****DISCLAIMER****
This thread may contain spoilers. I have covered the spoilers in white text. Also, moderators (phamton, dagny, others), could you please guide anyone looking for Simpsons reviews to this thread. that way we can have an offiicial thread and less clutter on the boards. Thanks!
Now for My Review:
My ticket for entry was for the 7p-8p hour. I deliberately wore my BTTF shirt--yes, I got some flak, but I had to Represent. I approached the wall and there was already a line of TMs waiting to get in. A few guests were like "What's going on? Can we ride?" They were told by Krustyland TMs that it's for employees only tonight (tomorrow also).
When it was time, our tickets & IDs were checked. The queue looked amazing. The pics posted online give a good idea, but seeing everything with your own eyes is just amazing. The detail is superb, the carnival theme is very strong, it's just very well done. The queue video is funny, mixing original elements with clips from old shows.
There are BTTF references in the queue vid (see the spoilers section for more) as well as on Level 1, the holding room video, and on-ride. Again, check the spoilers section for those.
I went to Level 2 first. I would ride on Level 1 & Level 3, just to do so. The rooms with the "load lanes" are very thoroughly decorated & have a lot of funny sequences. There is even a very funny Mandatory Preshow. The Mandatory Preshow sets up the whole ride. If you don't watch it, the ride will not make ANY sense. From the lanes, you go into your room ala BTTF. The video in the holding room tells more of the story, is very funny, and has the safety video.
After I LMAO'd at the holding room vid, the doors open and you see the RV. Once you're loaded, there is audio & video, then the ride starts. The ride itself is VERY SMOOTH. The animation is very well done, there are several effects to make it immersive, and there are lots of funny sequences.
After the ride, I had a chance to provide a testimonial, which I did. A few others did testimonials before me, but the girl doing the interviewing said I did an excellent/perfect job. Whoo hoo!
There was no line, so I rode again, this time on level 1. Then I watched the ENTIRE 30 min queue video, then rode on level 3. It's an excellent ride and it's actually...I can't say it.
I have to say it. I'll put it here. Highlight to read: It's better than BTTF, IMO.
Now for some heavy-duty spoilers. Read at your own risk. Highlight to view.
Queue & queue video: When the wall comes down, you'll enter Krusty's mouth on his tongue. Eeww, clown tongue. In the vid, there is a HUGE & hilarious BTTF reference. It involves Prof. Frink using a DeLorean to go back in time to stop the IFT from closing. He creates a time paradox (of course) which then makes it so the IFT has to close. It's very well done and Christopher Lloyd does the Doc Brown voice!
Queue vid/Mandatory preshow/story of the ride: Krusyland is opening its newest attraction, which is a mega coaster. Sideshow Bob has escaped from prison and is on the loose, possibly in Krustyland. He has vowed vengance against the Simpson family, whom have thwarted him many times before. Since "you" are getting to ride with the Simpsons, Bob plans to kill you as well.
Rooms with rows:There are 4 screens, 3 on level 3. One has Hans Moleman at the info booth. One is Willy as the milk can game attendant. Patty & Selma run Lost & Found. Apu runs the concession stand. There is no info booth on level 3. Each screen has a short story/snippet before going on to the next one. When the screens/characters are idle, they're still doing some sort of motion. There's so much going on, it's hard to keep track of where to look. The screens which show the Mandatory Preshow also have fake ads appear on them.
Holding Rooms: The holding rooms have their number VERY VISIBLY on the door. In each holding room is at least one funhouse mirror. During the safety video section, there are references to the BTTF safety video, such as "keep your hands away from the doors."
Garage/ride: The cars have a very creepy looking Krusty face on their back. There is a video screen above the car where sideshow bob appears. During the ride, there are jabs at Disney (POTC mockery), Sea World (Shamu mockery), and Universal (there's a funny sign). There are even a couple of disturbing parts. There are light, water, fog, and scent effects. They're really good.
My favorite part of the ride itself is probably the "upside down" spin. You don't actually go upside down, but the sensation is there. That will make sense when you ride it.
That's my review, I hope you enjoyed it!
