*** The Official July 2014 thread, join us won't you? ***

I haven't posted in a while. We moved to a new house and with packing, unpacking, and just being so exhausted, I really haven't been on much. Hopefully now that things have relaxed a little, I can start planning our trip again. Hope everyone is doing well.

Great to hear from you! Enjoy settling into your new home! And enjoy getting back to Disney planning! :)

That sounds perfect! You could relax there a little before your window opens up!

Good idea! That way I can get all set up in there and have everything ready to go and just get those FP+ done! :-)

Great to see you! Best of luck in your new home, enjoy it! Moving is exhausting and of course very time consuming. It must feel great to have all of that done and of course to have more time for trip planning!

Thanks. We are getting there. Not too much left to do.

Yeah, my daughter keeps asking why we haven't been talking about Disney. I think she is going through withdraw.

Hope you're enjoying your new home!!

I know, right? I feel really behind with my planning. Don't even gave my spreadsheet together, but with this coming week off for Spring Break, I hope to get everything done.

That really stinks!!! :( I have heard of that happening and always worry it will happen to us. We have to make up 4 or 5 snow days.
I would rather make them up in June rather than losing spring break though.
We leave for Disney on Thursday for our spring break. I can't wait!!! :)

That was my feeling. Why not just tack the days on to the end of the year rather than interrupting our spring break! :confused3

Loving hearing about all the celebrations during our July trips!! We will be celebrating our 7 year anniversary and we were married at WDW, had our reception at the Cali Grill, had an Illuminations dessert party that night, and stayed at the CR, so......this time we're staying at BLT and are going to eat at Cali Grill on our first night to celebrate!!!

It'll be 9 years this August, and usually we are there for it, but this time we'll be celebrating a little early. We didn't have a a WDW wedding, but we did have a Disney themed reception, and "our first dance" song was the song "Promise" that's at the very end of Illuminations (since we got engaged at Epcot and had VIP viewing for the fireworks).

Tomorrow is our proposal anniversary, which happened at Alfredo's at Epcot 10 years ago. :-)

Oh, I miss Alfredo's. I liked it better than The current place. We went there on our honeymoon when the dining plan was still "newish." this meant places weren't as crowded. The waiter gave us top class service since we were on our honeymoon. We didn't make a big deal out of it at other places, but he asked why we were there. It was definitely a romantic meal that day. :)

In New York, at least, that's not always possible. NY gives statewide Regents Exams for high school kids, and school NEEDS to be done before they start. So snow day makeups need to be done before that. And I think just about every district will follow the same calendar for the whole district, so even the elementary kids need to be done by the start of Regents.

This year they're from June 17-25. So that's the absolute deadline.

That what's happening with us. My husband and kids have two extra days tacked on (all are in the same district) and I have three. Some other districts by us are doing things called blizzard bags so they aren't adding more days.

That just sounds so weird! They have have state testing after school is over???
Our last day was June 19 now it's the 25th. We leave for our drive to Disney on June 28. I was hoping to have a few more days to pack and get stuff ready. The same thing happened last year.

That seems kind of strange to have students taking test after school is over. In Pa the students have already taken the PSSA exams, so that wouldn't be an issue. Oh well, just have to live with it.

They're statewide exams in most of the major secondary subjects:
Algebra
Geometry
Algebra II & Trig
Earth Science
Bio
Chem
Physics
English
Global History & Geography
US History & government

Since they're based on the content the kids are supposed to have mastered over the school year, it's only logical to put them at the end of the year.

This isn't some new Common Core thing; Regents were old news when I took them in the mid 70's.

It was my absolute favorite restaurant...

Exactly! They're more like a state "final exam" than the state exams our elementary school and middle school students take. My third grader DS just took the ELA state exam (English Language Arts) for the first time, as they begin taking this in third grade. It was a 3-day exam, 90 minutes per day of testing. Regents are 3 hours long, one day for the subject, and based on anywhere from one year to three years worth of the subject. Add to the list above, foreign language also known as LOTE (Languages Other Than English), which is what I teach (Italian). Students take this exam after the third year of a language. There are also music, art, dance and theater regents but those are given in schools like mine where the screened programs are based on these subjects (some of our students audition to get into the theater, art or music program, and dance is done in-house for current students). In NY state we have two types of HS diplomas. One is a regular regents diploma with 2 math, 2 science, 2 social studies and the English regents. The other is the advanced regents diploma which adds trigonometry and foreign language. Music, art, theater or dance could replace foreign language but my students take both.
