The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

OK...DM mentioned giving Emma cereal at night already!!!:scared1:

What do you girls think??? I know I did not start DS this early, she is just a month.

..I think I'm the only doing strictly formula feeding, BUT Lucas is up to at least 6oz a feeding, occassionally taking 8-10oz. I called to see about cereal a few weeks ago and the nurse practically told me I was a horrible mom and "flooding Lucas with formula" because that was way too much.
a) the pediatrician told me a big boy like Lucas can "eat what he wants"
b) the books mostly say that babies won't overeat...
c) he isn't happy unless we let him eat that much. He cries otherwise.

...so how can I be "flooding" him?!

You're not being horrible. What's wrong with feeding your baby if he's hungry? If he's willing to take the formula and doesn't end up throwing it all up from being overfull, then I wouldn't worry about it. My first would feed on one side then overeat on the second side. He would throw most of it back up and then be happy for a few hours. I really thought something was wrong until his 1st month check up and the pedi said DS would be fine throwing up the second feed as long as he still seemed satisfied. He's 28 pounds now, so something went right! We didn't start cereal until about 5 months.

Does she seem unsatisfied? Even if she does, I would ask the pediatrician first. I didn't think you started the babies on cereal until 6months but I have had a couple of people ask me about starting Zander on cereal too. I just think its still too early but thats IMO.

I thought I would share some recent photos.

Awww... he's so cute! Daddy looks like he's loving having his boy lay on him, too! :) I love it when my boys hang out together!

The nurse told me it was too early for cereal, Ann. My mom was trying to get me to give him cereal, too. Then she gave Lucas a bottle of water. Made me mad-- I keep telling her not to give him water and she keeps doing it. Gr.

Anyway, nurse said they can't fully digest it until they're at least 4 months old.
I'm eager to see the pediatrician on the 17th and see what he says. Poor Lucas gets his shots.

Mendy, how is Madeline (did I spell that right) taking to Zander? She looks pretty happy! :)

Thanks for the opinions on the cereal ladies. I agree with all of you it is to early. Emma is taking 5oz., but she is not stretching more than 3 hours. That is why my DM thinks I should try "a couple of spoons of cereal just at night." Old school way of thinking so much has changed.

Mendy, I love the pics. Your kids are beautiful.

December, my DD is opposite of yours. She hates the vibrating seat and tolerates her swing. Your DD is so cute!

I love seeing everyones pics!!!

Thanks everyone. It's great to be reminded that she's pretty normal and things will change. We're so lucky to have the time before Dh goes back to work.

Speaking of work...I know Dr Sears would be mad at me, but I can't stop thinking about going back. I definitely want to work part time, I just hope the schedule I want is excepted and is part time enough (I'll be averaging 29 hours/week). And it's terrible, but I really hope the fianaces of the library stay at this crappy level so I don't have to go full time anytime soon. It's looking like I could have this schedule for the rest of this year and maybe even next year too. I wish I didn't have to go back at all, but we need the money and at this point, the chances of me finding a new librarian job after a year or two off would be slim to nil.

Okay, feels better to talk about it.

Cuddling question:
How often did you cuddle the newborn? Like all the time? DH and I have been letting her chill on the pad of her Gymini a lot the last couple of days, so she gets more used to sleeping on her back instead of in our arms. But I don't want her to feel neglected or anything. :-) Gosh this sounds stupid...lol

When Mikalah was born, I was on WIC with her and the lady I went to see said that she was eating WAY to much. And that I wasnt feeding my oldest enough!! She totaly insinuated that I was starving Alex, and way overfeeding Mikalah! I was HOT. Mikalah is a BIG girl. She is off the charts, and always has been. She eats more than her brother... who is a skinny little guy. She isnt overweight, just really big for her age.

I think it might be to early... I didnt start until 4 months, and lots of others start later then that. But I dont even do rice cereal... just straight to food.

My mom is always trying to give my babies water too. I tried to explain to her WHY she shouldnt, she doesnt get it. HELLO!!! Things are different, and they are not getting dehydrated! She doesnt do it anymore. I guess after four kids she got tired of me yelling at her about it.

She doesnt feel neglected, I promise! I hold my babies all the time... but they also have TONS of time on the floor, bouncy chairs, jumpy thingy... we have a bumbo now a friend is letting us use. Its good for them to learn how to entertain themselves.

I feel like I am ALWAYS holding a baby... but I also feel like I dont get to spend enough time with them. Stupid, huh??

Sarah, if Lily felt neglected then I feel really sorry for Lucas!!

Maybe I'm bad but he truly does spend more time in his swing than he does with me holding him. At first it just hurt too much... then we got in the habit of cuddling in the morning after the bottle (in my bed) and now I'm back to not being able to hold him again. I tried to cuddle with him in my bed earlier and he stretched out and kicked my tummy so hard it took my breathe away. So he's back in his crib now. :-/

She'll be fine. Everyone told me not to let him get used to sleeping in our arms... so I've just always put him in his crib/in his swing when he fell asleep. He still smiles when he sees me :)

GAH!! What to do... what to do... The rates came out today, and I just dont know what to do. I had it all set to stay at POR. Then my mom jumped up my butt about checking DVC. Even though I TOLD her it was to much. To expensive for us, and she is to much of a tightwad to pay that much. So now I am looking like.. maybe?? Maybe we could afford it? NO. We CANT. Yes, I do argue with myself. :lmao::lmao:

But what about a split stay?? We could do that!! One week at POR, and then switch over to AKV... What do you all think? I think it is on the higher end of being affordable, but still doable. Then we would have a little more room to spread out at the end of our vacation... You know, just in time for us all to be totally sick of each other. :rotfl2::rotfl2: The idea of having a king bed, and a separate room from the kiddos... Plus we could go home with clean clothes. maybe. If I feel like doing laundry. :rotfl2:

Can someone tell me if they can see this? I've been having issues with DIS today with posting and staying logged in.

Patsy-Madeline is doing great with her baby brother! She's actually very protective! The other night when we decided to start giving him a bottle, she wanted us to wake her up to help feed him in the middle of the night! She's had a few moments where she wants to make sure we still love her too but for the most part she's okay with the changes.

Sarah-I do the same thing as far as cuddling. In the beginning (first few days) I wanted to hold him all the time but after that I quickly learned that he was too used to me or someone else holding him and he wasn't happy otherwise. So he gets playmat or swing or bouncy seat time alot. And I don't see where its a bad thing, it keeps him interested in sleeping in his pack n play instead of on us!

Staley-I wish I could be planning a trip! And if we could, I would definitely want to stay at AKV! Its one of my dreams to stay at AKV (or at least AKL!).

I would do it, Staley.

Those Villas look GORGEOUS! Would it be cheaper for you to rent points off the boards, though? I almost did that once.

I upgraded us for absolutely no real reason... other than I wanted to stay at CBR instead of POP. I say go for it!

Oh, and Veronica had Jake!

She has a few details posted on the other thread.

Yeah... but I am WAY to nervous to do that. It just freaks me right out! If we got "had" we wouldnt have the money to go at all.

:cool1::cool1::cool1: I SAW!!!! I am SOOO excited for her!

Y'all were talkative today! I spent the day at my mother's. Today was my baby sister's 32nd birthday, and next Sunday is one of my older sister's 45th birthday. The older one saw Katie for the 1st time today. Ds12's feelings are still hurt that she didn't acknowledge his 12th birthday last month, but I took her a gift anyway. She of course was the 1st one to leave, hours before anyone else.

I was bombarded with the cereal talk today! I see you were all discussing it, too. Katie LOVES to nurse, and my family is freaked out by breastfeeding. I fed her FOUR times while we were there, and they kept pushing the cereal on me. I kept telling them 4 mos, and they kept arguing that she isn't satisfied and needs solid food. I gave in to them in my 20s, but at 36 they can kiss my behind! My grandmother is friends with the lady in the baby room at daycare, and told me that if I wouldn't feed her she bet they would. So in the morning I'm having a nice long talk with her about NOT feeding my child until I say so!

Speaking of daycare, I'm not really excited about in the morning! The preacher even asked for special prayer for me and Katie, and even more prayer for the daycare workers!:rotfl:

...And my mil is still mad at me because I wouldn't let her give Katie a bottle of water for the hiccups the other day.

I'm determined to have my way with the feeding this time, because I didn't get to with the other 2. My grandmother started keeping ds12 when I went back to work when he was 3 wks old!!!!! She fed him whatever she wanted, and threw out my breastmilk! I didn't know this until after the fact. With dd9, I went into the hospital when she was 4 days old, and my mil took over. I never got to nurse her again. So this time, it is my way!!!!!

I dont get why people are so freaked about breastfeeding. My mom just about runs screaming from the room... But my dad never had an issue with it. :confused3

I was thinking of you today.. going back to work. I know it will suck, but Katie will be so happy to see you when you get back!!

Hi,
Thanks for letting me know you could see my post. I don't know what was going on with my computer. It wouldn't let me stay logged into DIS no matter how many times I tried to log in. Finally, it's working.

Does anyone have any tips about getting my toddler to eat a bigger variety of foods? I know there are some new moms with older kiddos that might have some tips. We all set on fruits, he eats a ton. But there's very little meats other than chicken nuggest (do those even count?) and an occasional bite of hamburger. He loves white potatoes and sweet potatoes and corn sometimes. But he's been pleading for more yogurt and fruit without even eating everything else. Of course, he'll eat the fruit and things he likes first but I won't give in and let him extras unless he eats something else first. I'm trying my hardest not to get upset, he's just too cute when he whines for more "yo-yo" and "peases".

Can't wait for the baby to start solids so I can show the big brother that his baby can eat other foods too.

Dip. Let him dip his meat and veg into anything he wants... ketchup, mustard, salad dressing.. whatever!! sour cream, yogurt.. Little ones LOVE to dip things, and it makes it fun for them!
