The old tiki room

"We have found that in the theme parks, guests want the classics like Pirates and 'small world' but expect and demand something new. We have to be careful of messing with classics. An example of failure was the Tiki Room Under New Management. It was a failure because of the attitude. It doesn’t match being part of the Happiest Place on Earth and guests instantly responded to that fact."

ITA with what Fitzgerald is saying about the "new" tiki room. The attitude - the tension and fighting - is a big turn-off. DH is a big Gilbert Gottfried (sp?) fan, but even he found the show obnoxious.
I don't have a problem with them updating attractions. I love the HM changes and I actually like the updates they did to PotC. With Snow White's Scary Adventure, I knew, even as a kid, that the rider was supposed to be experiencing things as SW did and that was why she wasn't in the ride, but I don't think the changes are aggregious. This refurb, though, is craptacular.

That's a great point! Their successful refurbs have tended to be of the "the same, only moreso" type. Haunted Mansion was an excellent refurb, IMO. PotC and SWSA were logical changes, but in the end didn't make the rides all that much better (or even different).

If they could have done a HM style refurb of Enchanted Tiki Room, with updated AA and other show elements, but without changing the basic show, that would have been great.

1) Yes, I do miss the "old" Tiki Room.
2) It is not that I dislike the new one.
3) I just like the "yelling" and "shouting" of the new characters.

I miss the old one too! A couple of years ago I took my daughter for the first time and was very disappointed that they changed it. We spend most of the drive from Texas to WDW listening to the Tiki song and she could not wait to see the show. To my shock we found out that the show has changed. So this December we are going to Disneyland and we can't wait to see the Tiki room.

Yep....clearly when someone at the top is willing to go on record of saying that, then the feeling of disdain for the new show is not confined to "just a few".

Yeah, I can fully understand how disappointed your daughter must have felt...

Princess Fontaine prefers the Old Tiki Room because it reminds her of her many childhood visits. I like them both. ;)

The new Tiki Room is unbearable. Thankfully I can still go visit the unmolested original at DL. I have been to the Tiki Room at Disneyland 3 times this year and all 3 times the building has been pretty full, not packed, but maybe 60-75% capacity. I could only endure the WDW version once and I would not say that it was well attended. At about 3:00 in the afternoon there were 8 people in the building including the cast member. The attraction in it's new form just doesn't work, it's like remaking a classic movie and giving the leading roles to Jim Carry and Eddie Murphy.

At least they haven't added Stitch, yet.....

We didn't visit the Tiki Room when we went in May due to reading how bad it was on the forums.

Just got back from Disneyland with my family. My daughter finally got to see the original tiki room. It was one of the highlights of the trip. I hope they bring back the old tiki room to WDW.

I loved the old Tiki Room. It is a fond memory of childhood. I wish they would bring it back. I dont hate the new one, but it is just not as good as the old one.

LOVED the old tiki room, HATE the new one! Even with Gilbert voicing Yago, I still hate it.

Gilbert is one of those "love 'em or hate em'" kind of comics. For me, the man could say one word - any word - and it would draw laughter :rotfl2: (saw his stand-up a few months ago - great and yes, very non-Disney in theme, to say the least :scared1: ). Anyhow, I agree, the new one is bad!
