The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

I'm in, and staying at Pop Century. Last year I didn't do any training and drove home after about 2 hours of time catching my breath in the after hours Epcot party drinking water. :)

We haven't decided on a hotel yet! We usually stay at either Boardwalk, Poly, GF, or CR since we travel with small kiddos and they all have monorail and concierge. (Except BW of course, but that's out SWW hotel so we can walk to HS)

Any recommendations for W&D? We thought about doing Boardwalk so we can just walk to Epcot since its FWF.

Welcome! I didn't do any training for the Princess half and while I was able to finish in about 2 and a half hoursish, I was dying by the end haha. I flew home right after and stiffened up so much I could barely get off the plane! Sooo bad. I've definitely be training for this one!

Edit: just decided to stay at the Poly! It's our fave and since transport to the race is about the same everywhere we decided to just go with what makes us happy :)

I've read horror stories of the congestion in the general corrals and I want to stay out of it. Is the 2:45 (12:35 min/mi) pacing a hard line or is there room for improvement? My wife and I just ran a 10mi run this morning at 12:47min/mi. Would they take this for placement out of general? I'm already looking for a 10k to run to pace myself out of it. But if I don't, I was wondering if this would be good enough.

Idk about W&D but for the Princess Half we were in the last corral (since we didn't have any previous times) and it wasn't bad at all. We were in the front of the corral and everyone was so friendly and excited. We had a great time waiting to start and getting to know everyone.

As for the pacing, my mom was behind pace and still was allowed to finish and get a medal. The balloon pacers caught up at one point and tried to hurry everyone along but the impression I got was that as long as you were moving you didn't get picked up.

I'm curious if that will be the case at Wine and Dine. DH is nursing injury problems and struggling with run training. I know he can walk it, but pace may be an issue - staying ahead of that pace for the entire time. Especially if he is starting from the back. So my thought is that worst case scenario we run enough to keep him just ahead of those pacers.

Just ran a 5K. 9.41 minutes per mile. Slowed down a little at the end to help a friend finish. I am very happy with my time. My legs now refuse to move for an hour or so.

Need to figure out what my goal time should be for W&D.

I bet he can :) like I said, my mom and I did the Princess Half with NO training and both finished with medals. I think I finished ahead of pace just our of sheer fear that the pacers were going to get me! I abandoned my Mom at mile 8 when they started getting close and I booked it the rest of the way. Haha. However, my mom power walked the entire race.

I hope your DH's injury is better soon!

That is good news then! He broke a bone spur in his foot about ten days ago and is fighting plantar fasciitis. He is also about 65 pounds overweight and so every time he starts to try to do any amount of regular exercise he ends up with aches and pains. I know it is very frustrating for him, and ironically when we met HE was the runner an I never thought I would be able to do it.

Probably the best thing for him right now is to rest and heal up. I've had to take an entire month off from doing any cardio due to my hip bursitis, and chances are the reason why it got as bad as it did was due to me continuing to workout and run with the pain. I wish him much luck,I'm sure he can pull through!

Just finished an almost 5 miler. I'm running The Hospital Hill 10k on Saturday here in Kansas City and today was my last long run before.

I did great! Consistent sub-12:00 pace. Happy girl here!

We are flying and are trying to get info about Sanford (sfb) vs MCO. TIX are much cheaper to sfb but what about distance and getting to hotel? We are at Boardwalk. Any info would be helpful!

I've flown into Sanford multiple times. About 45 min drive- easy, no traffic. No magical express though- I have always done car rental from there.

Sanford is a very small airport with only a few gates, it's about a 40 minute drive from property and you would have to get a car or taxi to take you out there.

Sunday I did 4 miles run/walk and then finished it with a mile walk. I have asthma and boy were my lungs sore on Monday! I've been practicing my breathing techniques and haven't needed my inhaler during the run walks. Happily my lungs are back to normal today! That was the longest I have gone so far, I think I'll repeat it this weekend and give my lungs a chance to do better :)
Good luck to everyone in their pre-training or training!

Unfortunately I need to join those of you with injuries. I ran/walked 5 miles on Friday and since then my right knee has been really sore. It started on the outside of my knee which someone told me it is probably my IT tendon??. Then yesterday I was at the park with my kids and turned funny and tweaked my knee again, so now the whole thing is sore!! I'm hoping if I just take it easy for a couple days it will be fine. I hate getting out of my routine though.
