The Official POLYNESIAN VILLAS & BUNGALOWS Owners and Fans info thread

I’ve been trying to talk myself into buying 150 points direct at Polynesian as non-restricted direct points. I even stayed in one of the older studios to test it out (not totally in love but it was good overall) and toured the new Island Tower (which was very nice, but you don’t have 3 sleeping surfaces in the studio there).

I’ve considered this primarily as a 2 bedroom option during January or occasionally as a studio, but digging deeper into this, it appears Island Tower contains no 2 bedroom resort view non-lock off rooms. This seems very surprising to me! I am not willing to spend more points on the view, and I wonder how tough the lock-offs will be for owners to access once more points are declared. The studios are popular at Island Tower, so I have to think if the studios get tied up with studio reservations, we will have fewer 2 bedrooms available to book.

I hope they declare more points soon and there is some more clarity around availability soon.

If you don’t love Poly, direct points may not be worth it, although a Poly contract will likely retain more long-term value than most of the other options due to lower maintenance fees and no resale restrictions on the O14 (assuming you think you may sell one day).

I can’t speak to the studio room concerns, but rest assured DVD is declaring more inventory for PIT on a regular basis as more points are purchased. Someone can correct me if I’m wrong, but there are a couple dedicated two bedroom villas now (which wasn’t the case a few months ago). DVCNews has the scoop there. Edit: I just realized you meant Resort View specific. So yeah, if that’s a concern then it might be a hard sell. 🙃

Yes. I can see staying there again. But I didn’t get that “wow” feeling, you know? I liked it. But it wasn’t love! I was sort of sad I didn’t love it like I hoped I would. And I think you are right: direct points may not be in my future, and I guess that’s ok.

I think my best bet is probably keeping my current points, and using the Polynesian’s older resort view studios again when I want a studio option that sleeps 3 separately, and have run out of BCV points.

I thought more about the question of getting 2 br standard view. If you buy a direct fixed week for a studio at your time of choice, you could likely book a 1 bedroom standard view fairly easily in addition, and save points vs a 2 br premium view. There’s still a lock off premium but it’s cheaper than the better view categories. You could always waitlist the 2 br standard to save points, too.

I see a lot of people on FB commenting that the parking situation is tough at the Poly with the construction going on (people being sent to TTC to park?). Does that include the DVC parking lot? We have a 2 night stay at the original DVC buildings (not the new tower) next week and will have a rental car, so I'm wondering if we will have issues.

We just stayed there and last week and the lot was full. We were told to go to the main Poly entry and try to park in the DVC lot or at the TTC. We were also told the were shuttles that would bring us back to the tower. We ended up finding a spot at original DVC Poly lot. Of course nobody knew anything about a shuttle. People were being parked in the TTC lot which looked to be just on the other side of the DVC lot.

I think you and I are totally in the same boat. I just cant get over the riv restrictions. Not so much for the resale value but the fact that im going to have to buy restricted resale points to supplement it for longer stays which I refuse to do and I refuse to buy more than 150 direct.

Onwards to PIT, beautiful hotel, but that resort in general is not our cup of tea for so many reasons. DLR for the ToT is a no for me and no interest in going to aulani so often.

I dont want to wait much longer as I want direct benefits, but I feel like pit is going to be as useful to me at 11 months as SSR is now grrr. I want to have a lot of love for my direct resort.

Waiting for LSL may just be how it needs to be I guess. And ofc theres a chance we wont like that one either but if we do and i end up buying PIT first im going to be pretty bummed 😔

Maybe just buy 150 direct at SSR? It’s on sale. It’s not a fantastic deal, but you already know you like it.

Or buy Poly! It’s not like I hated it. I just have other preferences and it seemed…not enough like real Hawaii for me (I almost think it’s worse if you’ve been to the real places the hotels are modeled on. I’ve never been to much of the east coast and find Beach Club so charming! But it probably isn’t if you are used to the real thing).

If the leis were not made of plastic, it would honestly go a LONG way for me. lol. And this is heresy, but I really think only resort guests should be able to access resort spaces.

I've never stayed at SSR not sure if I like it 😆

Poly too crowded and too many kids, high points etc.dont like that there's no adult dining like my other two resorts

I'm not a fan of Hawaii (aside from Aulani i hope)

Are they still giving out leis at poly island tower? My cousin keeps talking about how she wants one but I thought they stopped

They were recently. I think they always give leis at the Grand Ceremonial House, which is very close to the tower. We got leis at both locations. But I don’t know if that’s normal; this was my first stay there.

I'll likely be arriving hungry in a few weeks. My husband and I have very different dining preferences/allergies. I'm planning on getting a Lapu Lapu and some noodles at Tambu lounge after we put our bags away. My husband can't eat anything there. Can he grab some sushi from the sushi place and bring it to eat at the Tambu lounge?

Yes. I have brought food from Captain Cooks

Just know that you may have to wait to get a table at Tambu Lounge. You can't order food to go. I've been when I've had to wait an hour for a spot to open up, and then times when it was closer to 20 minutes. Tambu Lounge is a first come, first served and there is not a lot of seating.

Can anyone confirm if the 1BR's facing the pool in the Island Tower, floor 2, are actually standard view? Touring Plans has almost all standard view 1BRs facing the parking lot except for two on 2nd floor. Is this accurate?

We will be staying at the Island Tower in a few weeks. When we arrive in the morning we will be leaving our luggage until check in later in the day. Do we check our luggage at the main lobby or will they hold it at the Island Tower Lobby?

We haven’t stayed at the the classic PVB studios since the last refresh (since 2020) so I’m wondering what changes were made besides Murphy beds.

Are the shampoo/conditioner/bodywash still in the individual little tubes or did they install the wall dispensers? Both bathrooms? What else should I be aware of?

Island Tower was nice, but I’m excited to stay classic again.

I think all now have the attached shampoo bottles but I don’t believe the older rooms have the upgraded version. They still have the thin tube nozzle that likes to come off.
