~*~The OFFICIAL 2014 Dates Thread - Come Join Us!~*~

I wanted to do a BOG dinner... :sad1:

BOG dinner reservations are in high demand! I wasn't able to get one for our May trip.

BOG lunch is counter service -- if that helps! No reservations needed.

Otherwise cross your fingers. Have a little pixie dust! pixiedust:

Hi, I saw this thread & just had to pop in!! We originally had a trip planned for this past December with our rather large family.....but money became an issue & so we switched gears & headed to Disneyland instead. (we live in Oregon so cheaper travel).

I had planned, researched, had ADR's set, resort reservations, etc and then to have to cancel was gut wrenching......especially since we NEVER been to WDW!!! So after our family trip, my husband & I started discussing going in 2014 for our 30th anniversary. So we are looking at going either the last 2 weeks of January, the last week of January & the first week of February or the first 2 weeks of February. Opinions greatly appreciated!!!!!

We're hoping to do a split stay & do a week at POR and then a week at the POLY!!

We plan on coming..........alone........NO KIDS ALLOWED!!! :rotfl: :hyper: Excited just thinking about this possible trip!!! When we know if this is going to happen or make a deposit on our package, I will post dates & resorts!!!

I would suggest the first two weeks of February.

January is one of the huge travel times for the --- Brazilian Tour Groups -- :scared1:

December & January is summer in South America and hordes of unsupervised teenagers invade Disney in droves. They carry flags and chant and use up all the fastpasses. Then pretend they don't understand English when you point out that 30 of them just cut in front of you in line. :furious:

We considered the first 2 weeks of feb but were advised even though it's low time a lot of the rides are closed for refurbishment. So we opted for the last week of feb first week of march...

Wow!!!

This thread is quickly becoming a "December 2012" thread reunion. First me. Then SAT. Now you. I hope all is well.

:wave2: Hey, how are you??? How was your trip?? We ended up going to DL and had a great trip. Now looking forward to this one!!!

I would suggest the first two weeks of February.

I've heard about those groups....... Too bad Disney can't figure out how to deal with them so not to upset the other guests.

We knew that there would be things down.....but we want to avoid spring break crowds and thought we had read that it starts that early????? Our anniversary is actually St Patrick's Day....but no way are we going mid March. So we're just trying to find a good time to go......not get run over by the tour groups, but also have lower resort rates, possibly free dining & smaller crowds. Picky aren't I?? :lmao:

We went the first week in February 2 years ago and the only thing that was closed was Splash Mountain (which is normal over the winter) and both of the waterparks were closed (again normal over the winter).

We didn't miss them because it was our first family trip (1st trip for me, oldest son, and youngest daughter --- my hubby had been 25 years before when he was in college --- our oldest daughter and youngest son had been 2 years before with their grandmother)

There were SO many things to do! That first trip was overwhelming! I figured I was prepared for Disney because we'd had season passes to Busch Gardens for years. :lmao: :rotfl:

Uhhh..no comparison! I spent much of that first trip with my nose buried in a guide book or a park map.

If this is your first trip to Disney...you won't miss the one or two rides that may be closed...and most of those are water rides that you likely wouldn't want to ride in February. (During our trip only one day was it warm enough to go swimming -- I think it hit 75 that day...the rest of the trip, it was mostly in the 60s.)

And yes...I would avoid early March! We went the 1st week of March last year and it was college spring break week -- weather was warm but WOW it was crowded!

It also depends on when Easter falls...if Easter is in early April...probably the second or third week in March wouldn't be too bad. The worst weeks for Spring Break crowds is the 1st week of March and the 2 weeks before and after Easter.

For instance -- I know in 2014, college spring break week for most schools is March 1st through 9th. So avoid that week. Easter isn't until April 20th. So avoid all of April. As for March travel, you'd be fine with any dates in March from the 10th onward. March 15th through 22nd would be good and so would March 22nd through 29th.

Hoping to be there May/June in 2014! Hopefully staying for one week at the AoA, 2 weeks offsite in a villa, and then perhaps if i'm lucky head back onto disney property - wanting to stay at either POFQ, Yacht Club, Contemporary or Bay Lake Tower (in my dreams ;) )

Dates not decided as of yet though.

I guess it depends who you talk to. Here in Canada our spring break is the 2nd week of March. We had originally booked the last 2 weeks if Feb but then were alerted to president week. Lol can't win.
I will just end up doing Disney our first week there...which is last week of feb...lol

:welcome: to the group! Since you're doing an adults-only trip, I have some ideas for romantic stuff to do in Post#2 of this thread, if you're interested. ;)

I agree with hsmamainva - if you have the option of going January or February, I would go with February. ::yes:: Just do a search here for BTGs and you'll understand why. :faint:

:welcome: to the group! Glad you decided to join us!

Once you get your dates and other information figured out, please post it and I'll get you added to the list. ::yes::

Agree with the Port Orleans Resorts - esp French Quarter. We had stayed at the Polynesian when our children were young - many, many years ago when it was alot less expensive and there was not as many choices for resorts (or parks for that matter) PLUS being on the monorail was wonderful since our children were very young and it was great to head back to the resort for naps. We stayed off site a few times - not the SAME thing for sure. Tried the CBR and that was OK. When we went back last year with our daughter and her family she did a bit of research and we were torn between POR and POFQ. We decided on POFQ since it was smaller and we felt a bit less overwhelming for the 3 year old. It does not have as many of the amenities as POR but we were able to use the POR pool plus POR is just a short, relaxing water cab trip away as is DTD. Have not stayed at any of the other resorts but would love to hear folks opinions.

we are planning our next trip and are torn between POR and POFQ...leaning more to the FQ for size. we too have stayed at CBR-to us it was just too big even with my kids being older. just returned from a trip and stay at POP, we have sstayed at all the all-star resorts as well and are planning on Port this trip. POP wa fine, just a few issues that my DH cant get over and he refuses to stay there again:( the only drawback to the all stars is the shared busses and they get very full! Love the Polly, but the prices are a bit high for what it is(back before all teh choices of hotels, was a better price) I would love to go on an off season with just the DH and stay at the Deluxe but not sure he would go for it

Ugh I think I need to change my dates .... I hate planning. I'm not sure which 2 weeks to go now. If I go Feb 8-22 I'm coming back at the end of presidents week. Feb 15 to march 1 brings me back some march breaks. Ugh. I don't want to be paying through the nose for airfare
I have no clue what to do. I was all set for dates until someone alerted me to spring break first week of march... good that I know now though

POR is 1 of the larger resorts. But it also has 4 bus depots. In the morning, we'd always walk to the main building, get breakfast and catch the bus there to whatever park we were heading to. At the end of the day, if we still had steam, we'd get off at the main building and pick up our pics/purchases from the day at the gift shop and fill up our resort mugs. If we were too tired, we got off at the stop closest to our room.

Ok now I'm stressed and sad lol (and overdramatic) I'm not sure being there for the kids 5th birthday is worth spring break or president week....:-(

I would disagree that the 1st week in March is a bad week to go. Sure, there are some college spring breaks. But there are almost NO school district breaks. Most schools have just been off for either a winter break or at least a day for President's Day and don't have their spring breaks until at least the 2nd week in March. Disney is not a Primary college spring break destination but it is definitely a big one for those with younger kids. The weeks before and after Easter are definitely the worst as many schools (like ours) still tie Spring Break to Easter (and I think all parochial schools do!). But anywhere from the 2nd week in March through the 3rd week in April (or the 4th if Easter is super late) can be spring break time for K-12 districts.

We were also in Disney March 3rd-10th last year. There were crowds but it definitely wasn't horrible by ANY means. More crowded than early May (LOVE that time, wish we could still go then) but not super crowded. Very manageable. Especially if you'll be celebrating a birthday like we will be...don't avoid it!! We'll be returning March 1-8th in 2014! We did notice crowds increase a bit last year on Friday/Saturday before we left. All the crowd calendars indicate that weekend as the "start" of Spring Break season and I would agree.

We don't want to only do Disney but other things too. I want to take the kids to the beaches as well and of course shopping. ....

The beaches might be a bit more crowded. I still think first week of March is pretty safe unless you're going to Cancun or another college spring break place like that. (Not even sure where else they go these days!!)

If it were me, I would just be sure to avoid President's Day weekend. We have been several times in Janaury (including the last week twice) ~ tour groups never bothered us. I only noticed them once or twice. I would probably pick the last week of January and the first week of Feb. Oh, and we stayed at the Poly last time and loved it ~ have fun, try not to stress!

I agree with this, I wouldn't think the first week of March would be too affected by spring break crowds, so the last week of Feb and first week of march would be a good time, too!!

As far as our trip planning...originally we were planning 10 days, since we are saving by (more than likely staying off site) we are planning a day at SeaWorld and a day for DH and oldest DD at Universal. BUT, last night DH and I were talking and thinking maybe we would just do WDW, 5/6 days and then do a short (4?) day Disney cruise!! I'm excited, no clue what the cost break down would be. I know it will at least make our "cheaper" vacation closer to what we would be paying if we stayed Poly again..who knows! Anyone been on a disney cruise? Any advice ~ as far as how early we need to book to get the best deals? Or is it best to wait for last minute ones...

Information overload and stressed lol

Have you taken a look at any of the crowd calendars for the months you're considering? That might give you an idea of how the crowd levels are trending for this year (which will give you some idea of what they'll look like next year). Just a thought.

Don't stress! Vacation planning is supposed to be FUN! You'll get it all worked out. :flower3:
