What a wonderful time and place to get married!

I've been wondering where you can find the info for conferences and events too.
I've looked and looked but I can't find conference schedules anywhere. Please, someone that's smarter than me tell me where to find this info.
I google "disney dolphin conferences 2011"...sometimes throwing in "orlando" and the specific month I'm looking for. I can't say that the info is comprehensive, but it usually gives me a good overview of what's going on at a given time of the year.

I did try booking it online at WDWDining and it said no available tables. Like I said they don't take reservations for breakfast only dinner. I called them directly and that's what they told me.

I just wish instead of saying "no available tables" they put "no reservations needed", would make so much more sense!
For what it's worth, just about every single time I see Garden Grove mentioned in a trip report or food review thread, there's always a mention of how uncrowded the restaurant is. Hopefully, this will hold true in November when you're there.

How did I forget about email?! That's a great idea. I just emailed them, so we'll see what happens! Thanks!
I'll keep my fingers crossed for you, that there might be an extra helping of pixie dust with your name on it!

I know I found this before but can't seem to find it now, I am looking for the thread that has everyones best room views for the Dolphin.

Thanks!

Welcome! I'll be there at the same time and I was really hoping there wouldn't be a conference over Thanksgiving but I guess there are. I guess the hotel will be packed regardless.

We will there there over TG weekend as well, can't wait!

Wondering if anyone knows if historically the Swan/Dolphin offers any special rates at Thanksgiving time? Currently have AAA rate booked at Swan for the week before Thanksgiving (19th - 25th) but I'm curious if anything better might come along. :confused3 Thanks:flower3:

We booked a balcony room for that weekend and I thought the rates were pretty good considering it is TG.

We had this view (taken from the balcony) a few years ago at the Dolphin. East wing - beautiful!

Do you remember what room number that was and was it a regular room or a suite?

Thanks!

Sounds like a great tradition to me!! :thumbsup2

It depends on the time of year, too. We have always stayed in June, and there has been a DJ adjacent to the Cabana Bar - set up on the basketball court on the Dolphin side. A list of "resort activities" is available at the front desk or conceirge desk during your stay.

So glad you enjoyed your stay! We love the Dolphin for that "hustle and bustle" reason. One of our favorite "traditions" is to have a nightcap (espresso martini, anyone?! :goodvibes) and sit in the Dolphin's lobby on the "comfy couches" and people watch! :hippie:

It is funny that you would mention you like the "hustle and bustle" lol. My son refuses to go back to Disney or Universal if it's a dead season and I agree!

The hustle and bustle adds to the atmosphere and makes it way more enjoyable but then he is 22 and I am 50 so families with little kids may prefer the quieter seasons.

I staying at the Swan during Nov. and I'm getting a standard room view. Can anyone give me some pointers as to what to request for getting the best possible view?

You read my mind except we are staying at the Dolphin in November and have a balcony and wondered which rooms with balconys have the best view.

Ok just realized that I am the only one posting here the last few hours....SORRY GUYS....hope you don't get bored reading my posts!

OK ....i did it!! Just booked a hospitality suite at the Dolphin for October 6 to 9. Hope i made the right choice, they only had one of these left. Still hoping someone has any info about the suite or some pics if available. Oh i forgot to ask if it has a balcony. Soooo Excited ..our first trip to the S/D.:yay::yay:

Thanks!

It was a regular room not a suite. It was #8021 - the wing that is the closest to the Y/C.

The best view I have had at either the S or D. We had 2 queen beds.

I didn't think the Dolphin had queen beds, just double's and kings.

Thanks!

Oops...double is correct! I have been staying at the Swan on our last 4 stays so I was stuck on queen beds...

One thing about that room - the walk to the elevator was a long one. I had no problem with that because the view was worth the walk.

Thanks, this was very helpful.

I am thinking of calling the hotel directly and asking how many conventions are scheduled for our dates to see if I can get any additional info.

This was a rough trip that could have ended up just awful had it not been for my mother, son, and on-call dentist.... I’d been having problems with an impacted infected wisdom tooth. The hope was to be able to handle it with antibiotics but the swelling was so bad that I ended up having no choice but to have it removed one day before we were supposed to leave on vacation

The next day was so awful that we called the airline and the Dolphin as asked about moving our trip - the airline fee was ridiculous but we moved it out by two days. The Dolphin was incredibly accommodating even though I’d booked a non-refundable trip (this will be the 1st and last time I book this - not worth it when life is just so unpredictable

We arrived late our 1st night at the RPR at Universal intending to go to the WWoHP the next morning - the pain and illness from the tooth made this impossible so we ended up saving this for another trip and moved to the Dolphin.

We’d booked a std view at the Dolphin with a note of “balcony if possible please” - SPG member and we were stunned to find out that we’d been upgraded to a room with a balcony AND we could see ToT and the really high Fantastic fireworks :lovestruc:lovestruc:lovestruc

Best - great price - about the same as a moderate with the AP pricing.

We spent a lot of time at the pool and here is the first good v. bad at the Dolphin....

Good - very nice pool, never busy in the morning, and plenty of shady areas. Made for a very nice breakfast spot too. We could also see the Illumination fireworks from the pool area one evening and that was incredible!!! DS (teen) loved the pool area and the volleyball net and we loved how quiet the area was in the mornings.

Bad - hours - our trip was mid/end of August and why in the world do they have such short pool hours????? Open at 9am an close at 9pm - that just doesn’t make sense at all..... AND what’s the deal with no pool towels being available expect during those hours too..... Very disappointed that 1st night but we made the most of it.... This is one reason I’d have to think hard about ever booking this resort again.

Good - location, location, location

Bad - large property where everything is very spread out and quite a hike to the pool and while yes you can look out the window and see WDW rides etc, DO NOT kid yourself that this is a Disney resort - it is not..... The tiny resort shops are the only nod to anything Disney - I’m one who likes these touches so it was something I noticed.

Good - Picabo though very pricy - $6 for a side of egg whites.... but at least it was available and we used this option each morning of our trip as I had lots of pain in the mornings/evenings and tended to sleep in - thank you mom!!!!!!!!!!!!

Bad - Very, very few options for allergies. I can’t have gluten or dairy and the options that are available at other resorts are just not here.... Rice dream is not available anywhere on resort property for example.

Worse - Horrible, horrible, horrible, snotty witch at the concierge desk when I asked about the possibility of a microwave being available somewhere on property. Due to being on a soft diet and the allergies above I had very limited options. We managed to find something I could microwave at a local grocery store but was told in no uncertain terms that I could not use or have it microwaved on property. She even told me that it was against the law for them to allow guests to use a microwave.... For freaking real... it might be against policy but the law - no I don’t think so.... I ended up and to the boat or bus over to the BC Marketplace and used the microwave and stopped at B&C to-go counter for Rice Dream. I didn’t want to waste precious vacation time on this but the nastiness of this witch was so horrible that I nearly went to find a resort manager. If something is not available fine but there is no way in this world that anyone should treat a guest or heck any person that way - yes I guess I’m still steamed at that one.....

Worst - the final kick in the teeth..... First before I go further I know this is my fault and I don’t need to have any rude comments about it - almost didn’t share but hopefully this will help someone else..... We left two bags of purchases on a shelf in the closet - total cost was minimal - under $50 total so that’s not the issue..... The issue is I called the very next day and was told by security that the room had been cleaned but not turned over to another guest so they’d check - well surprise surprise they couldn’t find the bags. Since the room had not been turned over it’s very very obvious to me that the items were stolen by an employee.

Would I return - well I’m not sure to be very honest. If the price was right and it wasn’t a non-refundable pricing option then well I can buy a lot of Disney touches to make up for the price :-)

Also the views are absolutely stunning and the location just can’t be beat - price of Epcot deluxe resorts for the price of a mod - wow that alone puts it in the running.

This trip started out absolutely horrible BUT thanks to my mom - really my best friend who I could never have done without and my son who has grown into a person that I respect not just love - he skipped WWoHP just for me as he wanted to wait until I feel better - it turned into a trip with memories that I’ll never forget!!!!

Minnie- hope your mouth is healed. Sounds like you made the most of your trip even with a few bumps in the road.

We just returned from the Dolphin as well.

A few points for your next visit:

Request a room in the west wing and the resort won't feel as big.
Pool towels are available at the health club when the pool shack is not open. The hours are 6 am to 11 pm. Also, we were able to use the pool outside of the stated hours in the morning.

Hopefully, your items left in the closet will turn up.

Minnie, I totally agree about lack of options for allergies! I have asked at most places at the Dolphin and I swear you hear crickets when you ask about options for allergies. No one seems to know. There is a sheet one chef showed me with like one option for gluten free.

The staff here have been TERRIBLE! I spent another hour today trying to get my bill figured out. The "manager" has not been very helpful. Anytime I have called and asked guest services a question, either they did not know or told me to go to the front desk.

The woman in charge of Camp Dolphin is a nightmare! So rude and thinks she knows it all. The staff at Camp Dolphin do not interact with the children at all. One just sits at the desk barking orders.

As far as the pool, we have seen the entire pool deck closed, so we have not be able to use the pool at all.

Could someone who is eating at Shula's Steakhouse, but NOT staying at the Dolphin, send their kids to Camp Dolphin while dining? I saw on the S/D website that Camp Dolphin is free for 2 hours when adults dine at Shula's (one child per adult entree ordered), but it didn't say anything about having to be a guest staying at the Dolphin.
