This is my first time traveling with a laptop, do y'all carry on or pack it in your checked bag?

I hope you have a great trip!

I always carry on my laptop - it can be somewhat of a pain at security to unpack it from the bag but I don't trust checked bags for something like that.

Plus, I use it on the plane and in the airport - watch movies, do work, check email, etc.

I always try to clean everything before I leave. coming home to a messy house or laundry hiding is so depressing.

Laura- I hope that your mini Christmas was wonderful. Actually I know that it was, and I bet the kids were so happy. Enjoy your time with Greg and and your special family.

We have been enjoying leftovers but today is a special treat. Chris is home for a few days, this is the first Thanksgiving in over 5 years he is here, so Gail invited us all over for dinner. It is a quick thing, Chris has a new GF who lives downstate so he did not get in until late Thursday and was not sure what his (read that her) plans were. Gail is making ham and I'm not sure what else, and I am bringing a sweet potato casserole, pineapple bake and I made gravy. My niece was slurping it Thursday night with rolls so I wanted to make more

Thanks to everyone for the vacation pixie dust. It's so nice to have friends.

Rest assured I will have a drink for each of you who asked. (And some who didn't). Lauren, I wouldn't miss trying one of the drinks in France. I am also looking forward to another of the strawberry drinks they make at Narcoossee's. It was my favorite last year.

Wendie, be sure to let me know what route you plan on taking to Wilmington. I live in coastal SC, so I may be able to help with hotels/restaurants on the way.

Janice, we have room if you decide to make a trip south. But let me tell you, you'd never be the same after a trip with my family.

I'm looking forward to meeting Kathy in person on Wednesday. I'm going to try very hard to remember my camera but once I have the pic, someone with more computer knowledge than me will have to tell me how to post it.

Sorry I could respond to everyone, but I'm running around the house trying to get all the last minute stuff done. We are driving and leaving around 7:30. I told my mother I wanted to leave at 7:00 (she's always late).

I don't think I'll be able to check back until after vacation, so take care everyone. Talk to all of you in about a week.

Today we are going out to eat with my ILs after church. I had planned on making RR's Chicken and Dumpling Soup, but I probably won't since we are having a big lunch.

ETA: Ok, more on the Romance of the Smitten Kittens. We called him yesterday to chat and get some dirt on what was going on. He didn't say much, just that they were having a great time (duh, we knew that, hee hee!). He called me a little while later asking if I knew Robin's favorite color. I didn't. He was wanting to take her a flower on last night's date. Get a load of what I told him to do

They were meeting on the other side of Chattanooga, about 45 minutes from us, 10 for her. He has to pass a Fresh Market on the way. I told him to stop there to get her rose. I told him a red rose was a wee bit clicheed (sp?) and to get her a variegated rose instead (my personal favorite). While you are there, head over to the homemade candy and get her some truffles, they come in a little pack of 3. Scott gave me those on our 1st Valentine's Day together. He got HUGE points for that then and I have never forgotten it. Kevin thought it was a great idea

Kevin will be going out to eat with us today so I'm hoping to get some details They were going to Rock City to see the Enchanted Garden of Lights, or whatever it's called. It's WAY on top of a mountain, and they were meeting after it got dark last night. Down here in the valley, it was about 30-something degrees. It had to be freezing up there. I told him to make sure she was warm

Robin had Photopass take a pic of us at MGM. She e-mailed me the pic yesterday. My jaw dropped and I looked at Scott and said, "They look like more of an item than we do and they hadn't even gone out yet!!!!!!!!"

What do you think?

Oh, one more thing. We took the boat from the Y&B Club to MGM. We got separated. While on the ride, I took notice of something and busted out laughing and grabbed the camera. Here's the picture:

I showed it to Scott, still laughing, and said, "Look Pooh!! It's Kevin, his wife, and his MIL!!"

If they ever get married, I am giving them that picture in a picture frame with that heading above it. I want the credit for knowing there was some kind of spark there

Yeah- they really do look like they are into each other. That's so sweet... remember those "courting days"??? Seems like a million years ago around here. Now it's "did you feed the dog??" "No, why didn't YOU feed the dog??"

I think I might go shopping by myself today. Dh has been away a lot and I could use a break. Maybe I'll even go out to lunch by myself. I got a little birthday money (even though my birthday isn't until December 3rd... the big 40 Forty is the new 30 right????

Oh yeah- what's for dinner .... I saw a recipe for a cranberry chutney stuffed pork roast in Prevention Magazine that I might make tonight.... It looked really tasty. The magazine is in ds's room and he's still asleep- I don't dare to go get it in fear of waking up the sleeping beast. We are indeed tired of turkey. At least I am and I'm the one who does the cooking.

Today is ironing day for our trip, that way I can get that part of packing done with. I have to gather all the shoes we are bringing as well, most are sandals so they can be packed now as well, since I do not think we will be wearing any around here for awhile, it is 24* out right now!
Last night I cut out Mickey heads from home depot. red, black, white, and of course LIME green! I just need to laminate some today, and write on the ones that are going on our window.

WFD--I am making tuna casserole with French's onions on them...damn that crispy onion thread,

Thank you so much! She is doing very well, a women she used to babysit years and years ago,(my gram was the "Auntie Kay" of the village), lives nearby and is a retired trauma nurse, went over yesterday to change her bandage, and take a look at it, she said it looks amazing and is healing superb! She will see her DR tomorrow, so I am anxious to hear what he says about it. I am sure he will be shocked by it all, they all love her there! Her pastor and half the congragation stopped in today to visit her.

How was your Thanksgiving? Where you able to get your bow restrung? Please know that my heart is with you and your family, with this sad time coming up.

Lindsay - I must ask. What timezone are you in? According to my clock, you post freakin' early everyday! This morning it was 4 something. Tell me we have a 4 hour time difference between us

Tonight is loaded baked potato soup in the crockpot. I'm using up stuff I have on hand from Thanksgiving and it looked easy enough. We'll also eat more leftovers along with it.

It is SO cold here. A week ago, I was in shorts. A cold front came through on Wed and by Thurs, it was SNOWING! All weekend it's been in the low 40s and rainy. We've burned through a stack of wood already and are now out so my toes are very cold. I even had to put a sweater on Lucy, who was groomed last week and very cold! She looked cute, though

Soup sounds like a nice thing to have on a day like this.

The soup last night was good, but I think it would have been better without the meatballs. Giada knew what she was doing and I shouldn't have messed with the recipe, except for leaving out the red pepper flakes. Next time I'll make it with the beans.

Easy dinner tonight - bbq pork chops, tater tots, and peas.

Dinner last night was so good, but better still because we got to see Chris. My bunch was there and three of Gail's (Timmy is still in Iraq), so it was a good night.
My nephew Timmy is safe, but he he is in a war zone, a fact Chris let slip last night, which is so against his sister's rules. "You know you are not supposed to tell Mom and Auntie anything that might make them cry!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!" This poor Marine served 3 tours in Iraq, is certainly brave and well trained....but no match for his 5'2" sister
Anyway, I know that you all keep the WFD service families in your prayers, but please keep Timmy as well. I believe that my Mom is his Guardian Angel, but prayers are so powerful.

I made turkey vegetable soup tonight. We don't get sick of leftovers from Thanksgiving in my home, but they are almost gone. The kids all went to a Chinese restaurant for lunch so a light supper is good.

Marisa tried to pick up ground turkey from Costco for stuffed pepper tomorrow but there was none. I think I am going to have to pay full price

Hi Everyone,

Our little Mini-Christmas went very well, although the kids reactions were more ones of confusion rather than surprise. They truly had no idea what was happening. Once they learned they could open the presents under the tree, they were much more excited. I guess they thought they were going to have to look at them for a month.

Dinner last night was three courses: Bay scallops over arugula topped with a beurre blanc to start, homemade cream of chestnut/mushroom soup as a second course, then filet mignon in a red wine/butter sauce, potatoes gratin and sauteed brussels sprouts in garlic butter. Do you sense a theme?? Lots of butter! It was good, but too much food for me.

Today we had to go to my ILs. I think MIL needs to apologize to the cow because once again, she attempted to make a standing rib roast, and yet again, completely overcooked it...not a trace of pink to be found. She served it with tasteless gravy, lumpy mashed potatoes and brown asparagus. Greg did ask her if I could reprise the scallop appetizer from yesterday, so that was good. I had a piece of pumpkin cheesecake when I got home. I may even eat a turkey sandwich later with the Patriots game.

I am so glad you had a nice time with Chris. I will certainly keep Timmy in my prayers, as I will be saying more of them with Greg heading over there really soon. Also, I keep Greg in a regular supply of cookies and goodies. I would be happy to send packages to Timmy too -- at least a batch of all the Christmas cookies I make -- if you want to PM me his address. I completely understand if you can't/don't want to do that though. I'm not sure how sensitive an area he is in.

Good news! Greg gets to stay an extra two days! He leaves Wednesday now instead of tomorrow. That means we only have one day without him and then we leave for Disney on Friday.

Hi, everyone! Sorry I haven't posting since Thanksgiving night. We've been on the go since then.

Our Thanksgiving was really nice...once Alan got home from work. We had a fabulous dinner, and spent some time afterwards mapping out a plan for Black Friday. We got the kids in bed just after 10, and I was out quite soon after that.

I got up at 3:00 Friday morning, and dragged Alan out of bed at 3:30. We threw on some clothes, picked up BIL and SIL and headed out to shop. We got most of the stuff we wanted at Walmart, Sears, Target, Radio Shack and CAL Ranch. It was a very good morning. Once we were done, we all went out to breakfast where I treated myself to biscuits and gravy. Yummo!!!

We got home, hid all the surprises, and I threw myself into the shower. While I was showering, Alan got in touch with his Best Friend from high school. He was in a neighboring town, and the guys decided we all had to get together. We tossed our kids in the car, and headed out. It took us about an hour to get there, but once we were there, there was a lot of playing, visiting, etc. to be done. "Grandma" and "Grandpa" had raked all the leaves into a pile, and we had 8 kids jumping, throwing, digging, and just generally wearing themselves out. Peggy, "Grandma" and I got all the leftovers out and made plates for everyone. We fed the kids, and then Bryce and Alan took the 2 little boys (Jacob and Jameson) skeet shooting. It was so fun for the guys to be together. The ladies cleaned up, and then spent the afternoon watching Evan Almighty. Really good movie! At about 7:00 that night, we got our kids back in the car and started the hour drive home. I literally crashed into bed, and don't know what the rest of my family did.

On Saturday, we were invited to our neighbors house to watch football. It was the biggest game of the year for Utah. 2 rival schools faced off. I made clam dip, french onion dip, and buffalo chicken dip. Carol made turkey sandwiches for everyone, and we ate and watched football. I have to say, I'm not much for football, but this was one of the funnest days I've ever had! Our team won, which made it even better. Once the game was over, we played Apples to Apples, which had us all rolling on the floor! What a great day!

I've spent today practicing my violin for the funeral on Wednesday. My bow is being restrung, so to practice, I'm using Katie's 3/4 size bow. It will work in a pinch.

Alan is baking some potatoes, and I'm making chili for dinner. We'll also pull out the leftovers and just piece around.

Oh, before I forget, my neighbor does something that I've never seen before and I thought I'd pass it along to y'all. If she has leftover stuffing, she slices it and fries it in a frying pan. Then she makes sandwiches with bread, cream cheese, cranberry sauce, fried stuffing, turkey and lettuce. It was so yummy!!! I think I'm hooked!!!

Glynis I've never heard of fried stuffing but fried anything is ok with me. I usually eat my leftover dressing/stuffiing cold for breakfast . Oh the strange things we do.

That reminds me of my grandma, she would make cracklings in the biscuits when she made chicken soup. I found a recipe for it not long ago.

We are having honey bbq wings, rice and salad for dinner.
