American Idol David Cook Speaks Out on Women, Family

What's it like to win American Idol and be the latest rock star sex symbol? David Cook isn't really sure yet. "I need a couple more days to wrap by head around what happened," the 25-year-old Missouri rocker, who topped runner up David Archuleta by a landslide 12 million votes told People magazine. "It's such a life changing thing." And the magazine notes that it was a bittersweet victory: Cook's brother Adam, 36, has been battling brain cancer but was able to attend the May 21 finale.

The article notes that David wiped away tears as he spoke about dealing with his brother's struggle during the competition. "I know that he's proud, and that is kind of getting me through at this point," he says. "He's still fighting, which is all we can ask for right now." His mom, Beth Foraker, and brother Andrew joined Cook onstage after his win: "I loved that I got to share that moment with them."

The magazine notes this week that the new idol hunk was tending bar in Oklahoma less than a year ago and he is just now getting used to paparazzi, who recently caught him stepping out with season 2 Idol alum Kimberly Caldwell, 26, to Ruth's Chris steak house in L.A., after he asked her out live on the TV Guide Channel's Idol Tonight preshow. Cook, who says he's "single-ish", finds all of the female attention "very, very new."

And odd. "I'm thinking, where was that before the show?" he jokes. "I'm just a nerd. I'm a goofball. You guys might want to get to know me a little bit more." A lot of women would like to take Cook up on that.

First forty something women were credited to an unexpected win for David cook on American idol and now they have pushed Sex and the City to the top of the box office. Can the women that many call "cougars" make the claim that David Cook is the sexiest idol ever? He may not be Kelly Clarkson or Carrie Underwood but Cook certainly firs the bill when it comes to the male contestants. He's already landed sexy former idol contestant and TV Guide Network's Idol Tonight host Kimberly Caldwell.

And now a report from OK! Magazine claims that David Cook is going to have to her used to another title, that of bona-fide sex symbol. The 25-year-old bartender has won legions of female fans with his spiky hair, bedroom eyes and rocker style, and has made being a word nerd undeniably cool.

The magazine believes it was his Guitar Hero commercial that ran during the May 21 season finale that cemented his heartthrob status. Clad in nothing but a button down shirt and his underwear, he re-created the rock out scene Tom Cruise made famous in the 1983 classic Risky Business. "That experience was a little strange," David stared on the Tonight show. "I realized that I don't know anyone in this room. And I'm not wearing pants."

On the May 13 performance broadcast, an enthusiastic devotee held up a sign that read "Cougars 4 Cook", solidifying his popularity with the 40 plus set. "I have dated an older woman," David reveals to OK!. And, he says, he would "definitely consider" doing it again.

i posted this on the american idol thread but i'll post it here too.

So I was looking at a new photo Lacey (ex-so you think you can dance dancer) put up on her myspace page. This is the photo....

And her caption underneath the photo is....
"simple meaning. simply forgotten. ill try to forget you DC."

Interesting. And yes, she put DC in bold.

I don't know if anyone has posted this yet but the folks who put together the AI tour have pulled the tour performance of Barracuda by DC, Carly and Jason. DC talked about doing this in an interview with Michael Slezak on the EW website. According to him he was going to play guitar, Jason was playing drums and Carly on vocals. I wasn't going to the concert (they aren't coming anywhere near Nashville) but I was looking forward to maybe seeing a Youtube clip. Oh well, sounded like fun.

David Cook won American Idol by 12 million votes – and it appears many of them came from a fan base he might not have expected.



During a visit to the Today show on Thursday, the Idol champ chatted with Meredith Vieira, who told the 25-year-old singer: "A lot of [your fans] are older women, right ladies? It's the 'Cougars for Cook.

'"

"In fact, my friend, who's my age, is here," Vieira, 54, continued. "I'm not going to rat her out and say her name.

[But she said] 'Should I be embarrassed?' I said, 'No, look at him!'"

Cook soaked up the adoration with a modest "Aww" as the cameras panned to the crowd – largely female, as Vieira said – focusing on signs emblazoned with messages of love.

One read simply: "Will you marry me, David Cook?"

The singer said that he's dealing with the success day-by-day, but played it humble when it came to questions of his sex appeal.



"As far as people thinking I'm pretty or something," he said, "I don't know. It's amazing what a haircut and forgetting to shave will do.

I finally got around to watching DC on Best Week Ever.
Man-was he funny!
He is quite the actor-he made me love him even more.

I loved when he joked about the one hair gel he used-something like "20% stronger, 50% more flammable...but totally worth it!"
