*** The Official 2014 - DLR -July Thread ***(We All Have Been There & Back Home)

I'm not sure exactly what the official surprise sash looks like, but you could make a sash for the door out of the super wide floral type ribbon. They sell it by the yard at the craft store near me (or you could order a whole spool online if you can't find it). Then you could use a fabric paint pen to write on it. If your handwriting is terrible like mine, you could use letter stencils. It could be embellished with Disney stickers or even just printout some color Disney images, cut them out, and glue them on. Good luck pulling your surprise together, I'm sure it will be a success no matter what.

Thanks! I will check it out. :)

Well Bob, you can officially remove us from the July list :guilty: . Long story short , we just returned from a wonderful week at WDW , and have been preparing for our 1st DL trip in July for a while. But we have a little problem now ............ During our return flight home, our aircraft had some major problems and had to make an emergency landing at the "nearest airport" . Major problems equates to a shattered front windshield on the co-pilot side of the aircraft, loss of cabin pressure at 20,000 + feet , and a rapid descent while preparing to don the oxygen masks (which thankfully never had to deploy). Pilot and co. Pilot handled the situation like the pro's they are (while wearing full on oxygen breathers) and got us down safely. They were visibly shaken and stressed so it must have been pretty bad, and possibily worse then they led us to believe as it was happening. They brought another aircraft in for us, and got us home with only a few hours delay , surprisingly . SO ............. after this traumatic experience, our family is not quite ready to jump on another flight right now ..........especially on one for our first ever flight "out west" (we are East coasters). Unfortunately we had to make the decision to cancel the July trip. I know it may be an over reaction , but certain members of the family are very stressed about getting on a plane right now. So its in our best interest to forgo the trip at this point. Hopefully we will be o.k. to try again with some WDW trips again soon. Thank you for working so hard Bob, keeping this thread up to date ..........I have been following along since the beginning. We have been REALLY looking forward to this trip for a while now, since we have never been to DL. Sorry all, one less family for the July group .............. :sad1: Have fun all !

So glad you and your family are safe! This is a good reminder of what is most important on these trips--that everyone stay SAFE. Sorry to hear you had to cancel, but completely understandable. Take care.

Sorry for the traumatic event you and your family experienced.. I am so glad you are all safe and back at home.

I could never imagine what all of you experienced at that moment and pray you, your family and the pilot will overcome this event.

I know we all will have another opportunity to meet up at Disney in the future. Take care and stop by to say hello as we all would like to hear from you when possible..

 - Bob

Thanks for the kind words :grouphug:

It was pretty a pretty scary time , but I am just glad everything turned out o.k. (our ears still hurt from the rapid descent, but I am sure we will be fine). Just have some hesitation about getting on a plane at this time. We have a trip to WDW planned for December, and have not yet decided if we will fly or drive now (YES we are GOING !) .
The airline has been great on checking up on us to make sure we are o.k. , and issued flight vouchers for our trouble (just not sure we are ready to use them, lol) .

All in all, just glad everything turned out well in the end ............other than having to cancel our Disneyland trip ! :(:scared:

Have fun all, and enjoy Disneyland all you July families !

Hi Everyone! I just found this great thread!

My family and I will be at DLR July 13-18 for our 1st trip to DLR! We are staying at VCG!

I'm a WDW Vet so I totally feel lost on prepping for DLR! I only have 1 reservation for PCH on the 17th which is our off day. I feel like I should have so many more but we are afraid of using park time to sit and eat.

Any suggestions for a DLR virgin? We plan on doing each park 1 day and then hopping another day.

I'm looking for a good breakfast spot not in parks for our day of checkout. DH wants to get an early jump to San Diego but I'm not in a hurry to say goodbye to DLR!

Welcome to the party :)
Our fam is like yours--WDW vets, but first time to DL.
The GCH has a Storytellers breakfast that has characters. We're doing that our second day. You can still get a bit of Disney and spend the day at San Diego. Win win.

SYNDROME:
I'm so happy y'all are ok. It really is all the matters! DL isn't going anywhere.

Oooooooo, FFerret and Tropigal…..

So excited for you to both be visiting the Disneyland Resort for the first time---how marvelous!!!:yay:

Be prepared to love it, and to NOT want to leave at all!

We visit several times a year, and feel this way every.single.time!::yes::

I hope everything goes as you would wish it to!:thumbsup2

Hi Syndrome!!!

Just wanted to add my best wishes to you and your family---grateful you are all safe!

Postponing your trip to Disneyland will just make it all the sweeter, if/when you actually DO decide to get back on a plane to come out west!:)

WOW How scary!!! This is the stuff that makes my bf not fly, I don't know if it would be possible or if you already cancelled but maybe you could leave a few days earlier and make a road trip out of it, We drive from MO I know you have a little further to go but I would be an awesome way to explore the US :)

So glad everyone is safe! I can understand why some of your family would be nervous about taking a longer flight out west. I'm a big believer in "things happen for a reason" so apparently this just wasn't your family's time to take the big DLR. I'm sure it's disappointing, but it will make your eventual trip to DLR even more special. I was a flight attendant for Delta once upon a time, and always felt so bad for the anxious/scared passengers. Hope you have a great July closer to home while savoring every minute with your loved ones!

RHMH Thank you!

We are planning on DCA on the 14th....DL on the 15th with Park Hopping on the 16th. With the 17th being Disneyland Parks birthday we are avoiding that park so we will do pools and PCH and explore the resorts.

On arrival day we will check out DTD and VGC.

I'm hoping a 3 Day Hopper is enough!

Going over Fourth of July... Seems like madness but were excited. Driving and staying in garden grove at the suites with a full kitchen.

Bob, we've added lunch at BB on the 8th. I wasn't going to spring for it but DH wanted to go ahead and book.

Alright!!! Sounds like a nice place to eat.. heard the atmosphere is neat and the food is really good. Got ya updated.
