Have you tried Body Glide? I use the stuff for girls and I use it for every run anywhere I have rubbing to include my feet, ankles, inside of my arms and legs. No chaffing, ever. Love that stuff. :thumbsup2

I third body glide! In fact I used it last Saturday and was so impressed that I'm definitely going to be using it all summer!

Question on the after-party party: I'm going with my SIL and we were talking about it this weekend. I assumed that you would have to pay for the food at the kiosks, she assumed that it was included in the price of registration. Who was right? And along those lines, what type of after-race refreshment is available? Or is everyone so excited to get to the after-party that they just skip right through that?

Finally, any idea how many people are in each corral? Or how many people run?

I haven't run this race yet, but from what I understand it's a little bit of both - I believe the ticket include a $10 giftcard. Once the giftcard is spent, you pay for the rest.

I think your race bib include a *beverage* at the end (can of Budweiser or Bud Light :crazy2:, or a Coke...I see myself getting the Coke). Beyond that I'm not sure what else they have at the finish for runners, but I'd guess bananas, water, Powerade and the weird runDisney snackboxes (which include crackers, spreadable cheese, chocolate, etc. - assortment of things from sponsers) - this is based purely on what Disney has had at other races.

Question about the Finish Line Party for anyone else who has attended - Future World is open, correct? And where do runners enter the park after finishing the race? Trying to think of a good place to meet up with the husband for the party. :) Thanks!

Last year we entered right thru the regular park gates (be sure to have your party wristband ready or on). Yes, future world is open. Last years course entered behind imagination and ran thru that corridor, on the fountain side of spaceship earth and then out of Epcot thru a backstage area. Last year I had a meeting spot w dh set for right before the bridge to world showcase and it was easy to spot him. However I had to cross the runners on the course and I was not feeling well enuf to want to do that again this year. I'm planning to have him meet me on the leave a legacy side of space ship earth if the course stays the same. Two years ago the course didn't run thru Epcot at all so we will have to wait for the course map (unless it's out yet, I haven't checked).

As for kiosks- you pay. We got a gift card last year but it was only $10 so it depends on what you are planning to spend.

As for end of race food, the above poster was correct. Snack box, beer, water, bananas (I think). I remember wishing I had brought my own food bc I couldn't eat a lot of what they have us due to some food issues (whole wheat stuff, bananas- cant eat either)

Hope this helps!

Future World is open - I think we re-entered back through the main gate area. There were still runners on the course in Epcot though, so you may be stuck in a crowd waiting for race officials to "switch" the course (think railroad tracks switching). It is dark and crowded in Epcot, so I would pick somewhere really specific to meet up.

As others said, $10 gift card then you are on your own to purchase food. The after-race refreshment has varied a little the past few years. In 2011, runDisney promised beer and wine, but there was only beer as the free drink. In 2012, there were a few more options - I got a sangria in a pouch that looked like a Capri Sun. The snacks lately have been these sponsored snack boxes - not my favorite. Usually a trail mix or two, gourmet crackers, hummus, chocolate or a granola bar.

I can't remember the numbers of racers. I'm usually in C and the race as a whole has been more crowded each year I do it.

Perfect, thank you! :thumbsup2 My biggest concern is not being able to shower after the race. That's always a big motivator for me in finishing a long run/race: "Just x more miles and you'll get to shower/be clean/be dry!" :rotfl2: I know I'll enjoy the after-party more if I feel somewhat clean, so I'm going to have to do the best I can in a bathroom afterward and was hoping to meet the husband at a bathroom in Future World (in The Land maybe?). Thanks for the info! :)

Thank you! Right now I'm leaning toward the bathrooms in The Land so I can clean up and we can hop on Soarin'! :thumbsup2

I think I heard 14K runners started the race last year?? :confused3

I know exactly how you feel about showering. However, I was pleasantly surprised last year we had great weather and given that it was a night race I didn't feel quite as gross as usual!

I wear either the Nike Skapri or the SkirtSports capris with attached skirt. They're for summer weather, so I don't find them to be hotter than shorts and no chaffing.

I've been wearing a SkirtSports skirt but without the capris. Haven't had any issue until I started doing longer distances. Several other posters recommended body glide so definitely need to check that out. I'd like to try the Capri/skirt combo but need to look for a sale :)

Another vote for Body Glide! :thumbsup2 It helps a lot!

I'd also maybe look into a different kind of running skirt? Do the shorts on yours ride up? The only running skirts I like are Sparkle Skirts Sparkletechs...they are pricey but the shorts DO NOT MOVE, thus no chafing. Worth every penny, and the pockets are so fantastic that I don't even need to run with a fuel belt. I ran this year's WDW Marathon wearing one and was totally fine...the only places I had chafing were spots around my rib cage where my bra had slipped and I missed with the Body Glide. :(

I submitted a 10-mile time with an average pace of 12:00/mile for the Princess Half in 2011 and was placed in Corral C (with D, E and F behind me) and was incredibly shocked to be that high...I submitted a bit faster of a time (maybe 5 seconds/mile faster?) for the marathon in 2012 and was in D. It really depends on how many other people submit times, I think...so you never know where you'll be placed. If you aren't planning on running with your husband it sounds like corral placement will really be a benefit to him as well. You have plenty of time to send something to runDisney...:)

I saw the website for the sparkle skirts, they have some really cute ones! May have to make the investment. Do they ever go on sale?

That's a great point. I think I'm going to take this advice.

I'm hoping to really focus on getting on a training schedule in the coming weeks. Since my surgery, it's been a bit of a mental struggle for me, but isn't that so often the case? I managed to finish a 5K on my one and only recent run, so I'm confident that it's more of a mind over matter thing at this point. Positive energy!

Can I reach out for some pointers on everyone's stretching routines? What does a typical stretching routine look like for you? Any good recommendations on what I should include in my own?

Hope everyone is doing well on their own journeys!

When we first decided to do this race, I was really worried about this too. But the more I run, the less I really care. We did a race a few weeks ago and stuck around after to eat BBQ and drink beer and I honestly felt fine. Just remember that everyone else there is as smelly as you!

Still thinking about checking a small bag with some sundry items. We'll see.

I was kind of chilled after the race last year and glad to have some warmer clothes to put on afterwards, and i changed out of my sweaty running clothes. I think I threw in some deodorant or body spray in my bag too.

I did the 5k yesterday and managed to beat my PB by more than two full minutes, even with my sore hip that felt every step my left foot took! I was so excited to be under 40 minutes, when I saw the clock at the finish I RACED to the line and got 38:04!!! Slow by some standards, amazing by mine!!! Lol!

I did 6 miles last night!!! My longest so far. I was slow but I don't care because I did 6 MILES!!! This is the first time I feel like I can actual finish the half and/or not die immediately after. If I do die, you are all invited to my funeral at Cindy's Castle :)
I was surprised it really wasn't that hard!? My lungs held out great, my legs were good, I was like Wow, I can do this. I smiled all the way home. I stopped a mile 4ish and did some yoga stretching, not sore today, just a little stiff.
Before my run I spent about 3 hours at the Mall looking for Father's Day gifts. I wonder if that slow walking around warmed up my legs?

Happy training, Happy Fathers Day to all the dads out there and the single moms who pull double duty!
Melinda

Congrats Melinda! Great job!! :thumbsup2 :cool1:

Finished a 10k today! Wasn't a PR but the course has a TON of hills. Finished in 1:13 and change. Running the biggest loser 10k next month, hoping to get a good time to submit to Disney.

The point is you did it!! ;)

Help a newbie.... What reason(s) are there for DH and I to try and run a 10k in order to get a proof of time? I'm not referring to training or the benefit of experience. I mean, how will it help us on race day if we have a 10K time?

I didn't submit one last year and started in the last corral. I wasn't too worried about getting swept, but it seemed like it took FOREVER to get to the start line! And if you speed up at all, you're running into a lot of people walking all over the course, whereas I believe the further up you are, the more everyone is running (at least more often).

If you want to run,and are fast,it will get you in a front corral. The corrals are based on your finish time. If you think you will finish under 2:45, submit a time a 10K time. Not sure how bad Wine and Dine is,but for Princess it was much needed, major crowding.

It was pretty bad...:faint:

So I sat down with my chiro last week and we came up with a "Beat the ITBS" tx plan. We're going to start with four adjustments/massages and see where we're at in August. I also ordered a home TENS unit as well, so hopefully between the three, I'll be back to pain-free (or at leat minimal) in about a month.

Has anyone ever heard of biofeedback therapy? My friend's mother has had two sessions with the most amazing results. It sounds pretty sci-fi, but now she's off most of the 20 (yes, 20!) medications she was taking and feels great! May be a consideration if the tx plan doesn't work. But I have high hopes! :goodvibes

Yeah, I'm hoping it'll be cool-ish! The fact that the sun won't be out is a plus!

Like a PP said, pretty much never. And if they do it's normally $5 off or something. :( I have 3 and I love them...looking to get a 4th sometime in the next year. They're addicting!

Coming back from a medical issue is tough. Hang in there  I don't stretch as often as I should, but I do know that it's generally not good to do it BEFORE a run when your muscles aren't warmed up. Afterward is probably best. #4 and #6 on this page are ones that I use a lot...basically hamstring/butt stretches. That's where I need it the most.

I'm not concerned about what other people think about my stench...I'm more concerned about my own comfort. I've been running for 5 years now and have figured out that 1. I sweat a lot when I run :crazy2:, and 2. If I keep my sweaty running clothes on my sensitive skin will not be happy. I know I won't enjoy the after-party if I don't clean up a bit beforehand. So I'm just looking to probably clean up with Wet Ones or something and change into fresh clothes...and OOH...use some baby powder. That'll help too.

GREAT JOB!! :yay: Keep up the good work!
Never. But totally worth it!
AGREED! :thumbsup2 They have really wonderful customer service too...that definitely counts for something.

Haven't tried that therapy...I hope it helps you! ITBS is the worst. For me, foam rolling and strength training (specifically doing squats) help a lot.
Does anyone have a recommendation for a foam roller? There are so many choices I'm confused.
The Stick is nice because it's really portable and you can control how much pressure you use. I have this one (got it at the WDW Marathon expo last year!)

I also have one similar to this one from my local running store...it's good but I've found that the foam has sort of lost shape/resistance as I've used it more, so for me it wasn't the best long-term investment.

I recently got this one to replace the foam one, and while it's pricey, I feel like it'll last a good long time.

So right now I'm mostly using The Stick, but if I need it to be more intense I use the Grid. Good exercises for the foam roller here.

Glad you posted this. I need to use mine more! ::yes::

WOW!! What a great day today! I went out for a run with the sun shining, 65-degrees and a gentle breeze and I found my sweet spot:). I did my 1/2 Marathon trainer program which was supposed to be 55 minutes...5-minute warm-up walk, then run 4 minutes, walk 2 minutes and repeat 7 times, finishing with a 5-minute cool-down. Well, that did not go as planned. I got to the last 2 minute walk interval (almost 4 miles) and realized that I was not even out of breath! So, I reset the program and DID IT AGAIN!!:cool1: When I finally got home, I was a little out of breath (but still very comfortable) and I'd logged 8.03 miles:banana:. Even better is that I maintained a 12:28 pace for all 8 miles:goodvibes. My quads are a little sore and my knees were aching a little, but about 10 minutes after I got home, I took some ibuprofen and iced each knee for 20 minutes. I also made sure to do really good stretching before and after the run.

About a week ago, I was starting to get nervous. My training had fallen off track and I was having a lot of trouble getting motivated. In addition, my diet has been very bad lately so I've actually put on about 5 pounds. I was starting to get very worried that a 1/2 marathon was going to be out of reach, but after today, my faith is renewed!! I think I am back on track:banana:.
