The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

As for the post race party, are all F&W kiosks open? We've been perusing the menus and have out hearts set on trying a few things post race.

I'm wondering the same thing, and also what attractions will be open. DH and I have not tried the new Test Track so that is on our to-do list. I figure there's no need to waste a FP+ on it on a different day if we will get to do it on race night. I think Soarin would be really cool after the race too, to feel the air on your tired feet:goodvibes.

I think I might have pulled a muscle in my upper legs while flying yesterday. Not sure how I pulled that one off. Nothing really bad just more of an annoyance when getting up or down and sometimes moving.

Also a question for the ones who have done this before. Is there any good spots for Spectators to see runners on the course? Or is better for my Mom to find a spot near the start to see me off and then wait for me at the finish?

I am slated to run 11 miles this afternoon...feeling nervous. :scared:

Anyone else doing the 11 mile run on Galloway's "upright position" plan today?

I did 10.5...so didn't make it quite 11, but my training has been off for about 3 weeks. I really can't believe I made it as far as I did. I had to stop and sit down on a bench for about 5 minutes at about 9.75. I was frustrated because it was so warm and muggy despite being the end of September, but my time actually wasn't awful until the end when I really ran out of steam. I think I needed to be better hydrated and have more to eat. Anyway, it's done and I'm glad. I guess if I can go 10.5 now, then I should be able to finish 13.1 in 6 weeks. :woohoo:

My DH liked watching from just outside imagination. Then I met up with him outside the fountains before the bridge to world showcase. I haven't decided if I want him to come to the finish or not this year.

Went for my 11 with DH this morning. Things were actually going pretty well until mile 10 when my knee started getting sharp pains. I walked the last 1.5 miles. It is frustrating because a similar thing happened two weeks ago. Not sure what I need to stretch more, but highly annoyed with my sad knee right now.

Yes, I believe that most kiosks if not all kiosks are open. Also, most of the attractions are as well. Currently, I believe all are scheduled to be open.

We attended a F&W preview dinner in August and the S Korean Dimchi Dogs were the hit of the meal's appetizers.

Honestly, the start is a waste of time. There is limited to no space to watch from.

Spectating can easily occur along the Yacht and Beach Clubs as well as near the finish at Imagination. Other than that, no other spots.

This brings up a questions DH and I have had. Is the finish line actually inside Epcot or outside? If it is inside where in the park do you actually run?

Oops my bad, I was working off a lame memory unit... I should have been a little more complete.

Specifically, the course comes on stage on stage between Imagination and Land. It runs along the main path through Innoventions and under Spaceship Earth then out through a cast member exit behind the old Kennel. The actual finish line is in the tram way.

Oh wow! I hadn't seen that map before. Very cool! Thanks for sharing! So the race course does actually go through Epcot but ends out side. I may regret saying this but I can't wait to actually run this. ;)

Yes, it does look fun but miles 6-9 look kinda sucky. :crazy2: Hope there's lots of entertainment through there.

With regard to fun stuff breaking up the race, this one is my favorite of the runDisney courses. (I haven't done the full marathon yet - but I will in January!)

It's a few empty miles at the beginning then a fun few miles through Animal Kingdom - a few more boring miles - and then pretty much 8.8 to the end is all entertaining to push you through! I love that once you enter DHS, you go through that park, around the Epcot hotels, into Epcot, and then you're done. It's great!

Are the Christmas lights on in DHS?

10 mile race tomorrow morning. I'm going to play with my intervals tomorrow and try what I am thinking of doing for the half. I pushed my Thursday run too much this week both in distance and speed. I hope it doesn't effect me too much tomorrow

The Osborne lights will illuminate on November 8, the night before the race. I would expect all parks will have Christmas lighting up during the weekend.

Basically, from DAK, this was the old marathon finish with a couple slight modifications.

For me, this is not my favorite course in the area. I think my opinion might change if the race were in the light. I find DAK dark and frightful. In the sun, running on the faux mud trails is interesting; not seeing the irregularities just throws me off, especially with the elevation changes and the lower lighting levels..

Basically, the first mile is a leg stretcher followed by the left turn onto Osceola. Watch out for the folks cutting across course to grab a photo of the WWoS sign. The next 2 1/2 miles are relatively flat with a couple spots of entertainment. The relative part is a hats off to the two overpasses we run across. On the second, if the wind is right, you get a whiff of McD as you cross. We run up and into DAK through the main gate. Once in the park, step lively as the trail up to Discovery Island is a little narrow and up hill. After passing the Tree of Life, the park opens up, we turn Right at Africa and head to Asia and pass Everest. Another right and we pass Dinoland, off into he back stage area and in the the parking lot. We run the parking lot backwards. Careful as you approach the parking toll booths; each lane as an obnoxious speed bump. Since we are headed backwards, they are not painted well on the back sides. I do not believe I have run a single weekend that has a race going through a toll booth where I did not see a spill or at least the results of a spill on the bumps. There are audio cues, signs and volunteers the to warn.

The meat of the run is next, miles 4.8 through 9 are on the road again. The two areas of entertainment on the way over to AK are still there. Once we turn onto World Dr, there is no room for anything to set up, so keep focused ont he ToT sign in the median of the road, then the up ramp as you pass that and time will fly. I have to say if you like DHS, this is the race to run. There is no possible way to add much more of the park to a race. We run the park's length 4 times. From there it's Boardwalk, Yacht, Beach, Epcot and HOME.

Yeah!!!

Just finished my 10k race. huge PR for me 1:07:38 which I know isn't fast for many 10k racers but for this long slow runner, it felt like I was flying. Thank goodness for the downhills but holy moly I'm ready for a nice flat steady run thru the Disney parks! I love the wine and dine course- except the banked road on the way into animal kingdom. That felt like an eternity to me. Otherwise, I find the whole race rather cool. Especially the Osborne lights.

Thanks for all the pre-race advice coach. Was very helpful.
