Have any of you fine folk ever read any of Patrick O'Brians Jack Aubrey/Stephen Maturin novels?

I haven't heard of them? Are they big in the US?

Kazzie,

Patrick O'Brian wrote 20 novels over a span of many years, centered on the adventures of Captain Jack Aubrey, RN and Dr. Stephen Maturin, his surgeon, Intelligence agent, and particular friend. The novels take place in varying parts of the world during the Napoleonic wars.

They are exceptionally well written, interesting from from a historical point of view, and at times incredibly funny. I recommend them to anyone.

Russell Crowe has been cast to play Jack Aubrey in the movie based on the first novel in the series. "Master and Commander: The Far Side of The World" opens in June, here in the US>

If you are at all inclined, I think you would really enjoy these books.
