The Official 2013 Wine and Dine Half Marathon Thread

Tropical Wilds, I am so sorry about your Lyme's diagnosis. I hope your treatment is swift and successful.

Me- I got the shirt I think I will wear in the race (even though it isn't food or drink related.) It is this one from RawThreads:

It is really cute and very comfortable. I'm excited to wear it on Saturday for my training run :)

LOVE the new threads! :thumbsup2

Here's mine (front and back). :thumbsup2

Tropical - feel better! Sending good thoughts and lots of pixiedust: your way!

Thursday run done amidst my hip issue but somehow managed to pull off a 10:16 on my magic mile! I was dancing when I got back and found that out! Well, in my mind, anyway.....

Don't be shy about it! I'd be shouting it from the rooftops! :cool1:

Ran my second run in the new Sauconys and finding my feet are getting a little tingly. Thought I had the laces loose but maybe not enough yet. :confused3 Anyone else run into that? THE DH says it happens to him every time he runs. This isn't my first go around in this particular model shoe, just a new pair of them. Weird...:confused3

Also ran for the second time with the metronome AND my tunes this time. (Ipod died just as I headed out the door Tuesday night and had one of those super crappy runs!) Went much better than the first run, but still getting used to always landing on the same foot each time it beeps. I have it set pretty slow (86bpm) which has definitely slowed my runs way down, but I'm definitely not exhausted by the time I get back. Supposedly, if I increase the bpm by one each week, I'll increase my time without my body even realizing it and sooner or later, that elusive 2 hour finish time won't look so elusive. All I can say is we shall see.....:genie:

pixiedust: going out to everyone suffering :crutches: (myself included)! As long as we all :grouphug:, we'll get this bad boy done! :yay: :woohoo: :dance3:

Please take care when running with your music turned up. You need to make sure you are always aware of your surroundings for safety sake in both training runs and races.

I actually had to remove someone from a race course who had her music turned up so loud that she couldn't hear my instructions and kept turning the wrong way on the course. Long story short, she refused to comply with my requests to turn down the music or remove one earphone and after 3 times of trying to yell directions at her from less than 10 feet away I told her she was done for the day. Not my favorite race volunteer moment.

Even with your music loud, how can you be that clueless?? :confused3

I like to say that I turn up my music to drown out the sound of my slapping thighs.

Great 9 mile run this morning. Nice even 13:35 pace for the first 8 miles. We sped up for the last two miles to 12:30 average pace over those 2 miles.

Great job! We were out too this morning. DH went bright and early and finished his 10 miles at an average pace of 15:45, then I went out and did my 10 miles in 2:20 at an average pace of 14:07. Both of us a little slower than we would like, but given the status of aches, pains, and physio, we are both very happy! Let's go Saturday long runners!!

Another Saturday morning run done! I did 9.3 miles. First 6 miles I had a pace of 10.16. Then tummy was bothering me for a while and I ended up with a 10:41 for the whole run. Felt good to get out there though. Found a nice trail to do my training runs for the marathon in January. Feel like I will slacking with next weeks 4 miler! :lmao: Great job everyone! :thumbsup2

8 mile long run this morning. 10:30 pace but I was beat by the time I got home. I have got to start bringing water and fuel with me. Every week I complete my long run and think, "Next week I had better wear my water bottle." Then I get up and think I can eek out one more mile without water or chews and get super fatigued an hour into it. Today I started getting a little sick so I know it is imperative to bring the water along. I think I may have also gotten to the mileage on my long runs where I need to eat something before starting. I really prefer to head out on an empty stomach but a little food first will be good training for race night :-)

Sorry if this has been asked before, I did a search and couldn't find what I was looking for. Does anyone know what characters will be along the route? Thanks!

Someone posted about the characters on a Facebook group I belong to just last night (Team #runDisney). People were saying such characters were there as floats from the Electric Light Parade, Lumiere and Genie in Epcot and Wreck it Ralph (I NEED this picture) and Woody in DHS, Puppets from the Jingle Jungle parade, Chip and Dale, Goofy, Darth Vader, and then being able to run through the Osborne lights.

During my weekly runs I have been so slow and started to realize it was because I was going out on an empty stomach. Eating a little bit has made such a difference for me. On my off running days I work out and it does not bother me if I don't need before a work out, but I am finding I definitely need to eat before a run.

I was so excited yesterday I got my RunDisney hydration belt. I thought the bottles were going to be too small ( it comes with 2 6oz bottles), but I actually only used about 5 oz of one, but was so glad I had my belt. I was also able to keep my key and candy in the pocket. I tend to either take gummy bears or peppermint candies with me.

Facebook group link? Would love to join. I am on the Princess Facebook page and there has been tons of good info that has come up that has been great for my race prep.

You can either look up Team #runDisney and asked to be added, or I THINK I can add you. If you want to pm me your name I will try. It is a WONDERFUL group. There is so much information about Disney races and everyone's local races also. Very supportive group! :thumbsup2

For some unknown reason I had the brilliant idea that we should to the zoo in August in Houston after a 9 mile run today. I'm beat. The girls had fun playing in the snow for snow day and looking at the Lego animals that leave next week, but it was hot and my toes hurt. I need a nap.

Thanks! I just liked the page, if that is the one you were talking about :). I didn't see a post about characters after a brief glance so I will look more later. I think I want to take advantage of at least one character stop. Last race I was too nervous to stop. (Though, it turned out I had plenty of time :rolleyes1)

Oh no! I dragged myself to breakfast and out for errands after mine and that was too much so I can only imagine how bad a hot day at the zoo would have been. The Lego exhibit sounds really cool, though!

Speaking of toes/feet. Mine are pretty hideous. I'm very afraid of what they will look like by November and happy that fall is almost upon us so that I can cover them comfortably.

I said to a co-worker, "Sweater weather! I LOVE sweater weather, that means t-shirt running weather!" Everyone just stared at me.

DC's got tons of those clubs. Once I see a guy in teeny tiny shorts with legs the size of toothpicks I just keep moving. I did a 9 miler behind two guys and I was doing a 9:00 minute pace and at the end he says to me (as I look like I'm going to pass out), "Oh, don't worry about being slow! I'm injured so I needed to take it really easy." I think I found a niche for myself in the running community!

Who's thinking about costumes? Because I'm shopping labor day sales at Joann's looking for supplies so I need to start thinking...

Well, I'm channeling Belle for the half marathon. Wheeeee! She likes books. I like books. It works for me!

For the 5k that morning I'm running with my mom. She's bounding as Daisy and I'm Minnie. Not costumes, but just representing them.

I also want to rep the DIS boards since in having such a fun time on this thread!

Heat wave coming here in Michigan:beach:. For the next 8 days, the projected highs will be above 84 with several days in the 90's!

Kids started school today. I dropped them off at 8, ran an errand and took off on my run at 9. I tried new intervals today...8/4 with the goal of doing one set per mile to stay on a 12:00 pace. I finished 4.25 miles and my pace said 12:01:yay:...but I did walk for the first 2 minutes so I had an "extra" 1/2 walk interval at the beginning. I'm not disappointed at all. It is hot and humid out and I have had 3 LONG days of work this weekend so I am absolutely beat. On top of that, I haven't run since last Wednesday so it has been a long break.

Time to hit the shower, drop off the puppies at day care, get the kids from school and take them to Grandma's house, then off to work for the second half of my shift.

I got my butt out of bed at 6 and was out the door by 7 on Saturday for 10 miles @ 10:57. This is the first time all summer I've actually managed to get my long run done early and it was soooooo worth it - temps in the high 50s and a beautiful sunrise over the lake. Fantastic run! 19 miles total last week.

Almost inside the 2-month mark for the race!...:hyper:
