The "Newest" Moms Hangout...

I just can't do schedules. I am not a person who can stick to one. I get depressed with the monotony of it all day in and day out.

We change things up all the time, I can't do same old, same old. Maybe it's just me. Maybe we just have crazy lives but we've never been able to stick to a schedule. New semester, everything changes.. we're a 'fly by the seat of our pants' family, I guess. :-p

I need to do something differently just in terms of my completing housework. I suck profusely at being a housewife. I tried a new thing this week- I wrote a chore down for every day in my planner. I have yet to complete any of them :rotfl:

I seem to be getting my energy back, though. Which is awesome! I used to get up when Lucas woke up but the last few months I've been giving him a bottle and going back to bed. I've had enough energy the last few days to start getting up with him again which is encouraging.

Plus, I've been making an effort to cook. The last few weeks we did a lot of take-out, going-out to eat (because of my cravings). So I've made an effort to cook this week and so far so good. Except I could kill for Olive Garden.

Friend just called!!! Her ultrasound was today and she got great news!!

She measured right on to her due date based off of LMP- 7w1d. Heartbeat of 150!!!

I can't really say anything on Facebook, she isn't telling people yet b/c of her miscarriage. So I am sharing with you guys because I am so excited for her!!! :)

This sounds so much like me! I can make the most organized to-do lists...but to follow them? That's a whole other story!:rotfl:

 to your friend! That is wonderful news!

I'd kill to get her on a schedule, but there's no way that 1. she would cooperate or 2. that we could stick to it because of MY schedule. Working M & Tu til 9 makes things really really tough.

Almost forgot!

DH got his school schedule for next year and guess what?! He's getting 2 weeks off for Christmas! So we could go December 18-25 instead of August.

What would you do? Go in August and get free dining, but deal with the heat? Or go for Christmas, pay more (possibly a lot more), and risk some hard feelings with relatives? Oh and DH insists on driving for either trip. SIL and FIL would probably go with us in some capacity, but I would want a pretty seperate trip for Lily's first trip. We'd have to celebrate with my parents after Christmas, but I think they would get over it.

I just want to go both times! lol

I've gone that week with my brother three times and we LOVED IT!
The crowds are pretty mild for the first part and start to get busier towards the end.. so we did all our must-dos early and just enjoyed the decorations and all that towards the end. We had so much fun ! I love the decorations. :lovestruc

We're probably going to go over Christmas when I'm a teacher, too. I couldn't handle the heat!

We're doing DCL in 2013. 100% positive on that. Probably September. :yay:

*eta*
Lucas took a big boy bath today...

I would love a schedule, too. But since Katie is in charge around here, it ain't happening.......:rotfl:

Sarah, I know I can always make you feel better. Katie is in bed with me, and usually wakes up at least once (around 4) to nurse. And she'll be 9 mos old Sun. She won't go to sleep until around 9 (sometimes 10) and is up at 6 (I have to wake her up at 6 to nurse her before work).

My friends who tried so long to get pregnant had their sonogram today-its a girl!

Nice news about 2 weeks off. Did you just smile when you heard that? I would go in August. We've gone in July a ton of times when it's blazing hot and it was still a good time. It just left more opportunities for swimming and Typhoon Lagoon. I can't stand how much it costs to eat at the parks, so free dining would be awesome. :goodvibes

Next trip we will have a 1BR at BLT so we're going to do Garden Grocer and bring along a crockpot. I don't want to cook every meal but after a few days of chicken and hamburgers I'm ready for some real food.

Cute bath pic. My 2 had a bath last night and really enjoyed emptying out the collander on each others heads. Now that the baby is sitting up in the tub (with that little blue bath ring) they have a ton of fun together. They also shared a cart at Costco for the first time today. My dad really enjoyed pushing both of them around.

Patsy - With my first I didn't have any schedule and ours days sounded very, very much like yours. When my 2nd came, however, my oldest was in preschool so that pretty much set our schedule. My first had to go to bed at a certain time every night for school so I started putting my son to bed then too (he was about 4-6 weeks at the time). He'd wake up when we had to get ready for school, nap when she was in school (morning preschool), then wake up when we had to pick her up, nap again in the afternoon when we got home, etc.

For my son, this was perfect. He did super with a schedule and was very irritated when we did anything out of the ordinary as an infant. This was mildly difficult for me to deal with, but that's just his personality.

My first, otoh, was simply not schedule material, and nor was I so that worked out well. I was mostly home with her at the time (I was in grad school from 6-15 weeks postpartum, but only a couple of hours a day) so we didn't have to be up at a certain time, she slept horribly so it was easier to keep her up with us than fight with putting her to bed, she was not at all a huge eater so I don't think she ever ate more than 1 stage 2 jar a day, etc.

This baby does what she wants for the time being, but as of Tuesday when my husband is back at work and I am on my own with all 3 kids, she'll be forced into a schedule based on my other 2.

Regarding the food questions, with my first we did the rice cereal, then other cereals, and when she was used to eating them we did veggies, then fruits. My daughter was a terrible, terrible eater. She was so skinny and did not want to eat much at all. Kid lived on breastmilk and Gerber puffs.

With my second I started off the same way but after his initial enthusiasm to eat wore off after 3 days of rice cereal, I scrapped that and gave him some jarred fruits and he loved it. We totally bypassed the oatmeal and mixed grain cereals and the veggies and he was thrilled. This kid turned out to be quite the little eater, ate every jarred food we offered, every smashed or cubed table food, and was pretty much completely on table food by 9 months. Now, at 3.5yo, the kid has literally cried for broccoli in the grocery store, whereas my daughter would have rather starved to death rather than eat a vegetable when she was 3yo. She's fine now and has been for close to 2 years (she's almost 6yo), but from about 18mos-3.5yo she only ate oatmeal, pasta, and rice.

harleyquinn- We have the Maclaren Quest.
I would *not* go at Christmas. We have been a few times and I felt it was really stressful to deal with celebrating late and early with family as well as doing all the packing and airport and the crowds at disney. I would do August.

I wish I could get Vivien on some kind of schedule. At seven months she still does a totally different thing every day. You would think it isn't a big deal, but some days she has one nap and some days three, some nights she wants to go down at 9pm and some at midnight. Makes a mama crazy!!!

Sarah - Alex still gets up at least 2-3 times a night still and he's in a crib (he's almost 22 weeks now?)...he's down by 7:30p-8pm and then up around 11p and 3a to eat. He's up for good around 7am with me though since I'm out the door by 8am.
So you're not alone in the night waking! :teeth: I'm right there with ya!

Thank you both! it feels better to know I'm not the only one with a bad sleeper and a (so far) picky eater! She's such a happy baby though, so we must be doing something right. :thumbsup2

lol So that's 2 for Christmas and 2 for August right? Thanks for the help!

Keep in mind this is the week BEFORE Christmas. I know that Christmas and the week after are terrible crowds, but I think the week before is a lot better. Just about all the schools around here don't get out until the 22 or 23. We'll have been down there for 5 days by then.

Definitely go the week prior to Christmas. Crowds are quite low and it isn't unbelievably hot like it is in August.

I think I'm leaning that way. Just to protect Lily from the sun/heat. Plus we may have some family with us to help. Hopefully our tax return can make up the difference or maybe they'll have a package discount. lol yeah right!

ETA: Ack! It's $65 more per night in December! Wah! Of course last year they had the 7 for 4 package for stays up to Christmas eve...so maybe there will be at least some sort of discount.

Jake is about the same age. With him, he cut out the nighttime feedings all together when i started feeding him more during the day. You might try it. He would eat every 4 hours before.... but now, I feed him every 2 and a half hours... 5 oz. He is never hungry-- but he always takes the bottle. I have to get in 6 bottles during a 12 hr period in order for him to sleep through the night. It also has a lot to do with nighttime routine. At night, i give him his last bottle in the complete dark as i rock him. He knows this is the last bottle he gets and its the time where he sleeps without waking up to eat. He sleeps about 11 hrs. If i dont get about 30 oz in him all day long (say i miss a bottle)-- then he is up for that one feeding in the night. By keeping his belly full all day- he is able to feel full and sleep all night. He does not get rice cereal or any cereal at all. He has a had a lot of stomach issues and doesnt tolerate it well. We do half of a fruit jar in the morning with a 5oz bottle, and half a veggie jar at night with a 5oz bottle. He has about 2 bottles in between and about 2 bottles afterward. If the last bottle is before the 2 and a half hour mark... i give it to him anyway if he will take it. Keeping his belly full all day has been the key. I just wanted to tell you this in hopes that it works for you. I try to keep him up in the morning for 2.5 hrs.... so he wakes up and gets fruit and bottle, then he gets another bottle before his nap. Then he has the option to sleep 2.5 hrs. I dont let him sleep long past his feeding times bc it throws his sleep off for the night. The feeding is really the key for him. A friend told me to try this and i did-- so glad! I get lots of sleep and feel human again! LOL

I dont get on much anymore.... sorry guys! I am so busy! Jake went through a bad constipation period and after a colonoscopy and many other tests... we found out he is highly allergic to cows milk. He is the happiest baby though... and are are on the right track now!

Also- i appologize bc i cant ready all the pages... but i do see talk of Disney.

DH and I are planning on taking Jake around his first birthday in September. I know it may be warm but anyone have any advice? Also.... are there any threads floating around with tips for taking kids around this age? Things to bring... do's, dont's... etc...

Hehe...here's the perfect thread...mine!! I started it before Lily was here and just resurrected it last week.

Long time lurker here with some advice! Please feel free to ignore, but had to put my $.02 in! Be prepared for it to be cold!!! We have gone numerous times in December and each time it gets colder and colder! I don't consider it a vacation to be bundled up! I hate the heat, but I'd be more inclined to go when I could get into a pool and cool off! Good luck!!! :-)

Maggie - that's great that you guys finally have a solution with Jake!

I thought about having the sitter do that (feed him more) but he seems happier with one large bottle in the day. And it's hard to gauge the rest of the day when he's with me and I'm BFing.
Last night he was up almost every two hours...but not hungry, just waking himself up. We did our normal routine - bath, lotion, book, dim lights while eating - I don't know if his room is too hot, too cold... I try to let him cry it out for a few minutes but as soon as I pick him up he's out cold again within 5 minutes. I don't get it sometimes...
