DD10 and I did our 7th 5K of the year last night

. She asked if we could use the 3/2 intervals and I said sure. She is really into the duct tape crafts so I told her that if she could finish in under 39:00, I'd buy her a roll...under 38:00, two rolls...etc. Well, her running method is apparently better than mine because she beat me by at least 5 seconds

. (We didn't stick around to check the official time so I estimated it based on my Garmin time). *I* finished in 36:24 so I owe my daughter THREE rolls of tape

. I started with a 2-minute walk and then stuck to the 3/2 intervals and still managed to maintain an 11:42/mile pace. I thought that was crazy

since I have trouble staying that quick running 4/2. I thought for sure I'd be in the 12:30 range. DD would sprint ahead of me when the run interval would start...then she'd slow down and walk a bit...then she'd sprint ahead again when she heard me gaining on her. By the time I hit the walk intervals, she'd be way ahead of me. She would run fast for about 30 seconds, walk for about 45 seconds, and then run fast again. She did intervals, but they were short bursts with short rests in between. I guess whatever works for her, right? She wasn't winded or anything when she was done! She took off towards the playground to join her sister while we waited for our friends to finish.
Tomorrow, I am going to *try* for at least 10 miles again. I had DH take my intended route yesterday when he did his run so I could find out how far it is. He did most of the route, but then returned home along a different path. The part he did was 9.1 miles. If I take the trail home (through the subdivision), the total route will be about 11.5 miles

. I am nursing a bad toe (start of an ingrown toenail...tried to fix it and ripped the nail a little

) so I may have to cut the run short. I bought some padding and the 5K went without a problem so I'll have to wait and see how the longer distance feels.
We are still a little undecided on meals for race day. We both concur that we don't want to eat anything new or unfamiliar and we don't want to overeat. DH likes the idea of Garden Grill because it is "comfort" food...nothing to spicy or heavy. We have decided to eat somewhere in the Epcot/Boardwalk area so that we can use the shuttle from Epcot (or BWV) to the race start.
I was thinking about doing the Expo on early (10am) Friday morning. Now, I am wondering if we should just use Friday as a park day. Then, on Saturday, we can hit the Expo early (9am) and then head back to the resort for a nap around noon. That way, we can get back up around 4pm and head to Epcot for the evening. As a race newbie, is there any reason that we should make the Expo a priority on Friday instead of waiting for Saturday?? I know that some of the special items (NB shoes, DB bags, etc) can sell out early but those aren't in our budget anyways.
The fall weather is approaching and it is getting really fun to run

. The kids start school in a week so I will have plenty of time to really pile on the mileage. I'm still working towards 12 miles. I really don't want to go 13.1 before the race. I want this race to be my best time ever and that is a guarantee if it is the first time I do that distance

. I think 12.5 will be my limit before the race. Once I make that, I will be

! I've already tried to lengthen my short runs to at least 4 miles. I switched to running after work so that I am not on a deadline. Of course, I'll be running in the morning when the kids go to school, but I will still be able to go as far or as long as I want.
I hope y'all have a great weekend

.
