~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

I'm starting to get discouraged. My dates are 10/10 - 10/18... seems like the busiest week in October. I wish I hadn't booked my flights so early because I would have switched my dates for free dining, but with the flight penalties, it's just not worth it. :sad2:

I did what you did, although realized, too late, that on southwest, no change fees only difference in fare...

We are there 19-27....currently booked at Hilton bonnet creek. Rate is 194 all in after the stupid resort fees and taxes so not horrible but not fantastic.

My dates are October 18-22. I'm still hopeful that we will get something for this 2 week black out period.

I called yesterday, no PIN code attached to my name :(. I would really love to get a discount and be able to move from the Value resort to Moderate. But it seems unlikely that I will get anything that will save me enough to do so.

so some space came up for FD at all star music. I know the food court is closed but usually we only share breakfast so not a huge deal to walk over to the other two, depending on what building.

booked oct. 31-nov. 7. had to pay 350 bucks to change our 5 tickets.

this makes eating so much easier. with my in laws and mom, we just book the restaurants and then that's dealt with.

with my luck, I'll get a UOC for the blackout days...:confused3

We are coming October 27-31!!! We got free dining at the Beach Club. When I first called and made the reservations, I said the departure date would be the 30th. I have called every day since July 5 (after I realized my mistake!!!) I was being told there were no rooms available. Then I got the bright idea that maybe it WASN'T the rooms, but that FD was sold out!!! So, I called today and asked the lady to ignore my reservation and make one reservation for checking in on the 30th and departing on the 31st (making sure, of course, that the same room view was available, so that we didn't have to change rooms) and low and behold....I got a room!!:cool1: Now waiting to see if any discounts will come out to see if I can apply to that one night and then see if FD is better than a discount that may come......October at Disney is SOOOOO fun, I can't wait!!!!

We are visiting for the first time in late October at AOA in the Family Suites. I had been hoping for the FD but my TA couldn't get it for us. I kept checking every so often. I really hope they offer a Room Only discount. Otherwise I think I'l switch our reservation to Caribbean Beach.

I just called and tried to add tickets to my room only reservations. The CM told me not to add them at this time. She said wait until Aug. and watch for something to come out then. She was very sure something was coming out!

I'm in the same boat! Oct. 6-11. Free dining ends on the third. Just our luck, but we booked early because we are flying for Half of what we paid on our last trip. Guess one thing kinds balances out the other. Would still love to see a room discount come out for our dates though.

I feel the same....hoping for a room discount.;)

Does anyone know WHY this is such a busy week? :scratchin
We are planning from 12th-19th and there are NO discounts or deals offered. What is the deal?!:confused3

After having spent a lot of time planning a september trip, my family needs to switch to the first weekend in October (10/4) so I am joining the wait for a room only discount. We are FL residents and have APs. Based on previous years, it seems like some type of room only discount has been offered for this time, right?

I can understand a long weekend, but for the whole week? I am praying for some kind of discount. So far, nada! No free dining, no room discount. Ugh!:worried:

It's not so much Columbus Day but for us it is a fall break week from school. We have had fall break in our district for 20 years and need it since we start school the first week of August. Over the years many school districts have followed the trend of starting early and offering a fall break. You will also notice a lot of Canadians traveling during this time as our Columbus Day is their Thanksgiving holiday.

Thanks, good to know. I hope they offer discounts anyway. :goodvibes

I think typically the room only discounts for the bulk of the fall have come out in early August... We will have to wait and see :) Hoping for something for 10/19-10/25!

Yes, that's what it is for us too. We just moved into a new district with a fall break and thought, what a great time to do Disney! Well, I guess we're not unique there. I'm hoping the crowds won't be as bad as summer time, but I guess there's really no good time to do Disney when you have kids in school. At least the weather will be pleasant.

Gah! I hope she's right. Crossing my fingers for some sort of discount for 10/19-10/26!

We picked the following week for this very reason (we're Canadian). Do some US schools also have a fall break the week of Oct 19th?

It is a great time to go. The resorts and restaurants are packed but the rides are no where near summer, . For the majority, most fall breakers stay on property and in the summer, Christmas, and spring break you have tons of day guests staying off property. This will be our last fall break with kids, our youngest DD will be a senior this year and college doesn't have fall break. Guess DH and I may finally take a kid free trip. Haven't been on a trip with just us since our honeymoon, 23 years ago:(
