The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

Amy - I kinda like what you're saying BUT doesn't Ilana work for Widmore? So if she works for the Dharma, then by association so did Daniel, Miles and Charlotte, and everyone on the freighter? And aren't we sure that was all Widmore?

Well, yes they all work for Widmore but Ilana doesn't...if what Amy said is true. The guy is the van, who is with Ilana on the beach, clearly works against Widmore because he was trying to get Miles to NOT go with Naomi on the freighter.

I was thinking maybe they work for Ben, they just don't know who Ben is when they encounter him. But I think that's also a good, theory...that they are the remainder of the outside Dharma people.

It's clear that Miles' dad didn't abandon him like his mom told him but maybe she made that up because of "the incident" which is going to happen soon. She probably didn't want Miles to ever go to the island so she never talked about his dad then when he started asking, she thought she'd say something horrible so he wouldn't want to go.

"This incident" was first referenced by Dr. Candle in the orientation for the Swan station, which Hurley and Miles saw being built last night. So it must have something to do with the magnetic field that caused that guys filling to be blown through his skull...hence the creation of the button to reset the magnetic field every 108 minutes!

Ok, maybe my coffee hasn't kicked in yet, but remind me again why it's thought that Ilana works for Widmore? We kind of figured she didn't work for Ben since she didn't know who Ben was when Sayid asked her about him on the plance, so we just assumed that she worked for Widmore. Was there a definite connection between Ilana and Widmore that I've forgotten?

Last night we saw Brahm (thanks for the name, chicagoshannon!) in the van telling Miles NOT to work for Naomi/Widmore. Brahm and Ilana are working together (we've seen them on the island with that crate of stuff), so maybe Ilana doesn't work for Widmore. But she and Brahm don't seem to be working for Ben, either.

I am so glad no one is talking about tonight's episode. my TiVo didn't record it :sad2: So now I have to wait until it is online. I know you can watch them for free on abc but isn't there another place? Just want to watch it as soon as possible if you KWIM?

If you have On-Demand you can watch it there.

Well, based on what they've shown us so far (and you know they love to misguide us), Ilana does NOT work for Widmore. I like the idea that the "what's in the shadow" password gang could be a modern day Dharma connection.

Also, remember Dharma was still air dropping supplies in season one, so you would think they didn't know about the purge and Ben/others were in communication with them to let them think their people were still there. If only Ben and Ethan were the remaining Dharma people, you'd think the off island Dharma folks would wonder why they were the only two (plus Desmond and his predecessor in the hatch) they ever heard from though.

hmm I bet that's right. The What's in the shadow is similar to "what did one snowman say to another" that Dharma was using in the swan station.

I think I like that Dharma may still be an active thing.

EXACTLY! The Hostiles/Others took over Dharma-ville after the purge. They had Patchy in that communication station, prob. keeping in touch with off-island Dharma, trying to pretend that everything was A-Ok on the island, keeping the food drops coming. Desmond was pretty much clueless (or so we think) in the Swan - remember how he thought he couldn't even go outside the station unless he put on that protective suit?

But wouldn't the off-island Dharma folks start to get suspicious when they only heard from certain people, and never heard from Horace (head Dharma guy) or Dr. Chang/Candle (head scientist guy)?

Yeah, I think the Ben mis-guiding them probably wouldn't work. But they would still be dropping suppllies to Desmond/current button pusher. Which poses the question....what did/do the others know/think about that station? Did they also believe that after Dharma's building of the station and them messing around with that magnetic area, that the button DID have to always be pushed. They'd certainly been just fine on the island before Dharma showed up. Hmmmmmmmm.....can't wait till this is all explained.

Nice catch!!

I was really thinking that they are working for Ben, but the Dharma idea is great! I do think that Ben knows whio they are either way...he just seems to, and he didn't think twice about blowing the guy away.

I think Miles will warn his mother/little Miles off the island to save them from the incident. I think that Daniel came back last night to prepare the group for the Incident.

Man it was good to see Daniel.

Oh and DH called the Star Wars thing last night! I had told him the episode title a couple of weeks ago, but I don't really think he remembered. When Hugo asked how to spell bountyhunter, DH said "Boba Fett." And I was like, "What?! you're so silly." lol I was thinking he was writing a journal of what happened in the future and thinking of the marshall as a bounty hunter or someone else. Star Wars never entered my mind. :lmao:

I'm bummed about the mention of the last episode and the picture of the actor, I kinda see them as spoilers as the episode has not aired, even if it is in the TV guide. I try to stay away from that stuff. :(
Ryan840, I totally agree with you. I feel anything that has not aired yet is a spoiler. I would appreciate anyone that wants to post that kind of stuff...either post it in white, or post it on the spoiler thread. Thanks.

The dude in the van that grabbed Miles is the same guy shown with Ilana on the beach (I didn't catch his name). So how about this for a "third" side in the struggle for the island: Dharma. Sure Ben and the Hostiles/Others wiped out the Dharma Initiative on the island. But Dharma had to have people on the outside for food drops, recruiting new workers to send in on the submarine, etc. So the outside Dharma folks lost communication with the island Dharma after the purge; the island was prob. also moved after the purge and the outside Dharma folks have been looking for the island ever since, just like Widmore's been doing. I think Ilana, the guy in the van and that shiny metal crate are Dharma. Comments?
I think your theory is dead on!

I don't think anyone on the island communicated with the outside world directly. Personally, I don't think they were meant to. Remember when Locke, Sayid and Kate found Mikhail's station(The Flame-communication station). Locke was playing around with the computer and found a video that explained the manual override...
"for pallet drop enter 2-4, for station up link enter 3-2, for mainland communication enter 3-8, for incursion by the Hostiles enter 7-7". So, you could communicate strictly by computer. I think as long as they were requesting periodic pallet drops nobody would be suspicious. Also, remember that Mikhail called himself the last member of the Dharma initiative. It was only after the hatch explosion and the sky turned purple that The Flame lost communication with the outside world. And that is when the mainland Dharma people would have known something was up. Which was also the same time that Widmore would have known something was up.

And I don't consider it a spoiler if it is on TV or in something like TV Guide. I think spoilers are when people go digging for info that is not readily available.

I disagree, sorry. I think it's a spoiler if it's something that hasn't happened yet -- such as a new actor/actress, a death, someone leaving, etc.

I think our speculation is fine, but not something that's confirmed in the media. I normally like spoilers, but for this show, I want to be completely surprised! :thumbsup2

On a side note, when I watched all the episodes for the first time last summer, I somehow managed to avoid any spoilers before seeing the show! Can you believe that? Oh, and I even went on IMDB to look up the actors and it didn't even sink in that Ian Somerhalder (Boone) had only been on 20 some episodes and all the other main characters had been on 80 some. :lmao: So it was a big shock when he died.

Don't know if it's been mentioned but my hubby caught an oopsie. In the scene where Kate was talking to Bens dad and she opened the beer it was one of the tabs like we have now. In the seventies weren't they still the pull tabs?

You summed that up so well! I think you are right.

And I totally agree with you about the spoilers. I read both threads, so it's not a big deal to be. But the reason we have 2 threads is so one can stay spoiler free. So anything that doesn't/hasn't happen/ed on the show in real time is a spoiler...

OK, I'm correctly myself - I meant Naomi, not Ilana! Duh! Cause Naomi was with everyone on the freighter, right?

I agree. I avoid the other thread like the plague and actually avoid looking at any articles about Lost. Most spoilers are derived from casting news for most shows. House was so shocking when Kutner died because they managed to keep the fact the was leaving so quiet.

I didn't post the pics but I'm the one who posted the TVguide bit and i just wanted to apologize if i ruined this episode for anyone. :flower3: I posted at work (don't tell my boss) in white letters and couldn't see it. However now that I am at home my screen is a little blue tinted and you can read it clearly. don't know if that is an issue with others or not but I didn't realize it varied from one computer to another.

Also, I see your point on this being a spoiler free thread and that there is a spoiler thread for those who don't mind knowing in advance. Since the tvguide description seems to be spoiler to some and non spoiler to others it makes the most sense to err on the conservative side and let's just all consider that spoiler and not discuss. For those (like me) who do not consider the tv guide episode title or description to be spoiler, i can just look it up and read myself without discussing.

When I read that naomi was in this one all kind of crazy things ran through my mind of why she was on the island again. It never dawned on me that it could be a rerun and so I wanted to see what everyone else was thinking. I guess I just got too excited and 'lost' control.

again i apologize if i offended anyone and hope we can just move forward from here ok? :)

I don't think anybody is mad or offended here. I've seen people get slammed for posting spoilers in the past (not this thread, but others), so I look at these posts as sort of reminders of what most posters consider spoilers.

The ones posted here, including the picture of the new character are relatively mild compared to, say, telling us that Jack is going to kill Sawyer next week. :scared1:

I read another Lost forum, and you wouldn't believe what they think are spoilers! And they're not quite as nice as the folks on the DIS when it comes to saying "isn't that a spoiler?" I'm afraid to post anything over there for fear of being yelled at.

Ok, back to discussing the show.

I re-watched the episode last night with my DS. At the very end where Daniel comes out of the sub and sees Miles and he says "Hi Miles, good to see you again" or something like that........Did Daniel seem different to you? The last time we saw him was when Sawyer's group was first captured by Dharma and they were sitting outside at night and Daniel saw young Charlotte walking by. Daniel was basically a blubbering idiot, mumbling about how he was NOT going to say anything to her, etc, etc. Daniel's always been kind of an absent-minded professor, but that scene made it look like he went off the deep end.

Then this week, he gets out of the sub and he seemed very confident and self-assured when he greeted Miles. Granted, it wasn't a very long scene, but he seemed different. I'm thinking he left on the sub shortly after they were captured by Dharma, went back to the "mainland" (or wherever the sub goes), and did some research and either (a) figured out how to get them back to the future or (b) figured out that it IS possible to change the past so that maybe Charlotte won't die.

What do you think?

:lmao: That's a good catch. I wonder if it was a oops or if the Dharma initiative made their money from inventing those cans.
