The not so live version of dining w/ Disers, in Castles & on Safari! The Wrap! 2/26

I love your tea time review! All the sandwiches look amazing and I know how much you love pb&j. Onto the desserts, what a presentation. We decided today to go to WDW and not DL in Dec and I am so booking afternoon tea for my MIL and I. Being Aussie she is going to love it and your review has sealed the deal for me!

Tea time looks awesome! I can't wait until my daughter is old enough to go. I think I would love this. I love tea!

Glad you enjoyed Columbia Harbour House! It's our favourite CS spot for lunch while in the MK. I almost always get the Anchors Aweigh sandwich which is a simple tuna salad with lettuce and tomato on toasted multigrain bread but it is soooo good! I usually sub apple slices for the chips but after reading your review, I'm seeing the error of my ways. ;) I've never tried the Lighthouse sandwich but always thought it looked interesting. Sorry Em didn't enjoy hers. :(

Nancy and I loved our tea at the Grand Floridian in 2011! I'm hoping to talk DH into going this year. He'd probably sub PB&J or ham and cheese for all the sandwiches though. He's not really a "fancy finger sandwich" kinda guy. Your tea selection sounds lovely, we tried the Eros tea when we were there. It tastes like a warm creamsicle and was amazing. I love how they serve the strawberries and cream now, so pretty!!

Thanks for more great reviews! :goodvibes

After reading several reviews for Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian’s Garden View Lounge we finally booked an afternoon of mother daughter tea time. What really compelled me to try this was two of the dining boards regulars – Jabead (Barb) who had done the tea a couple times with her daughters and Smile4stamps (Paula) who had enjoyed tea with her husband. If her hubby could look very cool with his pinkie up at tea, I thought we could pull this off too.

My husband would love this tea. :goodvibes
One year our Christmas office party was at the high tea at the Drake Hotel in downtown Chicago. It was a very fun experience. But I just couldn't understand why people liked scones so much. They seemed rather dull to me. :confused3

I LOVE afternoon tea!! I've never even heard about it till last year and now I've gone three times!! Hunter has gone twice! So hard to believe that!! He's a hoot to have at tea lol. Somehow I think he would appreciate not going the next trip though lol.

The theming gets a gold start for sure! Wow! Tell me what you really think of BoG. :rotfl2: I think we're on the same page. However, you got my interest with the cheese plate. That sounds hard to mess up. :)
I guess, I was a bit harsh but I was on vacation in Hawaii when I made the BOG reservations so I was online at midnight making reservations but the system was having issues and it took me until 3 am to get all my reservations for our Thanksgiving trip. So my expectations were super high. I'll have to try the cupcakes next time. I love the tea review. We have afternoon tea at home frequently as well at WDW. The only difference is at home it is a meal ;-)

I wish I would have thought to sub the salmon sandwich for pb&j!!! :thumbsup2

Trying to catch up on threads today and I am sorry to hear you didn't enjoy your BOG dinner. I think I am about the only one who has really enjoyed their meal there. I had the, what was it, thyme pork chop. It was so juicy, tender and delicious that I would definitely go back. However, my DH had the scallop and shrimp dish and didn't like it at all. And I agree the ambience of the place is over the top. Like stepping right into the movie.

Now, back to catch up!

What in the world???? I was 100% sure that I had caught up on here yesterday in my Catch Up on Reports Frenzy. But apparently, I did not! :scared1: So here goes!!!

The Garden View Lounge tea time is one of those things that I just MUST do with my DD! I loved reading about your experience there. Everything looks tasty and oh-so-fun. I think DD would love this! The strawberries and cream!!! So beautiful - I want some right now…..

The tea looks so good! I love traditional English afternoon tea! It is definitely on my must do list for the future.

I have never had tea at GF but the lemon curd from Trader Joe's is pretty good. Have you had it?

Haven't done tea at the Grand in probably 4-5 years. I remember disliking the pear & gorgonzola sandwich (for one reason - gorgonzola!). Everything else was great, though. After seeing so many positive reviews of GF's afternoon tea over the past few months, I'd really like to repeat it sometime - the lemon curd sounds especially delicious. :goodvibes

I am so glad that you enjoyed your Afternoon Tea experience. This is something that I've been wanting to do with my eldest DD (almost 17) for some time. It appears to be a great mother/daughter activity and is at the top of my MUST DOs.

One of these days I'm hoping my youngest DD (16 months) will be able to do one of the little girl teas. I HOPE that she enjoys everything Disney as much as myself and my eldest DD or we are going to have a big problem!!...lol She slept through the majority of her very first trip to WDW so the jury is still out as to whether she likes it or not.

Day 12: Tuesday August 27, 2013 - Garden View Lounge Afternoon Tea

After reading several reviews for Afternoon Tea at the Grand Floridian’s Garden View Lounge we finally booked an afternoon of mother daughter tea time. What really compelled me to try this was two of the dining boards regulars – Jabead (Barb) who had done the tea a couple times with her daughters and Smile4stamps (Paula) who had enjoyed tea with her husband. If her hubby could look very cool with his pinkie up at tea, I thought we could pull this off too.

I will say this up front – It was awesome. Being the proper ladies that we are of course we fit right in.

I'm so glad that you and Em finally got to experience Afternoon Tea at the GVL and that you enjoyed it so much. I have such fond memories from the many mother/daughter teas which I've had there. Though I did make my DH have tea with me during our 25th Anniversary trip, it just wasn't quite the same. Maybe if he had been a "proper" gentleman like Hunter and kept his pinkie in the air, it would have been more fun. ;)

Since I was seated at another table, I didn't get to see if he reenacted this during our December tea. Now I can't wait for our review to find out if it happened and if anyone caught it on film...uhh, I mean memory card or iPhone. ;)

I can eat fries but only have about 5. LOL. Maybe we will share if we go. 
I love the tea. The cucumber sandwich is really good. I couldn’t eat any last time and they accommodated me so nicely. This is what they brought out to me when I said I could not have bread. It was delicious and I cannot say how nice the waiter and manager were to me.

The first pics of the lounge (after you ate) is where we sat last month.
Great update and pics.

How fun!! This looks so relaxing too, which sometimes you totally need on a wdw vacation. I love tea, so it just seems perfect. Add this one to my long list of places to visit! Thank you for sharing!

Your tea time looks fantastic! It's on my Disney bucket list. I need to find a way to black mail Rob into doing this with me next trip.

The strawberries and cream look lovely. I think I would have to try those. Your tea sounds really good too. I think that's the type of tea I would try as well.

Good for you for getting the pb&j! There is no better way to transport yourself back to childhood like eating a pb&j. Especially with the crusts cut off. :thumbsup2

Fantastic update!
Hi Jeri! I'm not above blackmailing or bribery. In this instance I didn't have to use it.

I'm not a tea expert so I had to be coached on which selection would be good. This one was very nice.

I agree, those tiny little pb&j sandwiches are just like being a kid.

Tea is a must do for me! I love the lemon curd too! I heard that this is the second recipe....the Austrian pastry chef tried the first one and thought it was awful so he gave them his grandmother's recipe. I think it's a winner!

Jill in CO

I want to hug that pastry chef's grandmother! It was awesome! I almost want to substitute a second scone for the tart so I can have more lemon curd. :)

Love this update! Afternoon Tea has been on my radar for awhile now... I really want to do it after seeing all your great photos! It's only fitting when I go that I order Mrs. Potts tea :)

Ha ha!! Very appropriate! Yes, you would have to order the kid's tea. Keep this place on your radar.

I can't wait until DD is old enough to go to tea at the GF with me! It always looks so lovely and relaxing in the reviews. And I happen to be one of those people that occasionally brings pb&j with me to work because it's still one of my favorite lunch items.

It's a great mother/daughter activity Jill. Speaking of PB&J, I had one of those Smuckers Uncrustable PB&Js this evening. Yum! You definitely don't outgrow PB&J. ;)

Tea time with Emily looks absolutely lovely. Unfortunately, I don't drink tea, but Mary and I are thinking of taking the girls there one afternoon...we thought they would get a kick out of it.

You can always get a cocktail from the bar if you really don't want tea. Not sure if they adjust the package price but I did order something from the bar along with the tea. It really is a nice ladies activity.

Thanks Lori. We did the GF tea last month with our dining buddies and it was so lovely with the GF decorated for Christmas. It sounds like a great activity to plan with your MIL for December. I'm so tempted to book a December trip again now that I know how wonderful it is during the holidays. :goodvibes

If you love tea you should definitely do this. And even better to look forward to doing it with your DD.

You eat far too healthy for Disney! Have some chips! :lmao:

The tea is a great sister activity! I don't picture my DH ever going to tea with me. Isn't that strawberries and cream lovely? And tasty too!

My husband would love this tea. :goodvibes

Ahhh the Drake hotel I'm familiar with that hotel. What an awesome place to have tea! I love scones! I'm picky about them though. They can't be the horrid dry kind.

I LOVE afternoon tea!! I've never even heard about it till last year and now I've gone three times!! Hunter has gone twice! So hard to believe that!! He's a hoot to have at tea lol. Somehow I think he would appreciate not going the next trip though lol.

And I have a photo of Hunter with his pinkie up at tea! Michael will not allow that on our dining line up. :rolleyes1 Too bad. I'd love to see him and Hunter at tea together.

Wow! That's some effort to get a reservation! The cupcakes will hopefully make any meal better there. :) I like hot tea at the holiday time since I like a ginger spice blend otherwise I'm only an occasional tea drinker.

Do you have little sandwiches when you have tea at home? Oh, and scones. I wouldn't mind having those with lemon curd for dinner. (I had to fix my typo that said lemon crud. oops!)

I wish I would have thought to sub the salmon sandwich for pb&j!!! :thumbsup2

It's good to know that you can really substitute any of their sandwiches. I think I heard about the ability to sub here on the dining boards. Wish I could recall who to give credit to.

Now, back to catch up!

At least you had a great experience with your entrée. I'm trying lunch at BoG next time! I'm hoping for a great lunch. The desserts are always awesome so they get credit for that.

No worries Roni! :) I can picture you and Willow at tea. Oh, they also have the princess tea for which they give the girls a princess doll and I forget what else.

Happy counting down for your trip next week. :thumbsup2

The tea looks so good! I love traditional English afternoon tea! It is definitely on my must do list for the future.
This was the first tea we'd done and I loved it enough to return on our December trip. I'm a fan for sure!

I have never had tea at GF but the lemon curd from Trader Joe's is pretty good. Have you had it?

Why I didn't know that! I need to find some good scones so it is worthy of the lemon curd. And I happen to have a TJ in my town. Thanks for the head up.

Haven't done tea at the Grand in probably 4-5 years. I remember disliking the pear & gorgonzola sandwich (for one reason - gorgonzola!). Everything else was great, though. Mr. DDW! Yeah..... I do recall the blue cheese aversion and such. You poor guy, you don't know what you're missing. :lmao: You'd have to sub another sandwich if you went. And yes, that lemon curd is amazingness in a dish.

I am so glad that you enjoyed your Afternoon Tea experience. This is something that I've been wanting to do with my eldest DD (almost 17) for some time. It appears to be a great mother/daughter activity and is at the top of my MUST DOs.

Your 16 yr old is the perfect age for tea with mom!! I highly recommend it.

I think you are grooming your little one well. If she's surrounded by love of Disney that should hopefully guarantee a princess in training. :)

I'm so glad that you and Em finally got to experience Afternoon Tea at the GVL and that you enjoyed it so much. I have such fond memories from the many mother/daughter teas which I've had there. That's a great photo of Hunter! I have a similar one from December that I'm hanging onto for the appointed time. :rolleyes1

You definitely influenced my choices for a few things including tea. I'm so glad that we tried it.

I can eat fries but only have about 5. LOL. Maybe we will share if we go. 

Great update and pics.

Oh man, you would need to share fries since 5 is only a teaser!

Whoa! What? That's an amazing substitute for bread. And so pretty too.

I've wanted to sit at the little couches with the table. It looks very comfy.

How fun!! This looks so relaxing too, which sometimes you totally need on a wdw vacation. I love tea, so it just seems perfect. Add this one to my long list of places to visit! Thank you for sharing!

It really was Jennifer! Perhaps Richard will accompany you and lift a pinkie as well. ;)

Loving the reviews! Keep them coming!

Thank you lizzyb! I have a couple more days of meals to post so you are in luck for the short term! popcorn::

Glad you loved tea at the GF! It's one of my favorites. The lemon curd wasn't offered when we were there - reason to go back! I love the presentation of the strawberries and cream. Yum~
