The Official Harper's Island thread starts 4/9/09....

Here is a decent article from EW about last nights shows.

http://popwatch.ew.com/popwatch/2009/07/harpers-island-finale-recap-henry.html

Why didn't everyone with a gun open fire when Wakefield was on the ground? Why did they keep Wakefield tied up with belts back at a police station that had to contain at least one pair of handcuffs? How come Shea took a cat nap before telling the group about Jimmy's arrest record? And what kind of a mother wouldn't have noticed her pre-teen daughter had wandered off to chat with a mass murderer in his jail cell? Why is it that Sully didn't shoot definitely guilty Wakefield, yet seemed eager to blow away possibly guilty Jimmy? What possessed Sully, who'd previously been ready to quit this clambake, to not get on the boat with Shea and Madison? How did Wakefield make it out of the church with a flare embedded in his stomach? Why did Abby drop the shard of glass and the telescope while trying to flee from Henry? (There's too much intelligence in Elaine Cassidy's eyes to believe her character would be all "Look, ma! No weapons!") Isn't it better to have a weapon of some sort when angering the man who hanged both of your parents? Why did Henry need a signed confession from Jimmy when he'd already pinned the murders on Wakefield, when he'd left blood and tissue samples from Jimmy's body, and when Shea, the sole adult survivor, had suspected Jimmy was the accomplice anyway? If you were Jimmy, wouldn't you have grabbed a weapon to use against Henry instead of using your own body to hurl him over the cliff? After watching most of your close friends and family die, would you really make out on the Coast Guard boat taking you off the island? (And a bonus question my husband shouted at the TV when Abby used that screwdriver against Henry: "Why on earth would you stab his f****** foot?")

Ok, there were a lot of "why's" but I still enjoyed it, looked forward to it every week. Plus the scenery was gorgeous.

I really loved this show and found myself looking forward to it every week, I am acutally kind of sad it's over since it seems like there is nothing else on.

I was sooooooo happy Jimmy the hunk was not the murder! Wow is he hot!

Did we ever learn why the diary or book or whatever it was was so important? Was it just that it let them know Wakefield had a child?

I agree with those of you who said it started out slow (and to me, gruesome), but I also really liked it, and I'm sad it's over. We were big "Twin Peaks" fans (almost 20 years ago!), and the setting and whodunit part of "Harper's Island" reminded us of "Twin Peaks" (minus the supernatural and quirky stuff, and disappointing villain and ending).

The craziest weakness to me is that the sheriff didn't tell Abby, "It's Henry who is Wakefield's child and is killing people!!!!!". Did he not know? J.D. would have, and also could have told her. But without the weaknesses, there wouldn't have really been a show.

omg i thought the same thing...
I just feel a little weird about WHY Henry did it, i mean he kept saying it was all for her, but why kill all those people, either way i loved it.

WOW Im not the only one who thought Jimmy was HOT!! WHew I havent lost my sense of good looking men as I got old!! I think they should keep doing this type of show and each time having the guy who played Jimmy in it...made the show soooo good for me :) I too am sorry to see it end, its been a while since I had a show that I looked forward to actually watching each week

:

I just want to know WHY did the chief of police tell everyone that Wakefield was dead....and why did everyone believe that he was dead????????? This makes no sense to me.
QUOTE]

I think the story behind that was , he shot Wakefield, who then fell off a cliff. No body was found, but he thought Wakefield was dead and made the poor choice to fake the body to calm the people on the island

I personally enjoyed the story line ALTHOUGH I didn't care for the gruesome killings.. I am not into that and especially on TV... My DH loved the show so I watched as a shared activity/interest but I could do without the gruesome killings. That is just my 2 cents.

Ok, I thought Henry was way cuter than Jimmy and was SOOOOOO disappointed he was the killer. I was screaming "NOOOOOOOOO, NOT HENRY!!!" at the tv. It was so cold how he killed Trish. Wow.

On the show as a whole though, it seemed to go on way too long and got kind of dead (no pun intended) in the middle (like episodes 5-8 maybe). It seemed like we didn't get anywhere for the whole month of May. That's a long time to be disappointed and I'm sure that's when many watchers were lost. I'm thinking something like this might play better (and keep fans) if it was done in a mini-series fashion - you know, one or two hours every night for 4-5 nights.

My thoughts exactly. Seems like there should have been a better way to get Abbey on the island for a visit besides faking a wedding then killing the entire wedding party. :sad2: especially since they were friends.......

Did he not know? J.D. would have, and also could have told her. But without the weaknesses, there wouldn't have really been a show.[/QUOTE

Loved the show but this one thing really bugged me. Henry leaves J.D for dead on the docks. Abby comes up and J.D. has just enough life left in him to utter one thing. He didn't think to say, "Henry is Wakefield's son" or "Henry is the killer." Noooooooooo. Instead he says, "It's all about you, Abby" and then he dies! Really? He couldn't think of anything better to say? :confused3:lmao:

But I loved the show despite all the flaws.

As my mom used to say "because that's not the way it was written". Seriously though, if he'd said that the show would have been over, no more mystery. He certainly should have said Henry is the killer!

I was disappointed in the finale, I guess because I figured Henry for the killer since about midway and was hoping for more of a surprise twist. I did enjoy the show as a whole and wish they would do more like it.

Jimmy was way hotter than Henry ;)

I know Abby's mom knew that Henry was the son she gave up, you could tell by the way she looked at Mrs. Dunn in the flashback. But I don't believe the Sheriff knew or he would have told Abby when she first learned Wakefield had a child, at least IMO.

Did Henry ever say if he killed his parents, the Dunns? How much older was Henry than Abby, does anyone know?

I don't get the age issue, Abby and Henry look about the same age. Also how did Wakefield find out Henry was his? I can't believe Trish did not know something was up with Henry while they were dating. I really liked the show, but the finale could have been a lot better. I wish they would have more shows like this.

My DVR froze up for the last 25 minutes of the last episode. :guilty: The sister was sitting at the FBI office when it froze up - what did I miss?

Regarding Henry and Abby's ages...I vaguely remember a flashback scene that took place around the time Abby's mother was killed; she made a comment to Nikki (I think) about how Henry and Trish were in college and still dating. So maybe they were a year older? :confused3

Jimmy was way hotter than Henry ;)

Agreed!!!:lovestruc
I do recall where they were talking about the dating and being in college so I would agree he is at least a year older. Being on a small island I dont think it wouldve been hard to Wakefield to figure out who had an adopted kid around the right age. Also he couldve tortured Abbys mom to get it out of her before he killed her. I dont think that Henry killed his mom and dad cause I think he found out about the adoption after they were dead. And I think Trish might easily overlook her future hubby as being a cold sadistic killer cause he played the smiling caring part so well

First let me say that overall I enjoyed the show but I was also involved in the online community and parallel storyline called Harpers Globe. Through HG, we got a lot more background info than just by watching HI alone, although it was nothing that HI audience absolutely had to have. But by seeing all kinds of things bounced around in the forums there, I think we overanalyzed so much!

One thing I don't understand is that I read that Harper's Island has not been renewed for the fall. How on earth could they renew it once half the cast is killed off and they solved a murder? Would the few survivors come back to Harpers Island for another wedding and another relative of Wakefields shows up and starts killing them?

There was no plans to renew it,it was only supposed to run for the summer.

Originally, per the producer, they had plans for future seasons, some ideas were Harpers Safari, Harpers Cruise, etc. It would have been new setting, new cast, etc. But same basic idea......

:lmao: I still think it was Jimmy!!!!!!

I dont like that "Wakefield" was alive and came out of nowhere towards the end. He wasnt even a 'suspect" on the website. NOT FAIR!;)

I just want to know WHY did the chief of police tell everyone that Wakefield was dead....and why did everyone believe that he was dead????????? This makes no sense to me.

It was fun, but the plot was soooooooo filled with holes. Much made no sense at all. Like the cops "doing a full invesigation" and telling the weird kids Mom that everyone was dead. OIY!

Anybody up for "Return to Harpers Island"???? Maybe Abby & Jimmy will return for their Wedding!:lmao:

This is what bothered us so much on HG - we were told 25 suspects, 1 killer, and yet here comes Wakefield so there were basically TWO killers!

Also, from HG, we had a lot of archived newspaper articles, so it was stated that Wakefield fell off the cliff after being shot. It is believed he bounced around the rocks for a couple of days before Mills found him. I don't think Mills ever found anyone. Don't think Wakefield ever fell off the cliff. I just think that Mills wanted some closure for the island and that he felt that W's work was done since he killed Sarah, who we all know gave their child up for adoption.

You are right - waaaay too many holes..... I think they could have done so much more with it!

Did we ever learn why the diary or book or whatever it was was so important? Was it just that it let them know Wakefield had a child?

The craziest weakness to me is that the sheriff didn't tell Abby, "It's Henry who is Wakefield's child and is killing people!!!!!". Did he not know? J.D. would have, and also could have told her. But without the weaknesses, there wouldn't have really been a show.

I don't think Mills knew that Henry was involved with the killings. And remember when Mills said that he made a deal with W? Part of that deal, Mills gave his life in exchange for Jimmy to be with Abby. I think Mills thought that W was back but that if he sacrificed himself and Jimmy was spared, that maybe Jimmy could save Abby.

And yes, the diary was to show that W had a child.....

WOW Im not the only one who thought Jimmy was HOT!! WHew I havent lost my sense of good looking men as I got old!! LOVED Jimmy!!!!!!

But I loved the show despite all the flaws.

I think that JD saw Henry coming up behind Abby and knew that if he told her, that Henry would kill Abby...... AND that made us the viewers think that the "all about you" was to imply that ABBY was W's child!

I was disappointed in the finale, I guess because I figured Henry for the killer since about midway and was hoping for more of a surprise twist. I did enjoy the show as a whole and wish they would do more like it.

I totally agree that the ending could have been soooo much better! And I think that Mills DID know about Sarah's child with Wakefield. But I don't know if he knew it was Henry for sure????

I read that the Dunns died in a car accident. don't know if it's true or not.... Also, did Henry kill JD's girlfriend (the one that died in the apparent murder/suicide that sent JD to the institution)?

I don't get the age issue, Abby and Henry look about the same age. Also how did Wakefield find out Henry was his? If you look at the flashbacks, Henry looks to be a year or two older than Abby.

Overall, I enjoyed it. But I picked Henry about the time I figured out that Wakefield had a child with Sarah Mills. Mid season maybe? And I was really hoping for a crazy twist in the end. I think he played the part great, and I would watch another Harper's mystery, but I would go into it knowing that what the producers promised is not what we would get.
