The Osborne Family Spectacle Of Lights

This morning on Youtube I got to see The Osborne Family Spectacle Of Lights and I thought it was really amazing and I wonder why Disney got rid of this holiday show? When I saw the video it reminded me of those GE Christmas light show sets that you plug into your Christmas stuff at home and I noticed that different holiday music plays throughout the show ranging from Trans-Siberian Orchestra to Barbra Streisand. My mother was enchanted by this show and wondered how they did it. How did The Osborne Family Spectacle Of Lights get started and why did Disney do away with it?

When I saw this show on Youtube I thought it looked fantastic and really neat. I did hear how this show was created was that the Osborne Family actually donated the lights because the lights were too bright for their neighbors and they sent the lights to Walt Disney World to use for Christmas shows and The Osborne Family Spectacle Of Lights was born

It was AMAZING but they needed to space to build Batuu. I still miss the Osborne lights.

This was a spectacular show - I wish it was still there so my DD18 could see it in a few weeks. She did see it in 2012, but she only remembers bits and pieces of it.

The Osborne lights was our #1 reason for visiting WDW.

Now we mostly relax by the pool during the day and drink at night.

It was the most incredible thing. I cried when they got rid of it. We have the fondest memories of it. Such a shame it’s no longer.

My son’s favorite memory is his older cousin putting him on his shoulders and walking through the Osborne Lights. We enjoyed them from 2001-2005. Not sure when they left but we miss them.

We took our kids to WDW in early Dec a few years ago specifically to see the Osborne lights. We had no idea it was the last year. Nothing else like it.

I actually saw the lights when they were still on the Osbornes’ house(s). What a traffic mess! It was kind of strange to have the lights go up at DHS years later.

The area was about to be bulldozed. Could they have moved it somewhere - probably. BUT why keep paying a family for the use of their name? Made sense to end the relationship, send them back their old lights sitting in storage and cancel the whole thing. My hope is SOME DAY they will find the appropriate place to recreate a light show with a new name that will make it worth going again at the holidays.

My last holiday trip was specifically to go and say goodbye to them. I sat in that area for hours taking it all in. We were there the first year and watch it grow and grow to be truly "spectacular."

Honestly, JMHO.. the only thing right now that comes close to the Osborne Lights for us (and I love CP!!) is SeaWorld's Christmas celebration !! Its amazing !! And I am a huge Disney supporter since my first trip in 1997, but they should take some pointers !
The shows are amazing-- The "Sea of Trees"is so beautiful-- and the music that fills the park--- incredible --- Every time we go, my kids say "why cant Disney do this!?"
