there is a pool steps away at my own resort. SMH...
The water is wetter at SAB!!! :fish:
