The NEW WL FAQ (Part 5) Simbas and Tiggers and Humphreys OH MY! Part 2

I first went on a tour to The Vacation Club back in 1994 (now OKW) I thought it was great but the location didn't do anything for me. We always stayed at the Poly back then and had just found the Wilderness Lodge so as far as location...there wasn't even a close comparison. But I loved the size of the villas.

In 1998 I book the Boardwalk Villas for a large family visit, I did this without knowing that the BWV was a DVC resort. :confused3 This trip I started thinking more and more about DVC.

In 1999 back over at Wilderness Lodge we received a room in the south wing and saw a large construction area right outside our room. Now most guest may have requested a new room or complained, not me...large cranes, backhoes and bulldozers can you imagine what a 4-year fan of Bob the Builder would prefer. This trip was with my 4 year old nephew the two of us would go back to the Lodge and sit out on the balcony for hours watching them build The Villas @ Wilderness Lodge. I told him I thought we needed to purchase part of the new building, he agreed so I did it. The best of locations and the size of the Villas all at Wilderness Lodge.

I love being able to visit anytime I want and knowing my family will continue to enjoy Disney many year too come.

But watch out two years later I pruchased another contract over at the BWV's.

My only regret was not buying in 1994 when the price per point was $57.00. That's why most DVC'er say..."I wish I had purchased earlier."

Beckie, is there any quick way to give me a basic outline of how the DVC works?

You will need to visit Teton Boat & Bike Rental all you need to do is show your room key, they have life vest in varying sizes that will accommodate everyone.

Make sure that you note the hours of operation the vest will need to be turned-in before you check out and if your leaving early in the morning they may not be open yet.

Thank you so much for the info. I appreciate it! :wave2:

Good morning all of you wonder WL people. Just thinking about that place makes me smile. After all it's where my hubby fell in love with Disney!!

Good morning!

It worked the same magic on my wife. Wilderness Lodge is the best way to introduce an unsure spouse to the benefits of Disney vacations!

Has anyone had any difficulty getting a ressie at WL concierge in the summer? I am thinking about booking it for June of 2008 and am past my 500 day mark. I wanted to wait until the AAA rates come out and see if I could grab one of those, but I thought I read somewhere on here that people said that WL CL books up fast!! I don't know if I should risk the wait! Any experiences?

I need some help from the experts - are there any king bedrooms at the Lodge that aren't also handicapped-accessible? DH and I are currently booked at the Lodge for early March, but are thinking of possibly moving our reservation if this is the case. I know king beds are few and far between to begin with, but I dislike the fact that it seems like most also double as the barrier-free rooms.

I know it's not a big deal to most people, but we had one of these rooms in Nov. '05, and the shower just grossed me out. The tiles on the floor looked VERY dirt, and I was glad I brought flip flops I could wear in there.

Any help would be appreciated - thanks! :goodvibes

Also keep in mind that all rooms at the WL were completely redone this past summer and they are in great shape. I doubt the dirty tile is a problem now.

That's one of the main reasons I'd like to go back to the WL - to experience the new rooms. However, I thought it was mainly a soft goods refurb (bedding and such, plus the furniture). Did they do anything else to the bathrooms, other than installing the curved shower rod? I just felt like I was in a gym locker room (and I've been in cleaner ones, at that).

keliblue - I'm assuming your room wasn't a Honeymoon room?

Of course, we could always not end up with a king bed at all, which is disappointing. I really wish deluxes would give the option to reserve a king bed like the moderates do. DH and I are just too tall to fit comfortably together in a queen!

When we were there in July, everything looked new. I know the bedding, carpet, drapes and so forth were. However, I wasn't in one of the accessible rooms, so I don't know for a fact, but the tile we had in our bath looked new as well.

First, did you book a Woods or Courtyard View? King size beds aren't available in Standard View Rooms. Second none of the Deluxe Resorts guarantee a room with king size bedding unless the room is booked with a king size bed in the room description...ie the Honeymoon Suits.

I believe that you can also book a room with a king size bedding at a few of the Moderates.

The following is from my post on page 1:

About 37 Lodge rooms with King beds double as the barrier-free (handicap-accessible) rooms and have a large shower with no tub.

* Note there are more then 37 rooms with King size beds, So yes there are regular King size bed rooms with full baths.

*Posted by HLAuburn We were upgraded to a courtyard from a standard. We were assigned one of the illusive king rooms with a tub (4129). Great location, great view, nice room, no complaints whatsoever.

*Posted by SkipperBubbaI had a king bed room (#5075) that was on the lobby end of the courtyard. It was right next to the Sunrise Terrace, just up a floor... directly above the creek as it exits the lobby. The room had a standard tub and it was wonderful to get up and look out over the courtyard and bay. It was our honeymoon... and the room was perfect.

*Posted by TJMICKEY We were in room 4073 and even though this was a lobby room, we never were bothered by any noise at all.
The rooms are absolutely beautiful, we had a king room (not a handicap room) and it was plenty big enough for the 2 of us. The bed was very comfortable and there was also a comfortable easy chair and ottoman in the room.

All three of these rooms are in fact Courtyard View Rooms. If I wanted a king size bed non-accessible I would make my request as:

Request: King size bed with a tub, that would be all I asked for.

Good luck on whatever you decide.

I don't think you have anything to wory about, if booking in June 2008 Concierge. The 2008 rates haven't even been released yet, not sure where you have recieved your information. I would think you have plenty of time to book your room months even.

Beckie

PS: Remember you can always book your room then when the discounts come out you can call and modify your reservations to add the discount.

Thanks so much for your help, Beckie. We booked Std. this time, and had Woods View the other time. Hmm, I know Courtyard isn't available with the AP rate for my dates. I guess I have a decision to make! If we switch, we'll probably do CBR, as we've enjoyed our stay there in the past, and can get a king bed guaranteed.

I'm torn - I really want the Lodge with the convenient access to the MK, but the king is also important to us!

I'm leaving for the WL in less than 8 hours. I need to go to bed. We can't wait.

GO COLTS!!!!!!!!!
