~*~*~The Oct 2014 waiting patiently (or not so) for a discount thread ~*~*~

Question about discounts as first time going to DW. Are Dining discounts tied to resort discounts. i.e. if these are the dates for FD, then are these likely the dates for any resort discounts? We are coming Oct 19th so miss the FD discount

No, they are different. Room discounts typically cover more dates, but they only apply to the dates included in the offer, with the rest at rack rate. Room discounts do not typically get leaked like FD dates do.

Thanks for explaining. Well, fingers crossed there is some kind of room discount then...since we don't make the dining discount. DW is so expensive that anything would help.

I chose Oct 1-8 because Touringplans had projected low crowd levels (3&4's) and hoping to catch free dining. Happy to see our dates included, but now am starting to wonder about crowds. What does everyone think? This is our first time going in October. I know TOT races are over the weekend and we are avoiding DHS those days. I had no problems getting the ADRs I wanted and a great time for BBB @ MK. Thoughts?

Just as an FYI for anyone interested -

Oct 25-28 there is a huge convention in Orlando for the IACP. The projected number of attendees, according to the Orlando Convention Center, is 22,000. Multiply that number times family members (say 4 per family) and that's an extra 88,000 people during that week :worried:

Thanks.

Since we have a good idea that most of October won't be covered for FD does that mean we also have a limited chance of RO discounts? We have never used the dining plan and weren't planning on it this trip but were hoping for a RO discount. This is the farthest out that we have planned usually it's only a few months in advance and we have been able to take advantage of a room discount those last few times. Not sure if the FD and RO discounts usually go hand in hand. Sorry if this has already been answered on this thread.

We went in Oct for the first time last year and thought the crowd levels were great. Oct 3-12 2013. This was also during the ToT run, but did not notice any crowd issues with this run. We went to DS on the ToT run day in the AM and noticed very small crowds as the park closed at 5:00.

MNSSHP was crowded for parades, shows and character meet and greets. The rides lines were very small and trick or treat lines were small.

I booked our ADR's as soon as possible and had no problems.

Food and Wine festival is going on at this time, so EPCOT WS will be more crowded, especially on Fri/Sat nights. Sat night was wall to wall people at WS.

Over all I loved going in Oct. The crowds were great and weather was so nice.

Ooh, an October thread! Looking to go October 3-11 or 12. The kids actually have a break from the 4th-18th but I don't want to miss out on my first opportunity for free dining! I can't wait to see what the official dates are!

Quick note - I noticed today that the Yacht Club is totally booked for the week of Oct. 19th, so I'm *thinking* it's unlikely that YC or BC will have any discounts in the offer when it comes out.

I saw that too. BC only has Lv. Only BWI has rooms so it's not looking good :sad2:

Wow, I hadn't seen that! That is when we are going (staying at BWI). Is something going on at the BC/YC at that time or is this general F&WF busy-ness? Although I'll be slightly crestfallen if I end up having to pay rack rate, I don't regret booking my standard BWI room already because that's where we really want to be for our F&WF days and I'd hate to wait and not get it at all.:goodvibes

Wow, what is going on the week of October 19th ??? We are coming in on the 22 nod, and I wondered earlier what was going on that week because there is no FD.

YC is sold out the week of Oct. 26 too...and those dates got free dining :confused3...Dec. 23 check-in people also got free dining, and MK frequently hits capacity that day. There is no rhyme or reason...

Me too. I already have my reservations for July with the 25% off room and free park hopper but was praying disney would change it up this year and give us some free dining in July .. Daughter starts college this fall so can't change dates .. Also port Orleans is excluded which is a big bummer !!! That's where your savings is . Getting the sit down meal per day just by spending an extra 20 bucks a day more for a room at a moderate resort .

I'm really disappointed with the lack of Free Dining for October.:sad1: But I guess I shouldn't be complaining too much as the room I have right now was booked with a bounceback code.
