Who is watching tonight?

Thought we could discuss it over the next 10 weeks! I'm PUMPED! The Pacific theater doesn't seem to have the coverage the European theater received. This show look to be phenomenal!

The pacific theater was very much a race war. Both sides believed they were superior to the other. It's easier to destroy what you consider to be beneath you.

I will need to stay away from this thread as Sky HD do not show this until Easter.
From the promos I am hoping it is as good as Band of Brothers :goodvibes

Not to mention they thought their leader was a god on earth.

HBO really has been doing very well with their productions over the past 10 years. I'll be interested to see how well this series does.

As you know, Phillip and I are definitely in!

Tom Hanks has really made quite a reputation for himself as a producer and we're looking forward to this a LOT. Heck, I'm telling my age, but when i was growing up (60's-70's), I used to watch "Victory at Sea" with my dad in black and white - they showed that as "filler" late at night back when there were only three networks (in case some of you are too young to remember that).

I also cannot tell you how many times Phillip has made me watch "Tora, Tora, Tora" and "Midway.":rotfl:

:rotfl:

I am in too, I would love to have someone to discuss the show with:goodvibes Just added HBO today so we could watch it.

Really looking forward to this as well. Have the PVR set to record the series. DW is not into this kinda show so I'll have to watch it at my leisure rather than during original air. Looks fantastic though, can't wait.

We're in- DH & I. Looking forward to it. :thumbsup2
We'll be recording it at 11pm Sundays and watching on Monday evenings.

Oh- and I remember Victory at Sea!! (and when there were only 3 networks- and when they went off the air every night too!! The National Anthem played and you were done watching TV for the night! :rotfl:)

Just finished watching.....amazing!

I thought they did a nice job of balancing the good with the bad. They didn't waste any time getting right into it like they did in Band of Brothers. I enjoyed the first episode of Band of Brothers, but it got off to a slow start.

I'll have to tell my hubby about this discussion. He is a huge history buff (especially WW 2) and we both have seen Band of Brothers numerous times. I like it....he loves it. We both enjoyed The Pacific tonight. I thought it started a bit slow...but I was distracted at first. I'm impressed already and know I will be learning a lot. Hubby pretty much knows all the facts and we both enjoy the personal human stories, which really make it more real.

It started a tad slow, but Band of Brothers took up the entire first show to go through the training, etc. I enjoyed that they only showed a little of the home front and moved quickly to Guadalcanal.

Interesting side note, spend the day at a local Air Museum (Air zoo in Kalamazoo) they have a room dedicated the Guadalcanal. It was nice to see some of the items and stories before watching the show.

I have been looking forward to this for a while now and I was not disappointed at all. It looks like they have done a great job. Not sure if I'll like it as much as Band of Brothers but I think it will be very good.

I agree, the Jury is still out. Band of Brothers was ground breaking at the time, its hard to replicated what they did with it. So far I'm very impressed though.

We watched the mini bios of the soldiers on on-demand afterwards very informative...loved the show

Very good episode tonight. I have been looking forward to this since it was announced. I love Band of Brothers and put in the dvds every once in a while to watch the episodes again. I look forward to the next episode of Pacific.

So far so good. I wish the episodes were a bit longer. It seemed like it was over pretty quick. Maybe it's a testament to the show's quality. I didn't want it to end.

I thought it went a little fast too. Even though it records for an hour, I bet the actual show was less than 45 mins. Maybe the next one will be a little longer, some of the Band of Brothers episodes were longer than others.

Very good show. I think the running time was around 50 minutes. But it sure is nice not to have to worry about commercials. It makes the show much more enjoyable without interruptions.

Some of the scenes were pretty tense.... Watching the Marines heading to land in those boats looked pretty scary. they kind of looked like sitting ducks out there.
