The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

just stumbled upon this thread :)

My wife, 4 friends and myself will be running in November too! Just finalized our resort reservations at POR and our flight down!

We are very excited!!!

Welcome! Sounds like you have a great group to run with you. This is a very friendly and encouraging board. And I have found it to be a great place to get advice, tips, and motivation to keep training.

I'm in!!

This will be my first W&D and my second runDisney race. I did Princess 2012. My fiance is coming home from Afghanistan and we are doing the W&D together. This will be his first runDisney race AND his first trip to WDW. EEK!

Stephanie - Welcome to the W&D tread. How exciting you and your fiance are doing this together. My husband is coming with me on this trip, but not the race. I can get him to barely go for a walk around the black. :sad2::lmao:

3.5 miles this morning. I felt pretty good for my third running day in a row and would have pushed a little more distance if I didn't get such a late start. Best part of these morning runs, I've decided, is having my 2-year-old greet me with an enthusiastic hug when I come in the door afterwards. (That and the giant cup of ice water DH often has waiting on the counter for me.) Next up on the schedule is 5 miles on Saturday. Last week, this made me feel a little nervous but after three good runs, I'm feeling ready. I think others have said this before, I'm still learning to trust in my training plan.

What a great thing to come back home to! :cloud9: Great job on the runs. Those late starts stink. I woke up late on Tuesday and did not get to run, did a work out instead. You got this 5 miles. Just look what you have to come home too. :thumbsup2

I got my 3.2 in this morning, I did my inhaler, but had a hard time breathing for some reason this morning. Walked a bit more than I wanted to, But my average was still 11.21, so not too bad. I have an 11.6 mile run this weekend. It was a free/no fee race, so figured I would do it. Don't know what I was thinking. :scared1: I was only supposed to go 3 (following the marathon schedule). But next week would have been 7, so maybe I will only do 5. ;)

My Thursday 45 is done with my best magic mile time ever, by almost a minute! 11:09!! That for me is amazing! I typically pull off 13:00 and have occasionally achieved 12:00 but have never broken into the 11's!

Great job !!!! :)

New Shoes. I decided my toes were a sign it was time to go get new running shoes today. I was stupid when I bought my last pair and didn't go to a running store. He had me walk without shoes on first and said I was in the wrong type of shoe. He then asked if I had any pain issues and I mentioned my knees which I assumed was due to my arthritis. He asked where on my knees and I showed him the outside of my knee. He said that was due to my shoes. I was in an extreme stability shoe and should be in normal shoes so it was causing me to supernate. So I have new shoes. They are a bigger size and I could already feel it in my knees. I'm looking forward to trying them out tonight.

Awesome job! Congrats! :cool1::banana::thumbsup2:woohoo:

My last run was 3.25 miles on Sunday and we are leaving on a mini-vacation tomorrow for 4 days. So, knowing that I wouldn't be running for a while, I knew today would be a day for running. The weather was beautiful...partly cloudy skies, gentle breeze and 75 degrees. I wanted to set a goal of 10 miles or two hours of running:scared1:. My longest distance so far has been 8.1 miles and my longest time is under an hour and a half so I was setting myself up for failure:worried:.

I started out feeling terrible. I was winded already by the first mile, but I soon got over that hump and into my groove:hippie:. I did my 4/2 intervals consistently but had a minor hiccup. I had to walk a small distance (ran out of sidewalk for a bit on a 4-lane, 55 mph road and had to walk on a hill) and my interval timer went off and I lost track of what interval I was on. By the time I got back on track, I'd actually walked 3-4 minutes instead of 2:headache:.

I brought Gatorade chews with me and ate 2 every 30 minutes. I don't know if it did me any good, but it gave me something to look forward to at those intervals. I hit my inhaler 3 times total which did help quite a bit. When I hit mile 7, my legs were toast:sad1:. My knees hurt, my right calf/achilles was cramping up and my toes were sore. Other than that, I wasn't winded and I felt pretty decent so I pushed on. I hit my subdivision at mile 9 and made a decision...My body was so sore and achy, I really just wanted to go home. I'd already gone further and longer than I ever have, but I knew that I want/need to to 10 miles one of these days. I decided that since I already had 9 miles behind me, I would push myself to go one lap through the subdivision. It wasn't fast and it wasn't pretty, but doggone it....I DID IT:dance3::cheer2::yay:!!! I finished 10 miles in 2:12:14 which is a 13:14 pace. I'm not too thrilled with my pace since I was hoping to get 1/2 marathon time in under 13 minutes. I was hoping to keep under 13 minute miles for my distances up to 12 miles. On the other hand, like I told DH, I went 10 miles in about 2 hours 15 minutes and my goal for the half is 3 hours. This means I could have basically walked the final 3 miles and I'd have 45 minutes to do it:cool2:...That's totally doable!

What a great relief it is to get that 10-mile mark under my belt. My next goal is to try and make my regular runs 4-5 miles instead of the 3 I've been doing. The only thing I worry about is the amount of time it takes. I need to look for an hour to an hour and a half to run and that will be hard to do before work in the morning. It will be easy, though, once the kids are in school:cloud9:.

I got home, popped 800mg of ibuprofen, downed a Propel Zero and a 100-calorie protein shake and hopped on the computer to share with you guys:hug:. I hope everyone has a good run (or two or three!) this weekend. I'll be WAY up in the UP of Michigan, fishing with the DH and kids :fish: and visiting family.

It wasn't pretty but you did it!!!! Those extra miles are going to be tough but they will be SOOOO worth it come November!! Congratulations!

I'm bummed. I have too much work to do both packing and for work to get a run in tonight and tomorrow I will be working/on the road all day. I was looking forward to trying out my new shoes

Eek...I can't keep up with these threads :) Congrats to all with great runs and good luck to all as we move into the weekend! What's on the plan for the next couple days?

I'm doing 2.5mi tonight, then 5 tomorrow sometime.

Happy Friday all!! :cool1:

I've got a 10 mile race on Sunday that fits perfectly with my training for a full marathon in Oct. Brand new race on what looks to be an awesome course, so I am really excited about it. :cool1:

For those of you with the toenail problems...

Have you tried wearing double layer socks? I wear WrightSocks from Road Runner Sports. They're one sock, but made of two thin layers. One layer rides on your foot, the other layer slides with your shoe. Hence, no rubbing or movement against your toenails. Ever since I started wearing them? No black toenails!

Peachgreen - In Houston, and in my book, there's really no sense in running less than 3 miles. If you're gonna go through all the trouble and get dressed, hot, and sweaty (in 0.25 miles here!) you might as well make it worth your while. My short runs are all 5 miles now.

Oh meh gawd! I did an early morning run today :) I'm normally a night runner, 7 or 8 pm but its supposed to rain later today so I thought, if kristinrice can get up and run at 4:00am I can try and manage a 10am run. Oh lord, at mile 2 I thought " I should have had a second cup of coffee! " but I finished all 5 miles! I even ran 14:23 pace- I believe that's a personal best :) I pray for good weather for the next 14 or so weeks- these early morning runs are tough!

Good luck on your long runs this weekend!

Melinda
Oh yeah, I tried a Nathan hydration belt for about 2 minutes- not for me. I think I will continue to leave water in my car. I loop passed my car about every 2 miles so I think it will work fine as my " water station ".

Nice! Early am runs are most convenient for me BUT I have to start planning early to make them work. Great to hear about successes-it pushes me in a positive way to keep training.

Thanks for sharing! Good job on your distance... Be sure to let us know when you hit another length landmark. It is good to hear about successes! :)

Just wanted to pop in and say hi. :wave2: I'm training for 4 halfs this winter, Wine & Dine will be #1 of the 4. I ran PHM13 using the galloway method with a 5 min run/1 min walk interval throughout.

Now that training is ramping up for W&D I'm hoping to join in a bit more! Good luck on everyone's training.
