The Plaza--no more ADRs

I really wish they would go back to day of reservations, most people I know don't know what they want to eat tomorrow let alone 6 months from now. On my last trip in May I ended up cancelling all my ADR's and made them the day of based on what was available. I didn't have a problem fining reservations I enjoyed. Luckily I don't want to eat in the "popular " restaurants I find them way overrated and the food to be mediocre to horrible (BOG). With the MDE app it wouldn't be hard to do day of reservations.

I don't agree but respect your opinion. This isn't the mall here. You wait last minute and you get hit and miss or nada for a lot of restaurants.

I'm wondering if they will be trying something odd here. ADR for 11:00-12:00 and then a walk up to reserve a same day ADR for later in the day? So same day ADR instead of real walk ups? This would explain why it's not a walk up for the 11:00-12:00 time.

You mean back in the day when there were only 2 parks, fewer hotels, and attendance wasn't thru the roof?
Yes! 2 parks, which I can assure you were plenty crowded (as we went in the summer), maybe fewer onsite hotels, but we stayed offsite (and there were plenty of those). Yes, back in the day when you didn't have to micro-manage every aspect of your trip by deciding where you wanted to eat and what rides you wanted to go on, months before your trip.
I do know that is a thing of the past, and I do make ADR's at the 180 day, but I was just agreeing with the OP.

People already have multiple MDE accounts for various reasons and selecting multiple ADRs per day has been discussed here often. Sometimes you have a better shot at getting ADRs at about 45 days than you do 180 as people are dropping them following making FP+ reservations. There have been multiple threads here where people have acknowledged setting up accounts just to grab BOG dinners for every night of their trip with the intention of cancelling almost all of them once they know when they get their best 7dmt or A&E FP.

I don't doubt there are people who do this, but I'm kinda baffled how they can with a credit card used for the guarantee.

Not sure how, but a merchant can see where you live when they run your card. I was in Dallas recently and treated my hosts to dinner at Saltgrass Steakhouse. When the waiter returned my CC after putting it through for payment, he returned it, saying that it was a pleasure to serve somebody who came all the way from New Jersey and that he hoped that I enjoyed my visit to Texas. So I know when he ran my plate, it let him know I was from NJ. Point being that your CC gives a merchant info about you, so I don't know how you fake an ADR with the current system. And my guess is that it's something most guests couldn't be bothered with.

The CC isn't touched unless you miss the ADR so there are a lot of ways around that piece. I also believe there isn't anything to stop you from booking BOG at 4:30, Tiffin at 6:30 and Ohana at 8:30 along with corresponding lunches at the same 2 places everyday until you decide what you want and as long as you decide 24 hours out the CC really is meaningless.

I like it! I think it's good to have options. I don't mind making my ADRs 180 days out, because I love planning, but I know some people like to be more flexible. I think it would be great if Disney had more restaurants where you could walk up without an ADR.
I'm not sure it will be much of an "option," unless you think waiting 45-60 for a table is an option.

I don't like waiting for ADR's (and have had plenty of 20 minute waits past them) so I doubt I'd go back to the Plaza if it became walk up only.
I liked that place too.
I much prefer making ADR's.

I don't understand why Disney chooses to be inconsistent and confusing for people. They are moving towards pre planning with fastpass plus but then away from it with this. Makes no sense to me.

This makes a lot of sense actually. The Plaza has a menu pleasing to pretty much all palates so either that or LTT as a Table Service same day place is a better option than Skipper Canteen.

I have an ADR for the Plaza for October, and was getting a bit concerned. Then I checked, and it is for 12:55. Covered either way.

I was really happy to see this. :flower1: It is nice to have the option to walk up and it be a restaurant that we enjoy. The location can't be beat!:)

Just as well, I guess-- we waited over 40 minutes on our lunch ADR June 7th. Almost gave up when the buzzer went off. Didn't feel like we had a reservation at all.

I had the same problem last November, waited at least 45 min totally ridiculous.

LOL. I just meant I like the idea of some restaurants not taking ADRs. If every restaurant requires an ADR, then you have no options, especially if they are all booked 180 days away! The Plaza without ADRs might have a long wait, but surely it won't be 45-60 minutes all day, there will be slow and busy times, and you have the "option" of going somewhere else if the wait is too long.

I read on wdwmagic that they will continue to take ADR's between 11am-12pm daily.

Sorry to bump a old thread but I read this too - however tried to get the Plaza today for 11am and was not able too. Tried it as soon as reservations opened and I can't see it being that popular to go within seconds? Or is it with this new change - everyone wants to make sure they do have a new table?! I also tried for the 18th as we are onsite so our 180+10 opened up and nothing there either....

Has anyone else had success booking a ADR for this 1 hour they are supposedly allowing them for?

I made an ADR for the Plaza yesterday for our October trip at 11:10 AM. I must have missed this thread before, as I just read something on the theme parks board that alluded to the change so I did a search for info. I have to say, given the size of the restaurant, I find this very confusing.

I just made a reservation for the Plaza this week. Also, the WDW website still lists it as taking reservations. I don't think the premise of this thread (that they've stopped taking ressies) is valid.

While I don't think ADRs should be bookable 6 months in advance (I think 3 months in advance would be more reasonable) I'm glad we don't have to wait until day-of.

I wouldn't find anything enjoyable about wandering around the parks, from restaurant to restaurant, trying to find something with an opening for a meal with a reasonable wait. Yuck! Or having my nose buried in my phone during the trip, trying to find out where we'll eat each day. Double yuck!

One reason I like having a meal or two per day planned in advance is that I don't have to worry about it during the trip. We can relax and enjoy ourselves, fully taking in our surroundings, without wondering where/how we'll be able to find a nice restaurant for our next meal. We've taken care of that in advance, so that day-of, when we're focused on the magic & enjoying ourselves, all we have to do is show up.

Thanks both, I meant to come back and say I did get one after a few days of checking often. Seems like people are booking the hour slot so maybe a wrong move on Disney's part to do this?

And I couldn't agree more. I would just rather plan 180 days in advance (which I know some people hate) than walk around the park hoping to get in somewhere. It could take ages and take time out of my day to go on attractions and see shows!
