Just a friendly FYI....skiwee also posted a map of the Polynesian on page #1 of this thread

I read throught this thread, but I can't seem to find out how long the Poly rehab will take? Does anyone know when they anticipate being done with the rehab? Thanks.

Hi Nik's Mom ~ The rehab is on-going and the whole thing is not going to be done until sometime in 2006! They are supposed to do Captain Cook's later this year and the Great Ceremonial House as well.

There are several threads right now with different info on the rehab. The one I could find right off is:

http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=845542&highlight=poly+rehab

We are concerned about the Hawaii building rehab as we have ressies for mid-October and now they are saying that the Hawaii building will be closed 9/17 -10/10. If it runs over schedule then :confused3

Also, try typing a search for "Poly Rehab" and several of the threads will come up.

Sorry I can't be a little more helpful on the other buildings but we've primarily been watching the Hawaii info.

The room I was in the Atora building ( I don,t know if spelling is correct), the room had been redone, you could tell a new bathroom had been put in, and the mattress was very comfotable, you could tell the beds were new. I loved the room, just not the view, I had parking lot veiw. Which it was not a promblem to walk out to marina, for a veiw at night. ::MinnieMo

Has anyone ever stayed at the Honeymoon Suite? I just got a quote today for the dates I am staying, but can't find any info about it! Its pretty expensive, but will only be staying 3 nights. Can anyone help???

Oh, minniemousecat it sounds as if you might have been in one of the rooms with the new decor. Would you consider starting a new thread with a description of your room and its amenities if you were?

What colors were in your room? And was your door different than the others in the building...maybe with a Tiki mask on it? ;)

I just booked LV rooms for my vacation in May 06. Unfortunately my best friend smokes, so we have to have smoking rooms. Which rooms with LV are smoking?

The Hawaii Bldg has smoking on the 3rd floor. The floor is split with the smoking being the half furtherest from the elevators. This is also the Concierge Bldg.

Thanks for the response. Unfortunately we aren't staying in the Concierge Building because it was a choice between concierge or view and we went with the view. Do you know which building has smoking rooms and lagoon views if you aren't staying in the Concierge Building? Thanks.

I love the Polynesian!!! I'm hooked!

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------

It was suppose to be a budget trip. We were suppose to stay at POP for 4 nights. We ended up staying there for 1 night and 2 nights at WL and... we finally did it!! We stayed at the Poly for our last night!! We did the garden view. We were in Aotearoa bldg facing the monorail, on the 3rd floor.
The other side were facing the beach. Is this bldg half gv half lg? They didn't have Samoa 3rd floor facing the pool. The front desk CM was going to put us in Fiji, but I guess he changed his mind.

NO musty smell. The room is very clean and very nice! It definitely have the island feel to it. The pool is great!! The kids didn't want to go down the slide. The whole ground is just exotic! Very beautiful!

While staying at WL on our last night, we went to Poly to have dinner at O'hana. MMmmmmm....DELICIOUS!! The food was very tasty! It was GOOD! My daughter joined with the other girls do the hula hoop. She also did her hula dance and she did the coconut race. She hula hoop twice, she likes doing that. She got leis too!

What was even more "magical" about this dinner was that we came at the right timing. When we got our dessert, it was time for the Wishes. It was spectacular! The best part was we got one of the best seat! We heard the music from the park. It was piped in.

Before we did the O'hana (one and a half hour wait), we walked around the ground a little bit and let my children play on the sand. And I asked my children if they want to stay here. They said yes. So... we went to the lobby and used their phone and made the one night reservation.

We had our swim wear (day bag) packed. We had WL transfer our luggage to Poly. We took the bus to MK and took the monorail to Poly. We checked in. The room was ready at 11am, we got to our room and checked the room. We went down stairs to eat at the food court, then back to the room to change to our swimsuit and down we went swimming. The kids again played in the sand. We went back in the lobby to ask the front desk something. My daughter made a wrist lei and an ankle lei. I made an ankle lei too while my son watches the tv.

We went back to our room to change our clothes. Took shower. Went back out to Kona Cafe. Food....DELICIOUS!! I ordered steak! medium well.

We walked around a little bit more in the lobby. We got our picture taken with the ukulele lady. She knew I was from the PI (Philippine Island). She has been living in US for about 8 years now. She was born in the Big Island, but grew up in Oahu. Her family is still there. She visits Hawaii yearly. She is very fun to talk to. She still has the "Hawaiian" in her. She still got her "pigeon talk." She is a lovely woman.

We wanted to go back swimming but we were too tired. We just wanted to enjoy our room and relax. I wanted to hang out around 9:30pm to see the fireworks, but just couldn't make it. But that's okay. I can just imagine how beautiful the fireworks from the beach. We wanted to also walk to GF, but didn't make it, just too tired.

It was just awesome to see the monorail passing our room. But when the night fell, I noticed the noise from the monorail. It got too me a little bit. Next time I will ask for the 3rd floor any bldg and NOT facing the monorail.

They can have a little better customer service. Why is it so hard for them to smile and greet you. I am talking about the front desk and the concierge desk. Besides the bell service guys, the front desk CMs are the first ones the guests interact with. They should give their very best of welcoming them to their resort. No aloha... not a smile. Not a "thank you for staying with us." I have to thank them for giving MY business! I got the leis. "Here is the leis for your family." Very casual. I could have just took it from the desk. But he knew I wanted one cause I was looking at them. No big deal about the leis. I got a couple here from Maui. I got one too for my head.

Everything else was just wonderful! I love love the room. I love love the grounds. I love the pool and the beach. I enjoy seeing the GF and the CR from afar. I of course was very happy to see Cindy's castle.

I love the monorail and I love the boat ride. I didn't get the chance to use the bus service. I am sure it is fine.

I am glad we stayed here even for one night. I get to try it. And now I did, now I know what to expect on our next trip. And I can't wait for our August trip!!

I think this resort is for me!! I love that tropical island feeling! And I am a tropical kind of girl. Fits me just fine. I think I'm in love with this resort! I think it is now my new favorite deluxe resort!

Welcome back Telly! Thanks for the exciting report.
Thanks Gary! You know I have another trip coming up this August. And you know where we're staying at... POLYNESIAN!! 4 nights there and 3 nights at POFQ!! This time I'll be prepared! I will have my sarong on and if I can find a plumeria or a hibiscus to put on my ear and have a head lei...then I am good to go! I am just so glad I did what I did. To be spontaneous! Now I know what is there to love about Poly....EVERYTHING Poly has to offer!

I'm already doing my dance for our August trip!   "Pearly shell.. in the ocean.." Does anyone know the rest of the song? I used to know this song. We used to sing this song when I was little.

I posted this already in restaurants, but no help.. I've got a shellfish allergy! I'm going to the Polynesian Concierge in December. My allergy is noted on our reservation through IPO - but I was reading on allearsnet.com reports and reviews that the lounge menu often contains sushi. Does anyone know if the sushi is vegetarian or with crab and shimp and stuff that will kill me LOL???

Telly your enthusiasim is wonderful! I really is a highlight of my day reading upbeat posts, especially topics i have a passion for.
Reading your description of your personal lei's , you sounded like you could pass as a Cast Member for sure. :earsboy:
Your so fortunate to be able to go back again so soon........that means more delightful reports!

Is this the song you meant Telly?

PEARLS OF WISDOM
Within an oyster, a grain of sand
has caused an irritation.
Around that wound a pearl has formed
the gem of her creation.

This grain of sand within her womb
that irritation was hidden
to cover up a deep assault
a thought that was forbidden.

That grain sprang from within the wound
into the light it has fallen.
She is asking me to bear witness
with this plea for help, she is calling.

I look upon her lovely face
and touch her skin so fair.
the pearls of wisdom she offers me
in her kindness she does share.

She has asked me to bear witness
to the pain she held within
and now the grain of sand she holds
is making pearls of all of those sins.

Where is that precious pearl I seek
deep within the watery lands?
Diving in the surface breaks
reaching toward it with my hands.

The pearls become my wisdom
which I share with you in love
The gems of my own creation
are a radiant necklace from above.

Fantasia ~ I'm so glad you got to stay at the POLY and that you had such a great time. After all that you went through deciding which resort(s) to stay at I'm glad it all worked out for you.

Thanks for the trip report.

Pearly shell in the ocean.
Shining in the sun, covering the shore.
When I see them, my heart tells me that I love you
more and more, my little pearly shell....

Well... close enough!

I'm glad I made your day a little bit nicer? better? special? I don't know what the word to use.

I love beaches, walking along the shore watching the sunset, I like mountains, volcanoes (of course not when it's errupting!), I like swinging on the hammock and feeling the breeze from the coconut trees or palm trees swaying and hearing the tropical music. And that is why I have fallen in love with the Poly. Poly reminded me of PI (Philippine Island). And of course Hawaii. And I love Hawaii!!

We went to Hawaii twice and I try to act like I'm local. I almost pass, except I don't speak "pigeon." It's "the kind" of how of they speak. Example: They talk stories. Where I am, we say, we tell stories. "the kind" just means when you don't know what it's called you say "the kind". But here we say "whatchamacallit."

Sorry... blah blah blah... I talk too much! I am just so happy! :teeth:

Thanks eeyoresmountainpals. Though it was a lot of packing and unpacking, 3 resorts in 4 days...it was sooo worth it!! But of course, I don't know if I want to do that again!

Telly
Polynesian Lover!!

You should probably avoid the sushi in concierge due to your allergy. It seems to me that Dick offered a variety in June and there was a shrimp sushi in the offering. There were vegetarian, as well as tuna, sushis as I recall and they were delicious. If you contact the staff prior to your arrival, I'm betting it would be possible to have some specially made for you without the shellfish or potential shellfish contamination. They are pretty good about accommodating special dietary requests.

Thanks Tess! I know IPO listed it on my ressie when I was booked, but I also called them and left a message today. Hopefully someone will call me back. I love sushi with salmon and veggies... I don't want the other guests to suffer because of me.

Just wanted to add that sushi is only served once a week. Have fun!
