The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I was considering buying Walgreens brand formula this week. Emma has had Silimac Advance and Enfamil premium Lipil. I have been switching between both of these brands depending what coupons or freebies I had. I have read the label comparisions and they seem equal, and it is produced in Vt.

Just curious of anyones success with generic. I mentioned it to my DM and she made me feel guilty. For now I have some formula, but I was trying to stock up while there was a good sale and coupons. Walgreens large 28 oz can was on sale for $11.99 and locally we had a $3 off coupon for anything in the store.

Sorry if this has been discussed already. We are having PC issues and I only have occasional access to DH's laptop.

Thanks,
Ann

Staley, I love the pic with all four kiddos. Jazzy's expression is so funny, almost like "OMG, I have to take another picture!"

The pediatrician in the hospital told me that all the formulas are pretty much the same (except of course those that are soy, etc.). Besides, formula I am sure is pretty scrutinized and I can't imagine any store would be allowed to produce a less than good quality product like that for babies! SO I don't see why you shouldn't use the store brand! JMO!

Too funny! I was thinking the same thing.:rotfl2:

Another weekend has come and gone. I am getting nervous about Natalie's check up on Wed. This is her 2 month and she will be getting her shots :scared1:. I just don't want her to have a bad reaction to them. Patsy- did you and Lucas go today for yours?

Ann, I use Wal-Mart's Parents Choice formula and I actually like it better than Enfamil. It seems to mix better or something. My pediatrician said the same thing, that generic is the same as the name brand so if it saves money, great!

Hi,
We also just did our 2 month at the beginning of the month. The shots were fine, my LO only cried for a minute. That night and next day were the hard part. We made sure to give the Tylenol every 4 hours as opposed to 6 and he did much better after that. Cranky for sure, but he was much better the next day.

Ugh, today was icky.

Lucas had his 2 month today (or 2 month 2wks anyway :rolleyes1)....

First, shots. They were fine. He screamed. I cried. He's pretty much been asleep except for the few hours following the appointment which I'll get into later.
The nurse said the same thing ShootingStarMom said (do we know your real name? :confused3 Just curious.) to keep giving him Tylenol every 4 hours and she gave me a chart. She said to ALWAYS follow the dosage on the CHART based on weight, not age. For example, Lucas (by weight) is in their 4-6 month dosage range. She told me to go straight home and put the chart on the fridge with duct tape otherwise I'd never be able to find it when I needed it. :rotfl:

Pediatrician said Lucas did indeed catch my cold. I knew he did, so I was thankful the appointment was today. They thought they heard a heart murmur at his last appointment that they were going to "watch"... well it was there and a lot worse this time around. So Lucas and I spent the next few hours meandering around the hospital while we waited to get his EKG and chest X-Ray done. Depending on the results of those I have to take him back for an Echo.
I really wish, after today, I would have listened to DH and taken the stroller with me, haha. I did learn, though, that the hospital does free Valet parking before 2pm. :woohoo: So I took advantage of that and will for sure be taking advantage in the future as well.

Oh, Lucas also has a rash that the Pediatrician called... dipoxia (sp??) ... he asked if either of us have severe allergies, told him my DH does and he said Lucas got most likely got it from him then. Said it's super common and hydro cortisone cream will tare of it in a few days. It popped up this weekend when he got my cold. :guilty:

Other than that, he's in the 75th percentile for height and weight. 13lbs 4oz, 24" long.

*eta* The nurse also suggested I buy Witch Hazel Wipes (basically, Tucks) to wipe where Lucas got his shot. She said it would take any inflammation away easily and really alleviate any discomfort he has. I got a tub of 100 at Wal*Mart for <$3 so I'll have plenty for shots later on, too.

Pretend I am invisible and still only lurking (I've got two months til my EDD). . . .

anyhow, Patsy - what did they say about his eating?? Hopefully some of that got resolved. Also, when will you know about the results of the x-ray and such - hopefully your handsome little man will be just fine :)

Sounds like and eventful day for both of you! I still have Tucks for me, so I guess Alexis and I can share when she gets to her 2 mo. check-up. :) Her 2 week is tomorrow. She has been a little grump yesterday and today, so I can't see that an exam tomorrow will cheer her up any. She's happy as long as someone is cuddling with her, but heaven forbid we put her down for any reason, including the fact that she is sleeping. Does she not realize she has four other siblings and that occasionally mom and dad have to take care of them or, you know, even go to the bathroom once in awhile;)?

I would totally use generic!! I dont know why I didnt with my other kids.. But on my twin boards, they seem to have gotten the best results with Target brand, It seems to be the easiest, and that is what I used before the twinnies started having tummy troubles.

Awww... Poor little fella! Thats a lot going on for such a little guy.

Patsy-

My last post was supposed to close with me saying "How scary" about the EKG and that I hoped it didn't reveal anything serious and that you wouldn't be back for further testing. But, the tiny boss in this house decided that she had to eat RIGHT NOW! So, I hit send in the hopes I could tack this on later. Seriously though, I do hope everything is OK. A close friend of mine had two of her three kids diagnosed with heart murmers and both of them just had to outgrow them (all while being monitored by their Dr., of course) with no other intervention necessary.

Patsy, in case I don't get to check in later, I hope all goes well with the results! I head to AL to my moms tomorrow and she doesn't have internet connection. Hopefully when DH joins us for the weekend I will be able to get online with his computer, but just in case....

I will miss you girls the next few days and hope that everything goes smoothly for each of you!

Test results were normal, phew.

Goal for today is to prepare an attack on KMart (doubling coupons up to $2) and get my living room clean. Shall I succeed? I doubt it.

I just might if Lucas sleeps again like he did yesterday... DH gave him a bottle when he got off work last night (so I'm thinking about 5pm) and he slept until 6:45am this morning! I was in shock, but the nurse told me not to wake him up... so we didn't. We watched 17 Again. I wish it had more Matthew Perry in it!

I think we are dealing with the same child :rotfl: Jacob SCREAMS bloody murder if he gets put down. He's fine if someone is holding him but otherwise he's just super grumpy and unhappy. I feel like I'm doing something wrong :confused3 Last night he was already asleep but the second I lay him in his bassinet he started wailing. I know they say it's okay to let the baby cry but he has this blood curdling scream and I would be keeping the whole house up if I let him carry on like that! I had to sleep on the recliner last night because the only way he would stay quiet was if he was in my arms.

Someone please tell me this is a phase because I am honestly starting to feel like my baby hates me :sad2: No matter what I do it seems like he is unhappy unless he's sleeping or eating. I hope this changes soon cause it's starting to drive me nuts :headache:

Patsy, I'm glad to hear Lucas test results were normal! That must be such a relief for you. Good luck on your KMart excursion today! I am going to try making a trip to Target to pick up a few things as well. Hopefully Jake will be okay. He seems to like being in the car and in the travel system and it usually keeps him calm. We'll see!

We use Kroger brand, and both babies took it better than Similac...

Also, I saw an ad for this in a magazine I read in the hospital yesterday.

Being a first time mom here, I thought it might help me. It's a free potty training DVD from pull-ups.

(help me eventually anyway, I know I've got awhile :rotfl:)

Anyone ever try the "Potty movie"... going to my potty potty. It has a boy and girl version. My DD trained to it so well, so we already bought the boy version for Sage.

:hug:Im sorry you are having a rough time! Have you asked his ped if there is something going on? Like maybe he is having tummy trouble?? Gas or something?

Have you tried putting him in his car seat, and rocking him to sleep? How does he do during tummy time?

Sorry that you are having to deal with this. It WILL get better!!

Have you tried swaddling him? I know it is hot and not sure if you have AC or not, but it helped Allison- and still does. also, have you tried putting him down in something other than his bassinet like a pack n play? Allison hated her bassinet- would wake up in 1 minute after we put her down, but would sleep in her pnp like a champ. we started her in her crib at 4 weeks old and she has been there since.

If you decide to swaddle, we learned a trick to use at first. roll up a recieving blanket and then put it under on side of him, then stretch another receiving blanket over him (ie tuck it under each side of the mattress) this helps them to feel secure.

Give it a shot- let us know how it works for you. hang in there- it is ok to let them cry- just not for too long. even though i know how hard it is!!!

Don't feel bad, Natalie does the same thing. She sleeps great on her back during the day, but at night, not so much. I have her sleeping in her car seat still. She LOVES it. I am a very bad Mommy. Very bad. I have been trying to get her out of it, but no such luck yet.

Veronica - Sorry about Jacob screaming. It's normal, don't worry! Sometimes they just can't get comfortable and really let you know it. Our LO would scream for no reason at all, out of no where. Not so much at night, but it's still startling. I agree on trying swadling. Both of my boys hate blankets and constantly kick them off. So we started using a sleepsack with the oldest (winter baby though) and he started sleeping much better. It didn't have sleeves so we just put him in a long sleeved onesie and diaper so he didn't overheat.

We also used a sleep positioner not so much to keep them in line, but so they feel like something is next to them. Have you tried keeping your hands on him for a little while before you let go? DH has a few fans running for white noise and I think they both really like that too.

Our neighbor just brought us a fresh raspberry pie and a jar of raspberry jelly. Yahoo!
