Someone please tell me this is a phase because I am honestly starting to feel like my baby hates me No matter what I do it seems like he is unhappy unless he's sleeping or eating. I hope this changes soon cause it's starting to drive me nuts

Yes, your baby loves you. So much, in fact, that he wants you to hold him 24/7. I have had some luck at night with a fan for white noise and a baby positioner. I also don't use it so much to keep her on her back as to feel like she is cozy. And for a little gal who kicks and squirms so much, she also really likes being swaddled when she is sleepy. My oldest child actually screamed a lot more than Alexis (she had colic), so I'm not sure why I'm even complaining about her. It's just an adjustment, both for you and for Jacob. It will pass, I promise.

I think we are dealing with the same child Jacob SCREAMS bloody murder if he gets put down. He's fine if someone is holding him but otherwise he's just super grumpy and unhappy. I feel like I'm doing something wrong Last night he was already asleep but the second I lay him in his bassinet he started wailing. I know they say it's okay to let the baby cry but he has this blood curdling scream and I would be keeping the whole house up if I let him carry on like that! I had to sleep on the recliner last night because the only way he would stay quiet was if he was in my arms.

We went through this with Luca. Turns out he had acid reflux really bad. He had to take medicine and you need to keep them upright for an hour or so after eating. Don't give up hope, things will get better. Remember, if you are getting too frustrated over the crying, it's better to put him down and walk away for a few minutes to calm yourself down, even if they are screaming. So, I'm signing my oldest up for preschool tomorrow (a little late ) and I'm very excited for him, but sad at the same time. How did you all get through it?

Patsy, I'm glad to hear Lucas test results were normal! That must be such a relief for you. Good luck on your KMart excursion today! I am going to try making a trip to Target to pick up a few things as well. Hopefully Jake will be okay. He seems to like being in the car and in the travel system and it usually keeps him calm. We'll see!

I hope Jake starts to calm down soon for you. I know Lucas drives me crazy when he's crying. I just want to ask him what on earth is wrong but sadly won't be getting an answer. Feel free to vent anytime you need to!!

Dog and kitty made out on the KMart excursion... I got more dog treats than anything else.

I've used my pink one dozens of times, whenever we have company, or I'm at my mom's house, or at church (even though I go to another room and I'm by myself, I still cover up!). That is a good idea. I bought one a LONG time ago with DS1 and it wasn't long enough at all. I felt like my back and sides were hanging out. But they are cheap enough to try and a bonus of the band and pads. I usually always remember which side, but lately he eats so often I have to think about which way we were sitting! Yes, I cover up too. I've gotten better about nursing in public. I used to try and hide and be totally alone. But now that I've gotten a little more skilled, I don't care where we are!

With my older kids, I was the same way. I would never nurse in the same room with anyone-I always went to a bedroom. But with Katie, I whip out the uddercover and nurse anywhere!

We went to an upscale bowling alley tonight for a birthday party (you know, not the place your dad would bowl, swanky chairs, etc.) and I found a perfect chair I wanted to steal. Very comfy and with high sides to rest my arm on. I even looked under it for a tag, but no luck. I thought, maybe... I could bust out of here with this chair and no one would notice.

Thank you SO much to everyone that responded with advice! I wrote down all of your suggestions to keep for future reference. Of course, after all my complaining yesterday Jake made me eat my words and actually slept really well last night. Not that I minded He only woke up 3 times so I feel much more rested today than I have in a while. He's done that before though...had a good sleep night. So I am not holding my breath that he'll have a repeat performance tonight, it may have just been a fluke. But I will keep all the great suggestions I got in mind if he gets super fussy and wont sleep again.

On another note...is there a norm for what formula fed babies should be eating at almost 3 weeks?? I asked his ped at the last appt. and she said it varies because all babies are different. But I feel like Jake eats a LOT. He's taking between 3-4 ounces every 2-3 hours. And sometimes it's a struggle not to feed him sooner than that because it seems like he's ALWAYS hungry. I don't want to overfeed him because he does tend to spit up a lot if he eats more than 4 oz. but he gets so mad and fussy if I don't let him suck on the bottle. I try giving him the pacifier instead but it's a no go. Is that normal? Is he just a piggy??

What type of paci are you using? Some babies will only take certain ones. I know my older kids really likes the the NUK ones, but the twins would NOT take them, but they did like the soothies.

At three weeks he is probably going through a growth spurt, so he would be eating more right now. And probably sleeping a little more. I would say feed him what he wants, and if he spits up, you know its to much.. Try a soothie, and see if he likes it.

Avent and Mam seem to be popular in the breastfeeding crowd LOL. They are both the same shape nipple, kinda a flat wider nipple. I tried like 5brands and couldn't get her to take anything but DH did get her to take an Avent one eventually. He just kept trying and kind of tapping on it a few times and she finally settled down and took it. Now she's good with it. I think she was about 4 weeks when started trying and maybe 7 weeks when she finally took one.

Your baby is still really new. Did you nurse your others? The reason I ask is because I'm not sure how experienced you are in nursing--like if giving the paci should cause a problem. I nursed my other 2 and have been thru nearly all problems so I felt pretty good about being able to "fix" a problem if I created one.

I nursed them all (the four older ones in my signature) for at least a year each, that's why I can tell I'm a "human pacifier" to her right now and that I'm producing a little more than she actually needs because she's into the constant sucking and then the huge spit-ups from overeating. My son did this too. He only took a pacifier for about three weeks, though. Come to think of it. Maybe I shouldn't even bother.

Kudos to those breastfeeding antibodies! I remember having terrible flu (not swine, though) when my son was a baby and how he didn't get sick either. (Husband was deployed at the time, my parents got sick while staying with me to help, oh the flashbacks! Anyway, what you wrote there is one of the many reasons why I breastfeed. (That and I get to be a C/D cup for once in my life. )
