THIS WAS MY FAVOURITE DAY!!! CAN YOU TELL?
Mon 5 June High of 92
Woke up at around 5:30 today, think we slept too much last night!! The usual cereal for breakfast. We took a taxi (town and country taxis) to Discovery Cove cost $12. We were checked in, had our group photo taken, passes given and a dolphin swim time slot of 08:50.

By the time we got our vests and snorkels and were shown to the lockers to get changed and sun creamed up it was nearly time to go for the swim. DH positioned himself on the beach in a good spot for videoing, as he was not doing the swim. DS and myself then went to the seahorse cabana where we watched a short film about dolphins and the trainers gave some tips on how to interact with the dolphins. Then we were divided into groups and taken to the water.

There were 3 families in our group (2 lots of 2 and a group of 4) once we were in the water that was freezing by the way! We introduced ourselves and then it was time to meet our dolphin.

Our dolphin was called Niya and she was 4 years old. She was beautiful, the trainer got us to all stand in a line and we all stroked her as she went by. She felt so smooth! They likened a dolphin to feeling like a hard boiled egg with no shell and it’s a pretty good description!!! We then got to step forward on our own and give Niya a kiss (my god I kissed a fish…well a mammal!) We gave a few hand signals for her to do a few tricks; she waved, danced, jumped and made pumping noises!!

Then it was time to go in deeper water for Niya to pull us back. I was a bit nervous about this; although I love dolphins I’ve seen how fast they can swim! There was nothing to worry about, she was so strong and as soon as I had my turn, I wanted to do it again! After our group all had a turn the trainers got Niya to perform more tricks. DS had to make hand movements as if he was fishing and had caught a fish and Niya made clicking noises to sound like a reel being reeled in! Another member of our group did a karate chop and Niya copied! Our time with Niya was coming to an end and for a finale all the groups gave the same signal to their dolphins and shouted ‘go dolphins’ the dolphins all grouped together and al jumped into the air a couple of times! This was the real emotional moment for me, as I knew it was coming to an end. When it was over we went to view the pictures, you can probably guess I got a cd and dvd (well it is a special thing!) plus DH said on the way by he didn’t do very well with the filming, he couldn’t keep up with Niya!

By now it was 10:15 so we went to get breakfast. This consisted of pastries and cakes, coffee and juice (not really my thing but I had a coffee and a cake). Off we went to the snorkelling pools. DS was the only one of us that could snorkel; it didn’t take long to get the hang of though. This was fantastic, swimming along with all different kinds of fish and rays that came quite close to you. We spent quite a bit of time doing this as it was so good, then we went for lunch. DS and I had a burger and fries; DH had chicken with mashed potatoes and veg (he loved the chicken but wasn’t too keen on the rest). After lunch we went back to sun loungers and DS and I went off down the tropical river. This was good, it had a slight current that gently carried you round. There was a waterfall to go under which brought you into the aviary and another waterfall to go out. Underwater you could see big clay urns and a cannon (hardly stopped snorkelling all day!). DS had caught the sun on his shoulders so we thought we would call it a day. We went and got showered and changed (facilities are excellent) and I bought a T-shirt $19 inc tax, settled our bill for dvd and cd and checked out. Got a taxi back to our hotel (mears) $8+$2 tip.
