The Official VILLAS at DISNEYLAND HOTEL (Discovery Tower) Owners and Fans Info Thread

Would you say the service/cast member attentiveness at vdh is on par with vgc?
The lobby in anything like VGC so it’s different, the bell desk is over at DLH tower which I used to hate. But when calling for things it was great.

Also if it wasnt for ToT would you say you would be equally as excited to stay at vdh and vgc?
I will be perfectly honest that for now I might be happier at VDH due to the bathroom situation. Happy to pay TOT for a nice bathroom. I hate that VGC has old bathrooms and apparently will continue to have them. It’s a huge huge let down for me as a VGC lover. I used to talk so much crap about VDH distance to the park but I have since accepted it and the DCA entrance by Pixar really helped.

The best ability is availability.

Haha. It’s actually right by VGC. But you go the back way from VDH so it's a very short walk. The entrance puts you over by Corn Dog Castle/Goofys Coaster

Never really thought about it until I saw this as both are excellent but now that I do.... the CMs are DH are a bit more fun and they tend to over deliver on requests/help more than those at the GC. Had great experiences for the most part at both but whenever I ask for anything at VDH I usually get much more than I asked for. The pool deck vibe is also a bit more fun at VDH vs VGC. I love both :)

The plus side is there is plenty of time/spaces at DLH/VDH where you can relax and have some down time where the GC lobby is like a madhouse of people 99% of the time from 7am to 11pm+....

I was impressed at vgc when I asked where I could get water in the morning and they brought me this, free of charge

Yes. Another at first I strongly disliked it. But having to wait for a room once I now appreciate it. We were able to sit and relax and wait just us at VDH.

I miss characters in lobby that helped me made me fall in love with Disney properties. I’m not sure if they do that anymore.

I really enjoy lingering in the Grand Cal lobby after we close out Disneyland at midnight. It’s so peaceful. The rest of the time…. too many non-guests loitering.

At the Disneyland Hotel, you’ll catch me at Trader Sam’s, Palm Breeze, or that little outdoor area off the Villas lobby (with a beverage from Palm Breeze). It’s a vibe.

One of my biggest head scratch moments at the Grand Cal was when they decided to add tables to eat at along the path that’s straight ahead where you enter from the DVC wing into the lobby (adjacent to the kids tv and mini chairs). There was a huge mess of food from families feeding their kiddos there every time we walked through the lobby during that trip. The CMs did their best to stay on top of it but it definitely made the vibe a bit off. Thankfully that didn’t last too long.

My mom was also given a hard time resisting her eyes at the GC lobby after a long drive over from Nevada. Never had anything similar at DH. Way more relaxed.

I feel like this is one of the downsides to the location and lobby design of GCH/VGC. Everything is so centralized and concentrated that it makes getting around and going into the parks so much easier, but it also makes it so much easier for crowds to congregate there as well. I don't like to spend too much time in hotel lobbies myself, so this isn't a huge issue for me.

DLH/VDH as a whole feels so much more decentralized with the four distinct towers that it just makes everything feel more spread out. It's also kind of out of the way so it's naturally not going to draw as much of a crowd. I do agree that the "vibe" on ground level is much more relaxed vs GCH/VGC and feels more like secluded resort in that sense.

I just wish they wouldn’t have ruined the circle flow of the whole hotel though. Cutting the path off at Goofy’s makes getting around more of a PITA.

Completely agree on this! I am always happy when the pools are open so I can cut across via the pool gate and through Palm Breeze to get to or from my room instead of looping around.
