To keep my sanity, I decided to rant about what Disney, specifically WDW, is worrying me.

I had to book my room for a July trip in December to get what I wanted. I had to book my ADRs in January to get the ones I wanted. It's now May and I need to start making our FPP. WDW has still not posted park hours that should be correct.
AK is showing to close at 5:00? How can they do a nighttime show if they close at 5:00? I get that ROL is broken and a boat did a Titanic, but they should at least figure this out.

The only thing the Dis team seems to love are events that are hard ticket items (except for Jackie of course) which tells me that everything in the normal day is going down hill. Maybe it is a matter of 'they live there and can do it any time they want', but when a show/business built on Disney world has a hard time finding something good I get worried.

Has there been a week that no one sues Disney? It seems to be the cool thing to do lately, but I have a thought on that matter. You always have a choice, if you don't like what WDW offers, don't go. The other Pete has said this 318 times on his show in the past two years. The guy that lost his thumb on a cruise, the people that refused to leave their room even after the police became involved, I'm sure there are others but I lost my train of thought refilling my GlenLivet. Anyway, there should be a test before you are allowed on WDW property, or to breed for that matter.

Disney wheelchairs should be equipped with a bumper in the front. Maybe a cow-catcher like the old trains had. There really is no further explanation needed here, let's just say my wife's feet hurt just as much as your shins do when you walk six abreast and don't get out of my way.

As @DisneyKevin told me, everyone has a right to be wrong. When you are wrong say 'sorry' or 'my bad', don't try to justify your actions. If your family got separated in a queue move to the side to let people pass until they catch up. If your FPP is for 1:55 and it's 1:45 get out of the way so those of us who show up at the right time can get in.
BOG does a great job with this. They won't let you check in 30 minutes before your ADR. Don't tell people to show up at Space Mountain 20 minutes early, there is a one hour window for a reason.

Smokers need to learn. I smoke, and I make the 20 minute trek to find a designated smoking area. You can't hide smell, and if you keep trying to they will take all smoking areas away (see AK DSA).

Drinking around the world is a waste. 11 beers in 12 hours is not a feat. Stop bragging on your tee shirt about what is essentially a frat party. you spent $90 to get in and $9 in 11 bars. Enjoy the magic that is Epcot and stop running into me. Better yet, have a 30 pack delivered to you and stay at your hotel if your only goal is to get wasted.

Strollers are meant for young children who are not able to walk far or as fast as their parents. It is neither cute or safe for a 10 year old to be in a stroller, but look around how often this happens. The same thing happens with kids hopping on with grandma on her AVC and riding on the back or front.

Speaking of that, there should be a training class for AVC's, or a license. I give a wide berth to these motorized gangs that run four wide down Main Street USA because they will run you over. They are needed for some people, but just like driving a car, some people shouldn't be behind the wheel. Consider a wheelchair instead.

Get rid of Starbucks. I want my Main street Bakery back and not that freshly unfrozen muffin they serve. Gastons is a poor replacement. I see these long lines at MK and Epcot and can't fathom why people paid to get into the park to pay for the same coffee they can get at Target.

Congratulations if you read this far. This is probably offensive or too long for most to read, but I feel better typing it out. Feel free to add anything I missed. We still love WDW and enjoy planning and talking about it.

Because much like shopping at Target, a day at Disney is long and I get a little tired sometimes and need a pick-me-up. I'm picky about my coffee, and I know what I like at Starbucks. I don't know if I'm going to like random coffee from wherever, so I'm hesitant to spend the money on it.
The muffin thing I can agree on (not that I've had the Starbucks muffins or the old Main Street Bakery muffins). I don't know why they couldn't serve the old pastries with the new coffee.

I didn't read the rest of your rant, I just saw Starbucks and had to argue :)

first off, I am so offended by ..... the fact you didn't blame any of this on Duffy

I do fully agree that I hate how Disney basically forces you to have your plan fairly set 180 days in advance ... but then can change hours, add / remove parades and shows, etc like 3 weeks before the date. And even worse when it comes to things like Food and Wine Festival or when they had Star Wars Weekends ... like, no details on when events would or wouldn't be until much closer than 180 days in advance

I get what you are saying about the team being most positive about some of the hard ticket events - but those are also new things. I think that is one reason they are trying to be in the parks more and did those "why I love Deluxe" videos - to get back to what they love about the parks. A lot of the videos @Ryno and others post aren't for anything that cost extra (sorcerers of the kingdom or just going around the parks, etc) - so I think those are great to rekindle why Disney sill is great

One other thing I do hate is the reduced hours for the Monorail ... I feel like it ruins the magic a bit when you come for an early ADR or something and get to the TTC and have to get on a bus to get to MK

I agree with you about Starbucks ... especially since they still have regular CMs working there and they kept theming of the MS Bakery, etc. .... if it literally was just a regular old starbucks with regular baristas in regular Starbucks outfits, etc. I would have a much bigger problem with it

All coffee is not the same, so I will agree to some points, but degree. I simply can't see why Target can fit a Starbucks into a a small space but WDW has to take away my beloved bakery. Just put a freaking barista in the corner with a cappuccino maker. They did the same crap in Epcot, but on Main Street they took a great thing and said "eh, this coffee will make us more money".

They did a half way job with Gastons and it makes me irate. I never saw the Bakery empty. Next will be The Plaza becoming a McDonalds and Tony's turned into an Olive Gardens (OK the later might not be the bad). My point is Disney should do Disney. Nescafe needed to be gone, but taking my cinnamon bun is the real reason they had to put metal detectors at the gates.

When they finish Star Wars and Avatar land Bob need to put the MK back to what it was in 1975. It could be completed by 2028.

But Disney has always been about the corporate sponsorships. Every photo store was brought to you by Kodak, etc.

It is a shame that ta the very least they couldn't have just had the exact same cinnamon bun at Gaston's

I sincerely hope you aren't talking about all the podcasters. I go to the parks several times a week on my own time. WDW hasn't gotten old for me yet. I realize how fortunate I am that I can visit the parks whenever I want. I even went to Disneyland for my vacation. The few times I find fault with something I feel I should be able to say that. I think WDW is still a magical place to visit.

Bring back the cinnamon roll, but keep Starbucks. Because for all Disney does well, they somehow cannot get a decent coffee provider. Yes, Joffrey's is a step up, but Starbucks beverages are, and will remain, my choice of beverage when I'm in the parks.

I don't see why I need to purchase something unique because I am in Disney - especially when the unique stuff is subpar.

But yeah, bring back the cinnamon roll. That was delicious.

I will recant on that one since I picture Kathy as my internet mom. The story 'real' Pete told about his last trip to the Magic Kingdom with Bob is an example of how you all can enjoy the parks yet not wait in line for a ride is special. Sitting down with ice cream and watching people in that magical place makes for a great time.

My rant is generalizing what I see. You all have an obvious love for Disney. I just can't help to see how much more critical people become of the World when it is a weekly trip over a yearly or once in a lifetime trip. If you live in Pisa the tower gets boring, and if you are from San Fan the Golden Gate bridge only may mean a nightmare commute.

Walt Disney had corporate sponsors in his park since opening day.

Edy's Ice Cream sponsors the ice cream shop at the end of Main Street.

This is not new.
I am not arguing this point, but Kevin , you are in a tropical paradise and still reading these boards. Live life and bring me back a few pounds of kona whole bean please.

I remember what Walt said...

“I don’t want the public to see the world they live in while they’re in the park. I want them to feel they’re in another world.”

-Walt Disney

to be fair, with all the cigarettes Walt smoked there is no way he'd be able to taste the difference between good coffee and swill

Oh, the corporate sponsorship is not what I object to. I objected to literally tearing down the iconic "Main Street Bakery" and replacing it with a Starbucks. It would have been nice to have kept the bakery, with a little plaque outside that stated "Sponsored by Starbucks". Big difference.

In the history off Walt Disney World, the building housing the MSB has been many things.

The MSB is is not that old, so I don't agree with your use of the word iconic.

As I am on vacation, I don't have the inclination to find the exact quote, but Walt also mentioned that his park would be ever changing.

Starbucks is just a recent corporate sponsorship and the Walt quote about not seeing the outside world doesn't really apply as Walt, at one time, had a store on Main Street in DL that sold brassieres.

My personal gripe is not with late published hours per se but with changing Extra Magic Hours. There was a time when I would plan an 8:05am pre-park opening breakfast so I could have the park to myself. The last time I did this Disney changed the EMH scheduled. Instead of a near empty park, I wasted the first hour in a sit-down meal.

Well, regardless of whether or not there is a corporate sponsorship, iconic places on main street, or whether or not the park is ever changing, I just really dislike too much of the outside world creeping into the World. I go to Disney World to be immersed in the fantasy of an old-fashioned main street, or an adventureland or tomorrowland that i can't get anywhere in my town. That's really my point. I just tend to cringe when I see the word Starbucks or Sun Glass Hut while I'm at the Magic Kingdom. It sadly brings me back into reality while I'm on vacation and enjoying "getting away from it all".

Y'all realise that you don't HAVE to book everything 180 days in advance?
You don't HAVE to eat at BOG to have a great vacation.
Also, Disney could change the ADR window to 30 or 60 days and you'd have the same issue getting an ADR, it's not the booking window, it's the crowds.

Kathy, I find that you're the perfect mix of Jackie's constant enthusiasm for Disney and the honest nature of Kevin and Pete. You love Disney and sing its praises when they're due, but you're also willing to call a spade a spade and when Disney mess up, up say so.
You're the original pixie duster on the show in my eyes!

Fully aware - and actually I have never been able to score a diner ADR for BOG and I've still had great vacations. I just find it annoying that they promote making ADRs that far in advance but then don't have their schedule set

It's like the doctor that charges you if you are late for your appointment but then there is nothing returned to you when they are running late and you are waiting for hours in the waiting room
