Anybody watching this NetFlix series? My wife and I are enjoying it even though we had never heard of the manga it was based on. Give it a try

My kids were a fan of both the previous animated series and the books when they were younger, so I watched it and was pleasantly surprised. I would recommend it even if you’re not a manga / anime fan.

Okay, so I am a massive One Piece fan. I'm caught up on the manga and anime. Watched all 15 movies and even visited the theme park in Japan. I thought the idea of a live action series was stupid but was willing to check it out to give it a chance.

While I think it's overall okay (not amazing or terrible), it's better than the majority of live action American adaptations of anime. You can tell the creators actually care about the source material which is the bare minimum these days. I have some issues with how certain characters are portrayed (biggest one is Nami) but I was impressed that this wasn't a complete dumpster fire. The manga is 10000% superior to this adaptation though like it's not even close.

my 2 adult kids are big fans so they joined together to watch it over a couple of days. their reaction was posititive. they did have an issue with some aspect of the story line being tweaked for the series but they aknowledged that they figured some things would have to be changed for this live series. now that they've finished watching they are re-watching the anime (out of my earshot thankfully b/c i can't stand the-for lack of a better term-yelling style voice acting in it).

they are happy that the new series has been renewed for a season 2.

That was almost verbatim the assessment of my 12 year old.
