The official de-rail this post thread!

Perhaps with more context you would’ve agreed it was snark. (For me there was little doubt.)

Honestly I’d rather have someone tell me outright to F off than to see this type of passive-aggressiveness on threads.

I’ve had many people tell me privately it’s why they don’t post here much anymore.
I must agree...I hate snark and the biting sarcasm that apparently make some people feel very witty or empowered or whatever. We've even had threads discussing it and people defend their use of it and claim to behave exactly the same IRL as they are on the boards, in the glorious name of "not taking crap from anybody". It often has me wondering how that works out for them. But, just like in real life, I wouldn't advocate for those people to be censured or banned or whatever - just roll my eyes and go on to the next post.

The irony level of this statement coming from someone who, instead of saying something on thread were the post was written copied into another thread to criticize the writer, is very, very high.

I'm on other forums, Disney related and not, and I have to say that the DIS is the least bad. On those other forums, people straight up insult each other and call each other slurs. They have "no politics and religion" rules too but they're ignored every day. Facebook, Twitter and Reddit are WAY worse too. Some people just really like being argumentative and to debate with others. That's why on every social media site out there (here included), the threads about negative topics get WAY more attention than positive ones.

I do find it funny that even the most innocent of threads can get "derailed" and it turns into a big debate. My favorite ones are ones about parenting and weddings. Those rile up the most people. The one about someone not dressing up for a wedding got people heated. I can't wait for the meltdown that'll happen on a thread about a dry wedding or a childfree wedding.

In terms of people being snarky and/or passive aggressive, I just roll my eyes and scroll down especially if it's coming from people who constantly do it. Sometimes I've done it during discussions that I'm passionate about and I'll admit that. I do notice that it happens the most often about the most useless topics LOL I was surprised to see it even happen on that one thread about picking up your kids from school.

I agree with your point too. If something bugs somebody that much, go ahead and respond to that poster in defense of whomever it seems like needs defending. Or don't. What ever happened to good, old-fashioned just carrying on? I've been pm'd a few times by people (at random, I often wonder why they're even contacting me and I never respond) informing me they've reported so-and-so for saying such-and-such on a thread when they themselves weren't directly involved. It's mystifying.

Ooooh! I love a good "cash bar" discussion almost as much as a good tipping thread! And luckily, the season is almost upon us! :teeth: I and about 40 other ladies attended a bridal shower the other night for a couple whose wedding none of us are actually invited to. Anybody want to take a shot at that one? :hyper:

I totally forgot about cash bars at weddings! Oh yeah the OP will totally be raked across the coals for that. Can't wait!

It was one example of what occurs on many threads here (that I said I happened to see that morning, so it was fresh in my mind). Besides that, one practically took their life in their hands going there, particularly if one held a minority opinion, which seems to be more and more of an issue here (and elsewhere) these days, as well.

I don't know how I missed the original thread! Off to hunt it down! Lol

Found it - that waa a thread that made my head hurt from the beginning so skipped it lol.

The one about someone not dressing up for a wedding got people heated.
That one got recently revived too!

Sometimes I get a reaction alert or a quote alert from a thread I've long forgotten about. That was one of them. I usually take it as an opportunity to remove it from my watched thread lists. I got a reaction alert yesterday from a post from October of last year. It's never an issue just like "I'm not in that frame of mind anymore" type thing lol. If it's a quote I'm going to typically just respond that I have no idea basically how to respond any longer.

Most of the time these threads are what I think of "moment in time" threads. Sure you may remember bits and pieces from a thread long after it's done with but the moment is usually just gone shortly there after.

I actually miss the more lively interactive talk that used to occur pre-covid over on the Theme Parks and Attractions board especially the News Round Up thread, I really miss that one. It wasn't about snips back and forth but rather the sheer amount of information that would get talked about, people had differing opinions but the moderation was one of the best and fairest with the best balance at that time. And in most cases people moved on from whatever was going on in hours as the newest topic would come up. The CB I think suffers from lack of variety in conversations that can occur. If it was as fast moving as that News Round Up thread was we'd probably see a different environment.

Years ago there was a poster here, mainly on the CB, with the user name “Bicker” and bicker he did. While I didn’t think he was rude or condescending many other people did. It seemed like he had an opposing view on almost everything posted here and he would post on many of them expressing his views.

Lol, I can think of a couple more that fit the bill even if their user names don't forewarn it. 🙃

Bicker sure did bicker, Steve. So many characters from years past, no longer here. I miss a lot of them; not all, but many.

The thing I liked best about Bicker was his signature.

It said something like, “Page 5? Time to Unsubscribe”! :lmao: (He had a good point there!)

Bashing anyone that has a different point of view seems like how most social media sites now operate and probably the main reason I don't participate there. Apparently some think bullying/discrediting others will somehow make us think more highly of their point of view. Can't be bothered with such nonsense and have better things to do with my time.

Many threads on here involve pointless hypthetical situations ................".....assume you wake up on Mars, what............." or any variation of that. Have ZERO interest in those.

One thing's for sure, he left an impact. It would be hard to forget Bicker.

I sometimes wonder about the combination of information people reveal in these threads and how someone unscrupulous could use it.
They certainly were weird to me, and numerically overwhelming at times. At least I haven't seen those threads for quite some time, just a real short board.
