~*~The OFFICIAL 2014 Dates Thread - Come Join Us!~*~

To those who plan on vacationing in Myrtle Beach, ENJOY!!! I live about 60 miles from MB and we go yearly, LOVE IT!! This past weekend I attempted to see which was cheaper (offsite vs onsite, DDP vs OOP). We decided booking a package and hoping for free dining was best for us. Taking in consideration the onsite transportation, gas, and did we really feel like having to leave the resort area for a midday break; and then return for the afternoon. Really we just love being inside Disney and enjoying all aspects of our trip. Next March cannot come fast enough!!!!!:yay:

Not long at all.

Leave the Windsor Hills gate and turn left. Go maybe 500 feet and turn right on 192. I think it's then 2 miles to the main Disney entrance. Park and head for the TTC!

We haven't been during a hectic time of year, so I'm sure there's more traffic in the summer and over holidays, but we're usually in the parking lot in 5-10 minutes.

Thanks for the reply! I have found a few places that I want DH to check out. I am still a bit torn about not staying on-site, but I know we'll have a great time and even get to do a few extra things with the money we will be saving.

Happy Anniversary! Sounds like a fun vacation! Hope the pixie dust followed you all the way to Jackson Hole. ;) pixiedust:

Thank you!! It was fun!

Have you seen this?

I found it on the disboards restaurant section under "dining plan"

It's a free spreadsheet. You put in how many people are going, how many nights you're staying, and the restaurants you plan to eat at.

It then calculates the cost of all the dining plans...and what's covered and what's not...or how much you'd spend out of pocket with no dining plan at all.

I put mine in for our May 2014 trip and it's cheaper for us to pay out of pocket than to get a dining plan. That surprised me because I had 3 character meals! Thought for sure we'd end up saving money with the DP. I stand corrected. ;)

It's a really cool spreadsheet!

Very cool ~ going to have to check that out! More than likely we will be off site, so no choice but to pay OOP, but the dining plan is a big draw for us, so it will be nice to compare, just in case we do stay on-site.

I think I am going to let everyone pick a meal ~ so 5 sit down meals. Should work out well, b/c we'll probably do 6-7 Disney days, and don't need a TS everyday. DH has already picked O'Hana! We didn't do Chef Mickey's last time, and my oldest keeps saying that is where she wants to go; I'm guessing my middle will pick CRT; which means I get to pick for myself and the baby, lol! I'm thinking Tusker House, but not sure what to do for the last meal. Open to suggestions! Maybe CP again?

Wow, I haven't checked the thread in a couple days, and it took off!! :) Think I caught up now!

Congrats!!!!! How incredibly cool! We looked into go this year for a quick trip, but it just wasn't in the budget...Branson here we come! :goodvibes

I just have to throw in my 2 cents with swagbucks. LOVE it!! Check it daily, it really adds up!

Happy anniversary!!:goodvibes

Thanks so much for doing all of that! I really appreciate it! :thumbsup2

I am so going to check that out today! Thanks for that!!!

We are busy planning a trip to Branson for this summer. We haven't been in years, and never with the kids. Closer to home and a little cheaper for us. We looked into WDW, but it was just too pricey. We are trying to really do our trip in Oct 2014 up as good as we can since it is a graduation present for DH (he is currently in year 2 of veterinary school!), so we decided to wait and save a bit so it can be even better then!

BTW, I love to see what everyone is planning. We want to do 2 character meals while we are there. CP is a must for me first thing one day...I want those nearly empty main street pictures!! We have done CM and Tusker House. Any recommendations?? Thanks!

I need a tutorial on swagbucks!!

What kind of characters are you looking for?? We loved Tusker House, it's a must now! CM is okay, for breakfast anyway. We have done CRT, Akershus; we did breakfast at O'hana; I liked that it was served family style, but I just thought the food was okay. Fun to meet Lilo and Stitch, though! A few years ago we did dinner at Grand Floridian (forgot the name, sorry!) ~ and we saw Cinderella, Prince Charming, Lady Tremaine and the step-sisters, it was a lot of fun and the character interaction was the best we've ever had!! Hmmm...maybe that will be one of our meals, too!

Can't get to this site. Won't load for me on my phone! :(

Thanks for the character meal suggestions...we have never tried Hollywood and Vine. Not sure if they kids will be into that by then. They love Jake, but they don't watch the others much. Ohana's...that sounds interesting! We may have to try that one!

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

Hi everyone. I'm still sorta new on the boards. But I am planning to go to WDW in April 2014 :) I am secretly saving and will surprise my kids hopefully at Christmas time 2013. It's so much fun planning! This will be my 2 younger kids first time ever at Disney.(DS 12/ DD 11) Planning staying at POP for prob 8 nights or so.

When is a good time to book just the hotel?

:welcome: to the group! A surprise trip? How fun! :goodvibes

If you're booking just the hotel and not a dining plan or any type of package, you can book 499 days in advance by calling WDW directly (407-W-DISNEY).

The boards can be a little overwhelming at first - so much information! But you'll get the hang of it. ::yes:: If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask.

I can't wait to play around with the spreadsheets - everyone is so amazing with all of this information. Bearcatsfan - thanks for starting a wonderful infomrational thred!

When we go we'll still be doing all the character dining too. This past trip we were going to skip CRT but as I was talking meals DD looked at me and said "we are going to eat in the castle again, right? " so that threw a loop into my planning but we tried dinner there - I loved my meal and I have a feeling we'll end up there again next year.
Hollywood & Vine was my favorite breakfast - they kids had fun but being 2 and 4 they are really into Disney Junior and Jake (DS's room is in Jake and he thinks he's a pirate half the time! lol). I also agree on Tusker House being great for breakfast - that's DH's favorite place to eat in all of WDW.

As much as we like the food at Akerhus and DD likes the princesses, we're thinking of broadening our horizons in Epcot and trying 1 or 2 other TS meals. i'd love to hear everyone's suggesions... :)

We really enjoyed Coral Reef at Epcot this year with an 18 month and 3year old. They enjoyed the aquarium. We enjoyed our food, and thought it was prepared very well and our server was fantastic. :)

Garden Grille has a nice spread for dinner. It's all you can eat family style of some well seasoned meats and yummy sides. Also, it has Chip n Dale and Mickey in farmers clothes.

You will hear a lot of conflicting reports about Tutto Italia. But we love it. The calamari is incredible. And my better half, LOVES the tiramasu.

I've heard Via Napoli has 'to die for' pizza!

Glad to have come across this thread - lots of great company planning a trip in 2014. We just booked yesterday (for January) - no codes or promo's or discounts but can always wait and see.

We are traveling with our daughter, her husband and our two granddaughters. This will be the second trip for our now 4 year old granddaughter and her sister will be making her maiden voyage at age 1 and 1/2.

:welcome: to the group! Glad you decided to join us! If you have questions about anything, jump on in and ask. ;)

Where are you staying and what are your dates so I can get you added to the list?

Character meals?

Do you have any kids who are into Disney Jr.? We did the Play & Dine at Hollywood & Vine last year at Hollywood Studios and it was a huge hit with our youngest! We're doing it again this year.

Jake from Jake & the Neverland Pirates, Secret Agent Oso, Handy Manny, and June from Little Einsteins is there.

You can go for breakfast or lunch and see the characters. We prefer the lunch buffet, simply because we're staying off-site and we eat our breakfasts in the townhouse before heading to the parks.

The three on our 2014 list are Crystal Palace (lunch), Hollywood & Vine (lunch), and Tusker House (breakfast).

Will save Chef Mickey's & Cape May Cafe for another trip later. I can get carried away with the character meals!! My dd has special needs and she ADORES the characters more than the rides! We have to stop at *every* character greeting spot. :)

Agree with the Hollywood and Vine Play and Dine. Granddaughter had the best time and the characters were interacting and dancing with the children, it was actually the most active character meal that we encountered. It is for sure a revisit for us next year.

I've heard Via Napoli has 'to die for' pizza!

YES! I am Italian and have never had such an incredible thin crust pizza and I have had my share of excellent pizza. The spaghetti and sauce - it brought tears to my daughters eyes (in a good way) she said it tasted so much like my mothers sauce and it brought back some happy (and sad since we all miss my mothers so much) memories.

Another spot we are heading back to next year :goodvibes

So glad that you had a wonderful time with your little one! Must have been so cute. How was the weather?

It will be our second time at Port Orleans French Quarter - we had connecting rooms in building 4 and it was PERFECT. Steps away from the Food Court for those quick mug refills and not far from bus stop. This was last January. We had planned to go last July (I know crazy, too hot) but my daughter found out she was expecting (surprise) and did not want to go to Disney with a 2 month old (although I have seen folks there with very young babies). When I called to change reservations and asked about the free dining since this was now an option person I spoke to said we would have to change resorts which we did not want to do so I did not do anything about changing the date. My daughter called back later and explained why we had to change the date and the person she talked to was WONDERFUL and applied the free dining for all of us!

Any hints to share that might be helpful with the 1.5yr old for us?
