Since we will only be at VB for 2 nights and need to pick one restaurant.................looking for advice???

The Patio or the Ocean Grill?? ALL opinions welcomed!! The good, the bad and the ugly!!!

I believe we went to the Patio a few years back on advice from someone at the resort but were disappointed!! I am not positive though...........I do recall we went over a bridge (inland) and the restaurant was set back off the road overlooking the intercoastal water........?? Does this ring a bell????

Also............we need a kids menu??!!?!?

Thanks...............

The Patio is located in Vero, proper.

We have eaten there several times and have really enjoyed it - the early bird special is a DEAL!

The restaurant is filled with some really interesting antiques.

But the Ocean Grill is a landmark. Though we haven't tried it, it seems that most people recommend it.

I think you'll do well with either of them.

The atmosphere of Ocean Grill can't be beat. You are literally hanging over the ocean. I've always enjoyed it there and it is very popular.

The Patio has had good reviews but it's not scenic in terms of location.

Here's the Ocean Grill's website for comparison. I agree that you probably won't go wrong with either choice.

Ocean Grill

The Ocean Grill was terrific, from service to food. Their house dill dressing is delicious, great hot sour dough bread with the meal too. I had excellent fried oysters, not the heavily breaded NE type. These had a crispy, light coating.

The location is beautiful especially at sunset.

If you're interested in upscale dining, check out www.tidesofvero.com This place is top notch. You will pay accordingly.

This looks like another great option!! Thanks for sharing.

Althought the Tides looks lovely, I am on vacation and truly do not like to get too dressed up!!!

What is the dress like at The Ocean Grill? The Patio? I don't think it was the Patio that we had the no so good experience at!!

I definelty like the atmosphere of the Ocean Grill!!

Like most of Florida -- casual, casual, casual for the Ocean Grill. You may see some folks dressed for business -- because it also seems to be popular for business meetings. I wouldn't go dressed like you were cleaning the garage but nice shorts and a polo should be fine.

The Ocean Grill would be a WONDERFUL choice! We just ate there 2 weeks ago and it was delicious! Very casual attire, but very nice views and very nice service!! You can check out their menu at www.ocean-grill.com. They don't list the childrens menu, but we had DD, (6) her friend (also 6) and a 2 year old with us and there were no complaints from them! I believe the menu was pretty basic for kids, chicken fingers, hamburger, mac n cheese, etc. but they also had fried shrimp which my DD loved. The kids also get dessert with their meal as well as a shark tooth in a glass bottle! That was a real hit!! We all really enjoyed our meal. I think you won't go wrong if you eat there! Good luck!

Ocean Grill is great. We were there in mid-June. We had no reservation since they take reservations for parties of 5 or more and it was just the 2 of us, but we arrived on a Saturday right after 5 pm when they opened for dinner, so we were seated immediately. Service and food were both excellent. We had the molehill of onion rings (plenty for two), excellent house salads, DW had a filet (she's not a seafood person), and I enjoyed grilled fresh fish. There are a number of side order options with dinner. We each had the baked sweet potato.

Definitely recommended.

We ate at the Ocean Grill July 3rd. Excellent. We will go back. I think reservations were for parties of 6 or more (could be wrong). We waited 30 minutes and spent it walking around nearby.

Here's what's on the Ocean Grill website about reservations:

Reservations for five people more accepted. Please call between 8am and 4pm

Also, a reminder that they aren't open for lunch on Saturday and Sunday.

Former VB resident weighing in here...

They're both good, but your quandry is gonna be - location and atmosphere (Ocean Grill) vs. a better meal all around (IMHO, Patio)?

The Patio's location sure isn't anything special, but I've gotta give it the edge in quality.

I guess for the full Florida coastal experience, you ought to go to the Ocean Grill. You shouldn't be disappointed. Do try the Patio sometimes.

Last time we went to Ocean Grill they brought bread, crackers and a cheese spread before we ordered. Do they still do that? That was our favorite part of the meal. Loved the location and veiw.

We were at the Ocean Grill earlier this month and we loved it too. They still do (at least when we were there) bring the basket with bread, crackers and that wonderful cheese spread. We had a great meal there. We also went to a rib place called Bono's the following night which was good as well and very reasonably priced. Bono's was more inland thought down US1 and looked to have a lot of locals there. We just happened across it.

Well, it is the Ocean Grill for us next Saturday night!! What made us choose this was not only the reviews from all of you and the atmosphere, but I emailed the restaurant regarding children's menus. I got a wonderful and detailed response from the general manager!!! She told us when to call for reservations and all about the restaurant.............I was impressed!!!

We may also try The Patio on Friday night............depending on what time we leave BWV and arrive at VB!!

Thanks everyone...............

We have gone to VB for the past 6 vacations. We loved Ocean Grill but found that it was more expensive (party of 16) than we had hopes for so we tried Captain Hiram's during the same trip. This was back in 1999. We love the atmosphere of Captain Hiramn's the service is wonderful and the open air concept during the meal was great. This year we actually saw dolphins swimming around the boat that are docked right outside the restaurant. They say if you make your ressies early enough in the day you can watch the fisherman unload their catch for the day. Last year we had a white ibis watch us eat dinner from his perch on a post right out side the window.

We have not been impressed with the restaurants on property.

We have been to Vero numerous times over the past 5 years and go WAY out of our way to ensure at least 2 trips to Captain Hiram's. I truly feel the seafood is fresher, and the patio dinning experience is excellent. Don't want to confuse the matter more for you, but having tried just about all the local restaurants, I really feel Capt Hiram's is not to be missed, as well as fits everything you were looking for... Casual Dinning, Great Food, Kid Freindly, Nice View. etc...
