The old tiki room

I guess I'm definitely in the minority, but I LOVE the new version of The Tiki Room - it's a must see every trip although I know exactly where to look for different things that are coming up. Last trip in April I took friends in there that hadn't see it since the original one & they loved it!! Guess I just like the contemporary feel of it & the kids know the songs & Iago & Zazoo. I love watching the little ones once they figure out who's talking, etc. Oh well.................:confused3

Does anyone else miss the old tiki room? it was so much better than the new one.

The first time I saw the new version I had no idea it had changed and I go in with my 2 and 3 year old kids and it ruined my day. I emailed Disney when I got home to let them know how dissapointed I was. For me they really ruined something that I think a lot of young children really enjoyed.

We visit the "old" Tiki Room every time we go to Disneyland. And it is generally a full house when we see it. No huge lines, but it is definitely NOT empty. And it is as good as it ever was!!!

We skip the newer version when we go to WDW. It's not relaxing watching the birds argue... and they messed with the song we love.

So, never fear, just go down to the original (DL) if you want to see the original Tiki Room. (And Mr. Toad, too, BTW).

I can't say it was my favorite attraction, but there's something to be said for a show where I can still remember the "In the Tiki Tiki Room" song after having seen the show only once 12 years ago.

if they just would have left the original song intact.. I could take the rest of it... but when the original song screetches to a halt, I just loose it and feel disappointed... but then at the Fantasmic! stadium they play that great up beat version of the song... that is a plus.

I like both versions. But as I've posted before:

When I visit DL, I see the Tiki Room show at least once a day.

When I visit WDW, I see the Tiki Room show at least once.

So I'll admit I like the original better.

But hey, consider WDW lucky. There, the tiki birds are only joined by Iago and Zazu. Beginning this July at Tokyo Disneyland, they're going to be joined by Stitch! :scared1:

I loved, loved, loved the old tiki room (just ask my dh!). Iago is so annoying! I had sworn it off but we will have to go this year since it is my younger son's first trip and I just can't wait to see his face when all the birds start singing (and the flowers bloom :thumbsup2 ).

DW and I much prefer the original version. Fortunately, we are DLR ap holders so we get to see the original regularly.

But can the animatronic system operate both versions (and maybe a third version in the future), say on an alternating hour basis or AM/PM changeover? Someone would just have to press a button and come out and change the sign to "The Old Management Is Back".

It could.

The only major physical difference (you could easily ignore the new "bird houses" at the top of the theater, from which emerge the new hosts) is that in UNM, "Polynesia," the AA goddess, took the place of the water feature with the high-rising water jet... in the "dead-center" of the room.

One of my most favorite memories from WDW as a kid was the old Tiki Room. I was disappointed with the new version. We still go in to see it, but only when there is no wait.

My memories go back to 1984 when I first went to WDW with my wife and kids. We went to the Tiki Birds and even though the music was outdated even then, we found it to be a warm, interesting and enjoyable family type show.

As old as, "let's all sing like the birdies sing", it was definitely a highlight of the show.

I went to Disneyland, my one and only time, during the 50th Anniversary. I went to the "old" version 4 times in two days. I realize that DL attracts more "cult" like participation then WDW, but, the place was packed every time I went. People linked arms, swayed with the music and generally had a great time.

I don't absolutely hate the new version, but, I think it is both too loud and and too intense for all members of the family. I've seen more little kids having to be brought out because it scared them. I've overheard young mothers talking about how disappointed they were because their memories of "Tiki" was nice and they wanted their children to share that with them. That didn't happen because they had to take their scared kids out.

Personally if it were just a little less loud, I think I could enjoy it more. It literally, physically hurts my ears to sit and listen to it.

I really miss the old show! I took my DS3 and hubby to Disney for the first time last year. I told him as a kid I loved the Tiki room but it had been changed, well when we left the show my hubby said well maybe the old show was better because that sucked! He did not think the show had a good flow to it.

Yes. We go often, usually in the middle of the week, and every time we see the show, there is a full house, singing along with the birds and enjoying every minute of it. The 40th Anniversary (yes 40+ years now!) refurb made the room awesome once more and as often happens-- everything old is new again. The DL Tiki Room is a prime example of why you don't mess with a classic-- you just take care of it.

I never got to experience the "old tiki room" attraction -- I wish I had. I know after talking to Disney vets, that this attraction is a "much-loved" one, but I just didn't get it. I'm glad so many people like it, but for me, it ranked right up there with Stitch as our 'least-favorite' Disney moment. Sorry to all those who love the Tiki -- it just wasn't for me. :confused3

The Tiki Room inhabitants were playing to fewer and fewer folks in the seats below. And many times I was witness to a "mass exodus" of folks just getting up mid-show and finding the exit.

I was one of them heading for the exit, way back when. Although, there are some very passionate fans of the original who harken for the things they experienced in their yout' (did you say yout'?).

Anyway, can you imagine if they revamped the Country Bear show?? What an uproar we'd have. But that revamp is a long time coming!!! It's only good for a nice cool nap.

I loved the old one for the history behind it and the music. My good friend came to visit in November with her 17 month old and was excited to see Tiki Birds because she grew up in Florida and had been seeing it since she was 1. Needless to say they were a little annoyed it was so loud and obnoxious (I warned them.)

I miss the old version too, last time I was there I skipped it completely. I probably would this time to but the is DH fist trip in about 15yrs. He remembers going as a child and wants to see it again. I think if they would at least finish the original tiki tiki song i would be happier.
