KA-BOOM!
An explosion rocks PC this week on GH, when a secret exchange between Alcazar and Mr. Craig hits a major snag.
It all begins when Jason finds evidence that Sonny has been targeted by a sniper. He goes to Alcazar and demands to know who he is working with. "Alcazar is very coy," previews Ted King. "He doesn't tell Jason. He doesn't tell Sonny. He doesn't tell Ric, even though they all come to his hospital room while he's recovering from this bullet wound to the head. He tells them to mind their own business and stay out of the way [of the shipment arriving] or they'll all be killed."
Alcazar makes headway with Jason, "because Sonny shuts down all his operations," continues TK. "As does Alcazar. That piques Ric's interest as the D.A. He knows something is up. He wants to know why all of a sudden there's peace, particularly after Sonny shot Alcazar in the head. Alcazar simply tells him, 'Maybe we've declared a truce.' "
Finally Alcazar learns the shipment is on its way to PC. "A briefcase is being delivered to Metro Court, and Alcazar has to receive it personally," explains TK. "That forces him to get up out of his hospital bed, despite his trauma. There's no choice. Too much money is at stake. There are *lives* at stake."
Alcazar struggles to make it to Metro Court, where he receives a briefcase containing a microchip from his contact, which he puts in the hotel vault for safekeeping. "Then, he meets Mr. Craig, who finds out the shipment was delivered early and wants it," outlines TK. "Alcazar says he's not getting it until the exact moment they agreed upon."
In the interim, Alcazar retrieves the briefcase from the vault and punches in a secret six digit code. "The code has to be re-entered every 24 hours or the briefcase and its contents will self-destruct," warns TK. "It's something out of James Bond, or Mission Impossible."
Indeed. In the opening seconds of the Jan. 26 episode, an explosion rips through the hotel. But to find out what happened, you'll have to really pay attention - because time in Port Charles will be turned back 16 hours.

GH Turns Back Time
It's a daytime first when GH sets off a riveting explosion and then sets the clock back 16 hours to explain what led up to the blast.
"We play the end of the movie first," sets up JFP. "What you see in real time is what happened the first hour, the second hour...We're going to play out the day leading up to the explosion."
The story is "absolutely the brainchild" of HW Guza, borne out of last year's Luke and Laura reunion. "When we did that, we were building to a conclusion that the audience could totally anticipate," notes JFP. "We didn't try to trick anybody that Genie Francis was staying longer, and we had a clock ticking. I said to Bob, 'What can we do that will give us the same kind of momentum in another story?' A week later, he came up with this."
JFP promises it will be a Feb Sweeps to remember. "We try and be as hip as time and money can possibly allow us to be," she says. "To try and keep something really vibrant as we build toward an ending that the audience has already seen is a challenge."
Which means viewers can expect a lot of "big moments" in the hours leading up to the explosion. "Obviously there is a clock ticking and the stakes have been built up," says JFP. "People discover things and have to make decisions about their lives."
And those lives are at risk. "There's a madman on the loose," warns JFP. "Sam makes a daring escape. Robin's life is in jeapordy. The Quartermaines will be deeply affected as they face a terrible fear."
And, ultimately, a tragedy. As previously reported, Stuart Damon's Alan will die, although he will *not* be blown to smithereens.
Tick, tock......
