I liked the story line of Rachel & Finn's parents trying to push them away from marriage and it backfiring.

I also felt it was too "preachy" regarding the 'God Squad' singing to Brittany. While I agree with the final answer, when they were explaining the reasons they SHOULD sing, it just sounded wrong (something in the presentation).

amber riley blew me away. The timing considering they film weeks in advance left me speechless. She should have been the one to do the tribute at the Grammy's instead of JHud.

I agree it was amazing!!! I really don't like any of Whitney's music (especially that song) until I heard it sung last night!

I absolutely loved Mike and Tina's number, he is my favorite and they sounded so wonderful together!!

Oh my goodness that was totally adorable and I just may watch that part again this morning!! I love watching Mike dance and I'm glad they are having him sing now!

I loved tonight's episode. The songs were great and Amber Riley blew me away. Rachel's dads were hilarious and I love that their plan is backfiring to keep Finn and Rachel from getting married.

No, the episode was filmed weeks ago, and the song fits perfectly into the Mercedes/Sam relationship.

I'm not a fashionista, but I find it incredible how they constantly manage to dress Mercedes in ways that work for her. The red dress she wore during the Whitney Houston number was exquisite and just goes to show you that plus-sized people can dress fashionably and look good too. Now, if I can just get their wardrobe person's number

I don't watch the show but I listened to the girl that sang Whitney's song and she gave an excellent performance! I would have to say better than Jennifer Hudson.

To be fair, Amber Riley's was a recorded, studio version, no doubt with plenty of rehearsal time. Jennifer Hudson was performing live after very little rehearsal time, under the white hot spotlight of a worldwide audience tuning in to see just how they would pay tribute to Whitney and singing "Whitney's song", to boot. Not to mention it was an emotional burden for a young woman who not very long ago lost her mother and other family under tragic, sudden circumstances.

Amber Riley absolutely gave a knockout performance. No surprise there, she hits a homerun every time. I thought Jennifer Hudson did a fantastic job and felt more than once she was keeping it low key, trying not to showboat (Christina anyone?). It definitely gave me the feeling Jennifer was trying to give a respectable performance, but in tribute to the woman who will be remembered for owning that song vocally.

If Amber had performed for the Whitney tribute we'd be reading a flood of comments everywhere about, who in the heck was that girl & why would they pick her, no matter she did a great job of it. I'm satisfied the Grammy's picked Jennifer & feel she did a great job. If I ran the world, I'd have asked Dolly Parton to come and perform it, completely removing it from Whitney's style. No doubt Dolly would have given a knockout performance, but it would have really left the audience with the reminder of just what Whitney brought when she opened her mouth.

Well the picture was a black guy and a white guy. Last night it was two white guys, did they not go back and look at their old footage or just think we would forget?

I agree completely.

Amber Riley was doing an almost note-for-note copy of the Whitney Houston version, which I think is why it brings up Whitney's memory so vividly.

Jennifer Hudson used her own interpretation, so while it was not as familiar, it was just as powerful, in my opinion. And the emotionality of it was evident. It is terribly difficult to sing when you are on the verge of tears, as Jennifer clearly was.

Comparing the two is like apples to oranges.

If you look on You Tube, you can find Dolly Parton's original version. It is worth a listen, and brings out yet another side of this song - more sweet and sentimental, and definitely more "country"!

I remember that. Mainly because I started watching Glee last season. Netflix sent me season 1, so I remember Rachel saying that one of her dads was black. I hate it when they re-write history. As if the fans are too stupid to not remember.

The dads were played by Jeff Goldblum and Brian Stokes Mitchell. Jeff Goldblum is white.
Brian Stokes Mitchell is multi-racial, but usually describes himself as African American. here is what he says about his looks and racial heritage:

Stokes is African American, German and Native American.
...
And his "look" has been a mixed blessing.

"It's allowed me to play lots of parts because I fit in so many places. On 'Trapper John' some viewers thought I was Jewish. But because I don't look completely one ethnicity or the other, sometimes (directors and producers) don't know what to do with me."

They fooled me. Even you telling us what happened in the first season isn't bringing any recall back to me. Man, my oldtimer's really is getting bad. What were we talking about again?

I loved Rachel's dads, especially how Finn kept referring them as Mr. and Mr. Berry. I knew they were pulling the old "let's make the kids think we support them and maybe they'll end up doing what we REALLY want them to do" trick, funny how it's blowing up in their face (which I knew it would since Leah Michelle had Tweeted how she was filming a scene in a wedding dress a few weeks ago, although we'll obviously have to wait till next week to see if the wedding goes through or not).

I'm surprised no one has mentioned the (literal) gorilla in the room, Karovsky hitting on Kurt. I certainly didn't see that coming, although I think Kurt was right in his comments to Karovsky and I'm glad he let him down gently (even if David didn't take it gently). I'm so glad to see that they are writing at least some the characters as more mature as they're reaching graduation (Kurt and Quinn the two that jump to mind).

It'll be interesting to see where they go with the Sue being pregnant story, it can't be Mr. Schue's baby right, he wouldn't have actually given Sue a "sample" when she propositioned him in her office a few episodes ago would he?

I'll admit I guessed Karovsky as he was walking in Breadsticks(?) in the Gorilla suit. What I didn't know was who was the boy who "noticed" Kurt & David?

I remember that. Mainly because I started watching Glee last season. Netflix sent me season 1, so I remember Rachel saying that one of her dads was black. I hate it when they re-write history. As if the fans are too stupid to not remember.

I don't remember her saying it, but I seem to recall that there was a picture of her Dads in her locker during Season One.

Great episode, I'm glad they're touching on relevant topics..BUT..I admit it, I almost started crying when the truck hit Quinn's car Ugh..wish they had saved the texting while driving lesson a little further into the season.
