The Official LOST Season Five *No Spoilers* Thread

So who was the older lady at the church that Ben when to see?

My DS at college was watching it and we were texting during commercials.... I need to go watch it again!

Gotta luv Sawyer but he has put on just a little weight since the last season... but man :thumbsup2

That was the same woman who appeared to Desmond when he first started having his flash forwards. She told Desmond that if it was someone's destiny to die, then that someone would eventually die no matter how many times they saved them. (Think "You're gonna die, Charley.")

Episode: Flashes before your eyes

I was a bit annoyed with the pre-show. They didn't show any of the previously dead people in it (except for Ben's dad who is Uncle Rico in Napoleon Dynamite BTW). For example, the scene with Hurley jump-starting the VW van was cut up to avoid showing Charlie. What was up with that?

:confused3

Could she be the physicists mother? He told Desmond to go to Oxford and find his mother.

She looked really familiar but the actress has been in many shows so :confused3

DH and I were wondering if she will turn out to be Daniel's mother. That would give him and Desmond another tie.

Hi guys:goodvibes :goodvibes

Last night show was great!!! Poor Hurley he gets himself in some pickles.

I agree with the PP who said that whoever is doing the blood test is trying to get Kate to run back to the Island.

The Lady that Ben was talking to could that be his mother??

Did anyone wonder why Richard wouldn't recognize Lock next time he saw him?

Because the time travel would send him further back. Like when Ethan came upon him with the gun. Ethan didn't know who he was, because the plane hadn't crashed yet. The next flash must of been further towards the future, because Richard knew Ben then, but he figured the next flash would send him backwards.

That's what I think anyway.

I thought the older woman was the same person with Desmond too. My son said it was Locke's mother. I don't know about that.

I am a little confused. Last nights show was showing the Oceanic 6 three years later and the survivors on the island in real time. What happened to the survivors on the island during those 3 years? I understand that the island was going back and forth in time but the survivors weren't. Is this all part of the mystery?

But didn't Richard know Lock when he was a child and went to see him

I would have thought that Richard had been keeping tabs on Locke for years since he did visit Locke as a child.

Definitely not Locke's mother. She was played by Swoosie Kurtz(?).

I think that island time will remain off from real time.

Maybe Locke (now) will run into Richard before Richard knew Locke the child. Will they go back far enough to see what happened to the Black Rock???

Even if Richard did know him, if he went far enough back and Richard only knew him as a child he may not recognise him as an older adult anyways.

The lady talking to Ben was the same shop keeper that told Desmond he could not buy the ring for Penny during Desmonds first time travel back. She is also the very first character to explain the "rules" of time travel, like you can't change anything, and if someone dies they will die no matter what you do to change things. These are the same rules that Faraday was telling everyone as they were treking through the jungle. She is also apparently related to the Monk that runs the monistary where Desmond went for a while and eventually met Penny. In his office was a picture of her.

Hurley may be in trouble but I sort of believe that his situation is a literary trick if you will. While he is the one in the mental institution he is also the only one that is reacting to the whole situation the way you think one should react. He doesn't want to lie, he is scared of Ben, so much so that he is willing to let the police capture him to get away from him, and has no desire to go back to the island but thinks they should tell the truth and let the authorities deal with it rather than he and the other Oceanic six.

Richard wont recognize Lock for the same reason that Ethan didn't recognize Lock when he shot him. Lock will time travel prior to the plane crashng on the island before Richard knew of Lock. Even though Richard went and tested Lock as a child, he probably did not do that until after the plane crashed and Lock was identified as the potential new leader.

At this point the biggest question to be answered for me (which was not answered last night) is can the others, Ben, Richard et al control in anyway time travel? Can they do it at will or must they merely let the island throw them around in time? The answer to this would explain why Richard would not recognize Lock the next time he saw him. It would be because prior to the plane crash he had never met him and his trip back to visit a young Lock was only thought of after the others met him. Thinking about this as I write it that has to be the case because Richard brought Lock's future posessions back in time with him to ask the young Lock which were his.

Finally the big reveal for me last night was how much knowledge Faraday has of the whole thing. Between his appearance at the construction of the Swan station to his little book that has all the answers, its apparent he knows a lot more than everybody else.

Hi!! First time poster to a Lost thread :goodvibes I have been watching the past few seasons and am totally addicted to the show!!!!!!!!!!!

Can anyone tell me who the lady at the butcher shop was????????? Also, as much as I want Jin to be alive, I think the "back from the dead" person will be Locke.

I also agree with the theories that the lady in the church is Daniel's mom (guess we will find out next week since Des says he is going to Oxford...)

And don't hate me Sawyer lovers, but was anyone else disappointed in his tummy this season?? Please, please, please do some situps and be the Sawyer we all know you can be!! :flower3:

That's what I was wondering. It seemed like we were possibly supposed to recognize her, but I didn't. Ben called her Jill.

DH and I thought we were supposed to know her, but according to IMDB she wasn't in any past Lost eps.

When we saw Daniel at the beginning of the movie, where he'd infiltrated Dharma, do you think he'd done that before the crash? Or do you think he did that while he was gone from the group for those 2 hours, after he talked to Desmond at the hatch?

BTW, are there any True Blood watchers here? You know Carrie Preston, who plays the redhead Arlene from the bar? Well, she's married to Michael Emerson and she was the one who played his mother in the episode where we saw him as a child!

Okay...I wasn't able to watch last night. I'm watching it now. I think I'm going to have to watch it again. Did anyone else feel more confused?
