Day One - the one with all the travel

Every day of the holiday we would change our mind about what we could call the trip report - it was a regular topic of conversation at our meals - how sad!

We don’t actually reach Disney on this day, but I thought I would add it on our report, as I know some of you like the full story in all the gory detail. :goodvibes

Our first day was also the first day of the Premiership season. Son was not coming on holiday with us so he decided to go to Portsmouth to see his beloved team - his first away trip without his Dad with him. I think he was as excited as we were to be going to Disney! :yay:

Husband took him to the train station and then we got busy packing - I had left it until the last minute as normal. Dtr decided to bring every one of her Disney plushes with her. We had room in the car so we went along with this.

These photos were taken only about 2 miles from home, but the holiday had started as far as I was concerned so it was time to get snapping.

There was a traffic jam on the M25 which meant we were a bit pressed for time, but the great thing about Eurotunnel is there is no worry if you miss your crossing as they slot you in the next available one.

We made good time though and got there with minutes to spare for our check in. We were waved straight through and actually went on the one before our planned departure.

Dtr stuck on the headlight adjusters during the journey - we were all set for French driving.

There was not a cloud in the sky and the gauge showed the outside temperature was high. Thank goodness for air conditioning.

The journey went smoothly with just one stop for coffee for Husband. He hurried back to the car as it was just too hot outside.

At about 8.30 pm we pulled up to the Etap - I did jokingly point out that we were only 9 miles from Disney and the Park was open for another two and half hours. Dtr’s eyes lit up and she said “shall we?” but the answer was no.

Our room was perfectly adequate for an overnight stay and very good value at only €39 for the night. Of course Husband put the telly on as soon as we got in there and what should be on but highlights of the Beloved Team playing (and beating) Portsmouth. Even more amazing he spotted Son in the crowd! Next came the French version of Who Wants to Be a Millionaire? I really laughed when Husband (who speaks less than schoolboy French) not only worked out the question being asked but got the answer right as well. He could have won €32,000 .

We got comfy and were all asleep within a short time.

A great start, really looking forward to reading more of your trip report, love all the cuddlies aboard!
