The People Movers...why are they gone??

DH and I watched a WDW documentary last night, very cool by the way, and they still have the people movers. I heard/thought/remember reading that DLR got rid of the people movers because people were jumping from cars which had caused a few deaths. What do you know about them?? Were they removed because people weren't following the rules, they didn't really move people from place to place, or because they were more of an upkeep than they really were worth?? It makes me sad to see the old tracks when you wait in line for Star Tours. I would love to hear what you know!

but I know that when they re-did Tomorrowland, the people mover tracks were used for a ride called rocket rods, that went along the tracks at a much faster pace than people movers went. There were constant mechanical troubles with the rocket rods, and they closed after a fairly short life. Then they just never brought back the people mover!! Sad, I think!

I remember riding the Rocket Rods and I thought that they were fun. I also enjoy the People Mover at WDW. It's a great way to relax and still do something interesting.

I love them at WDW (and used to at DL). It was always an uncrowded way to relax our way around Tomorrowland.

The TTA WDW's version of the people mover has always been one of our favorite rides. When DS was younger we would ride TTA and stop at CoP when we needed a break in the middle of the day and did not want to head back to the hotel. It was always a relaxing time and was seldom any wait.

I thought I'd read recently that they are thinking about bringing the people mover's back.

I love them at WDW (and used to at DL). It was always an uncrowded way to relax our way around Tomorrowland.

Rumors had been going around that they were going to bring it back. However, due to OSHA and other safety regulations, it was discovered that it won't be possible as the track is now. Apparently the clearance from vehicle to walls and other fixtures is too close for todays standards.
In order to comply with regulations, they would have to make the tunnels bigger so people could not reach out and touch them from the vehicle. This would require reengineering load bearing walls, especially through Space Mountain. I doubt if they will go to that expense. It would be easier I think to redirect the track elsewhere.

The PeopleMover through the World of Tron! Oh, how I miss that! That was my favorite! But I'm a bit biased because Tron is my hero.

I never knew of a Tron attraction. What was that like?

I also didn't know about the deaths from the People Mover.

The TTA is still a fave at WDW. I would love it if they brought back the WEDWay here as well. The ride used two different propulsion systems at each park, so that's probably why WDW has it still but we don't here in the west.

I always enjoyed to People Mover when it was at Disneyland. It was a great way to escape the crowds and relax a little when the park was crowded. Whenever we go to the Magic Kingdom (WDW) I always ride the People Mover and the Carousel of Progress (I also miss this particular attraction at Disneyland).

As for the deaths on the People Mover. I do recall it happening during Grad Night. A couple of teenagers were hopping from car to car. I don't remember the exact details. I also remember reading about it in Mouse Tales by David koenig; there is one section that talks about the deaths that have occurred at Disneyland.
