Love the fact that they included the soldiers in giving an award.

The audience response to them seemed tepid (or just tired). We thought it was great though.

Yeah, I thought that too. I think it's hard for a lot of them to applaud the soldiers and not the war.

I have to say Helen Mirren, first she looked so beautiful, elegant none of that silly looking messy pinned up hair, or botox lips, or awful gown just stunning the gown, as like last years was the most beautiful of the night

So Happy No Country for Old Men won for best film!!! Daniel Day Lewis was terrific and he won best lead actor, but i was rooting for Johnny Depp. All the nominees for best actor were terrific, it must have been a very hard choice. Would have loved for Julie Christie to win tonight, she has always been a favorite of mine and she was fantastic in Away from Her.

He wasn't on there. He died after their cut-off. I wasn't sure if Heath Ledger would be on this year's or next.

Oh I didn't realize there was a cut off date. Still...I thought Roy had died before Heath Ledger, but not real sure I guess. LOL

I believe Roy Schieder just died this past week. Heath Ledger was a few weeks ago- they just keep talking about it on the entertainment shows.

Ledger died on January 22nd and Scheider died on February 19th. DH says he thinks the cut-off date is January 31st. I think they show the people in order of passing. If that's the case, Roy will be one of the first ones next year.

Did anyone else notice the fact that there was a tremendous loss particularly with regards to executives/agents (the old school non actor types)?

I only kept watching to see if Johnny could finally win. I really did expect Daniel Day Lewis to get it though. Johnny's day will come.

This Oscar telecast was strangely drab somehow. I love Jon Stewart as host though.

Did anyone else notice the lack of Bling this year? Did they all personally play it down the diamonds for a reason, or was that just the trend this year?

I noticed that too, and I also noticed more down to earth dresses than usual. Most of them were really lovely............not too many big poofy dresses or oddly shaped suits this year.
