My hot take on Anora - it was great at a Howard Hawkes-style screwball comedy but when it tried for a Billy Wider-esque cynical ending it couldn’t stick the landing.

Still my favourite of the nominees. Nowhere near as good as Strange Darling though. That’s a hill I’ll die on.

Honestly when I see most of the big award winners after the shows I usually am always wondering why it won.

For those that haven’t heard of Anora - it is a lot of fun (trigger warning - adult comedy). It did win the Palme D’Or at Cannes which is probably the most prestigious film award in the world.

I haven't seen Anora, but I'm a Sean Baker fan because of The Florida Project. I still haven't shaken that film yet.

My kid called it as well. He saw every nominated film all the way down to the short films and more obscure categories.
