I just had a quick question:
We are booking our stay for September on Friday. What's the lowest possible rate that we can get right now? Are there any specials right now? We are not eligible for the teachers/nurses etc disc. We are getting married at the Swan but not having a reception, so we didn't qualify for the discount with that either.
Thanks in advance!!!
Hi, KristiLyn...welcome and congratulations on your upcoming marriage!

Here's a link to special rates at the S/D: http://swandolphin.com/offers/index.html

The Sunsational Savings rate is a great deal if your dates are firm, because it has to be prepaid. Otherwise, the AAA rate is the best. Keep checking back, though, because for the past two years, they've come out with really terrific rates in late July and August.

PS - it's also worth joining the Starwood Preferred Guest program, if you haven't already done so. You earn points for each stay and can qualify for additional perks and benefits, the more points you accrue. And be sure to let them know it's your honeymoon and that any consideration that could be given towards an extra-special room would be very much appreciated. September is a slow month...I'd be really surprised if they didn't give you some kind of an upgrade.

Best of luck!

Just wanted to share my S/D excitement! I have been planning split stay at Pop and S/D the second week of May. What I really wanted was 2 nights POP, and then 5 nights at S/D. I have done this before and loved it. I can't really take Pop's beds for very long but I love having ME on arrival (I don't care about it for going back to the airport but I love the welcome video and excitement!) and I do enjoy POP's gift shop/food court. Also, my POP rate is on a pin and so cheap.

However, the S/D had been completely booked for 2 days in May near the end of the week I'm going. It was ruining my plans. The way it was working out, I had to stay 4 days POP/3 days Dolphin and it was just making me kind of sad because then the Dolphin would represent the start of the end of my trip...

I was literally checking for availability multiple times a day FOR MONTHS. I read somewhere that sometimes conventions will block rooms and then cancel 30 days out. Nothing happened at 30 days and then I really started to panic.

Yesterday it finally happened. The Dolphin opened up and the same rate as my existing reservation was available! I get my perfect 2 night/5 night split stay and I am thrilled!!! The first night is on SPG points so that's even better

This will actually be my first time at the Dolphin... my other experiences have been at the Swan. I think the Swan rooms are probably nicer, but I do prefer the higher energy at the Dolphin, so all should be well.

We're also going to be at the Dolphin during the second week of May!

We're also going to be at the Dolphin during the second week of May!

Yay!! Have a great trip! I hope it's not too crowded. I figure the crowd levels must be somewhere between January and July (the months of my prior two trips...) Can't wait for the Fountain and Shula's and the pool :yay:

I just booked a trip, family of three (DD, 8) for five days starting July 5 at the Dolphin. Super excited. Could anyone tell me if reservations are required at the S/D restaurants? Are they recommended due to crowds?

Thanks.

I think that Shula's (smaller size) might be a good one to make a reservation for, and potentially the Garden Grove character meal at the Swan.

Now that our plane is arriving 3 hours early than expected, I've got a few questions about holding luggage at the s/d if our room is not ready.

How secure is the area they store your luggage? Would you trust leaving a bag with a laptop and electronics their?

Do they have anyplace we could temporarily store any items that need to be refrigerated from our grocery stop? We were planning on picking up some milk/juice.

Also, any suggestion on places that would be quiet enough for two young girls to take a nap if they need it. Not sure if they will need it, but options are always nice. :thumbsup2

We have arrived as early as 11 am (usually arrive before noon) & have always been able to check in to our room. I would call the hotel direct to see if they can accomodate early check in. We have checked out & had the Swan hold our luggage & not had any problems.

I am in the same position you are in. I want to book June 10,11,12 but no rooms are available maybe because of a convention. I dunno.

I have been watching and watching but those dates have not opened up and hopefully on the 30 day mark they might. If not, I will have to look elsewhere because I have 5 days that I need a hotel room. I can book free dining pin that I received at disney resorts but I still prefer the Swan/Dolphin over that. If nothing else opens up, Maybe I will book Coronado Springs. I am crossing my fingers and hoping and hoping and checking everyday for those dates to open up.:dance3::scared::worship:

Here are some second room pics. I have more but have not downloaded them all yet.

The next day we were moved to a new location. Seventh floor with a theme park view!!! We could see Epcot fireworks at night, when we were in the room. No balcony, but we didn’t reserve that so the upgrade was very nice. This room was a little bit bigger and no noisy ac!! The Dolphin moved our luggage too!

Thank you very much! I really appreciate it! I think I'll wait until July/August to book!

I had POP booked for the days I was hoping S/D would open up... just in case. Once S/D opened up, I cancelled those extra days at Pop... but it made me feel better to know that if I couldn't stay at S/D, I'd at least have a bed somewhere on Disney property!

Wednesday April 27th was when the Dolphin opened up for May 10/11... so, just about 13 days out. Don't lose hope! Good luck.

Hey Dan, just realized that you are leaving on May 2nd. Just wanted to wish you a safe trip, and have a great time.:thumbsup2

Great pics of the Dolphin's Picabu-I forgot how much snack foods they had there-we only ate meals there.:)

You are welcome! Our thoughts on our first stay at the Dolphin…
The staff was very accommodating and friendly. Check-in was fine and the lobby had a wonderful aroma!! Housekeeping was great and the room always looked good. My DD got a pedicure and manicure at the spa and she loved it, very nice and relaxing too.
We thought it was a little bit tricky to navigate the resort for the first day….east, west, and central elevators took us a few tries to figure out how to go directly to the food area, a few signs at the elevator would have helped us.
The S/D refillable mug is insulated and, I think, is a bit bigger than the Disney mug…cost 12.99. You can refill it 24 hrs a day. They do charge you a service fee at the quick service food area on everything you buy. No AAA discount on the mug, boxed snacks/chips, grocery food items, or toiletries. AAA only applies to the actual food and drinks.
The Disney owned store, on site, is big and has a lot of items. You get your AP discount there; even on the food items and toiletries they have with no service fee. I would buy those types of items at the Disney Store; it was only open until 11 PM though.
Transportation was fine, about like BW or any other resort. Since it was Easter, the pools were extremely crowded, but that is expected during this time. The pools were nice but no “quiet” pool away from the others (at least we didn’t find one) like at the BW or YC.
Although the atmosphere, staff, and location were great, my DD and I both would prefer to stay at a Disney owned deluxe resort in the future. Nothing wrong with the Dolphin and the price was good but we did miss the little Disney touches we have become accustomed to on our stays.
We had a great trip....but with Disney you can't go wrong!!!

We just got back yesterday and had a wonderful stay at the Dolphin!

Our experience with Tiffany Towncar was wonderful. Our driver was waiting for us at the baggage claim area and was very patient when our luggage was delayed for over a half hour. We were upgraded to a Lincoln Navigator SUV type of vehicle and our grocery stop was just what we needed. He handed us a card when we arrived at the airport with all of the return info we needed and we were on our way to find out where our room was! :goodvibes

The people at the regular check-in desk unfortunately were less than friendly and seemed to have many problems with multiple people. I was about fifth in line, and each person in front of me was complaining about some mistake that was made. About 25 minutes after waiting in line, it was my turn. I took out my teacher ID and passed it over to her, and she insisted my room rate was $120 more a night than I was quoted, and that was the "going" teacher rate. Good thing I had printed out my reservation info as she looked at it and said "oh". No sorry, then handed me my room keys and the info on the Dolphin and told me I was on the fourth floor (after I had requested months ago to have the highest floor possible :( ). Oh well, I wasn't going to let the check-in process spoil things so we had a bellman help us with our luggage and off we went to our room.

We had paid for the Epcot fireworks view...and at first I was disappointed by the fourth floor view, but grew to be ok with it. There is a line of palm trees that blocked our view from seeing Spaceship Earth (or as DD calls it "the Epcot ball") in its entirety, but we could see a bit of it peeking through the trees. I did ask if there was anything else available but because it was Easter weekend, no one would be checking out til Monday and I did not want to move again so we just stayed put. I was pleasantly surprised by the space in the room. I thought the Poly was spacious and the Dolphin room/beds seemed similar to the Poly ones :) Our balcony was nice, and I enjoyed watching the boats come and go and we did catch the fireworks three nights from our balcony. It was also fun to watch the people riding those big family bikes from the BW...we got a kick out of many families who just couldn't pedal the bikes and a few Dads were pushing the bikes from behind ! My one gripe about the Dolphin was the refrigerator...it was on high and was barely cold. I had bought milk and cheese from the grocery store, and they both went bad by day three because it was just not cold enough. I asked other people on the buses if they had the same problem, and they all agreed fridge was not cold.

The transportation was excellent! We never waited more than 5-10 mins for a boat to either HS or Epcot and the same on the way back. We did end up walking back from Epcot almost every night. We tried both paths...a few nights past the BW to catch the jugglers and play some games, and other nights past the YC/BC as my DD loved the baby ducks on the beach and the baby bunnies running around the Dolphin! Both paths were about 15 mins at a fairly brisk walk. Buses were also very efficient. The longest wait we had was to the MK on the morning it opened at 7am...we got down there at six am as we were told they start running an hour prior. That day, the bus didn't arrive until 6:45, then we went to the BW to pick up more people. We didn't make it for rope drop, but still had plenty of time before the crowds made their way into the park. The worst bus was to AK, as we shared with all Epcot resorts plus a stop to Blizzard Beach. The bus always came quickly, but the Dolphin was the second stop so we had to then go to YC then BC then BW then BB before we went to AK. We didn't go to DTD so not sure what the pickup schedule was like. There was always room on the bus, and we never had to wait for a second one, even during this crowded Easter week! :thumbsup2

I can't talk about the restaurants at all! We had breakfast in the room every morning and ate in the parks for lunch and dinner. We did try to get ice cream one night from the Fountain, but waited at the counter for 20 minutes with one more person to go in front of us and decided we really didn't want to wait a half hour to get an ice cream cone. They seemed understaffed at the walk up counter- only one person doing ice cream there for a fairly good crowd of people who were waiting. We did eat poolside and ordered food from the poolside bar at the Dolphin and it was fantastic! We had the flatbread (best I've had in a long time), grilled cheese, and a sandwich and we were pleasantly surprised at the quality. I would definitely order from there again, plus they deliver it to you wherever you are laying by the pool! :thumbsup2 The Fountain was always busy no matter what time of day we walked by, and Picabu was not. Fresh was closed our entire stay.

All in all, we were very happy with the Dolphin and everything it offered, and we will be going back again next year. The beds are definitely amazing. So comfortable it felt like a warm little cloud. Had a hard time sleeping many nights because of discourteous neighbors, but not the fault of the Dolphin. I am still amazed at the number of parents who allow their kids to run down the halls screaming at 1:00-3:00am! :scared1: It was very hot this week....between 92-97 degrees outside every day and our AC was nice and cool when we returned! :goodvibes Housekeeping did a great job with the room and always replenished the products. I liked the body lotion...smelled really nice! And speaking of smells, I love the scent they pipe into the lobby. Made me smile every time we walked in. That scent, as well as the one emanating from the Mandara Spa. When we walked off the elevator, I loved seeing the little Buddha statue lit up with a candle reflecting off the water, and the smell of aromatherapy coming from the spa...even though I never used it, I loved walking by it every day!

So, I never thought I'd love any hotel more than the Poly, but guess what? I'd trade the Poly for the Dolphin any day! :cheer2: There is so much more going on around the Dolphin, the lobby is just as beautiful with all the fountains, and the transportation to the HS and Epcot is priceless. The Epcot view was just as relaxing as the Poly theme park view, and the beds are much more comfortable than any deluxe bed from Disney. There are five pools to choose from, and the grotto pool area is beautiful with a really long stretch of beach to relax and play on with hammocks, volleyball, soccer nets, etc. There is a great full service bar with great food, the Boardwalk nearby for nighttime entertainment, and two choices of nighttime shows: Illuminations or Fantsmic! For the price of the Dolphin over Disney's deluxe resorts, I have been won over...I am now a Starwood member and am already planning our next trip to Disney! (just deciding on if I should try the Swan next year to try something a little different!) If anyone has any questions, please let me know. And as soon as I get some pics loaded, I'll post some!

Thanks again to everyone on here who helped me plan this vacation...I'm really glad I ended up at the Dolphin and can't wait to go back next year! (and the chocolate martini from the bar and the Slushies from France in Epcot were absolutely amazing BTW! :thumbsup2)

So now that I'm back and already planning for our next vacation (which is half the fun!), I'm trying to figure out if we should try the Swan or not. My DD would be tickled if our room faced the Tower of Terror and she could see it every day! Would we have a better chance of this view staying at the Swan or Dolphin? What wing and floor would I request at the Dolphin for a chance at seeing TOT? I was also considering the Dolphin again and requesting a patio room facing the grotto pool. What room category would this be? I was thinking "balcony room", but it isn't technically a balcony...

Back to the Swan....I went on the swandolphin website and there is no "epcot" view...seems like the best view to book is the resort view with balcony...do any of these balconies face Epcot and the Boardwalk? I'm looking through my pictures and can't tell by any of the ones I took of the Swan

We too just returned from our first stay at the Dolphin last week. We are true fans of BW and BC and decided after 30 stays it was finally time to try something new.

We loved the restaurants! I think they beat those "across the pond" hands down. We ate at Il Mulino, Bluezoo, Shula's on Easter and had a few lunches at Cabanas by the pool. All meals were fantastic and could not find a flaw with the service either. The buttermilk chicken caeser at Cabana's was fabulous! Drinks were a bit pricey (13.00 mojitos and 9.00 draft domestic beers) by the pool but we saw a number of people bringing their own coolers and they did not seem to have a problem.

My 'negative' thoughts - our room (11th flr West Building) was not once made up before 4pm. On Easter we spent the day at the pool and when we returned at 3pm to shower for dinner DH had to roam the halls looking for a maid to get clean towels. I also do not care for them closing the doors to the rooms completely when they are in the room. Had not seen this before at other properties. The pool seemed chilly to me for being heated and my biggest complaint of them all was the fact that you could come down early morning and "save" chairs without a problem. Completely the opposite of true Disney policy. On Easter morning we went down to the pool at 9am and there were not any chairs left around the middle pool (not the lap one and not the grotto) However - there were only 3 people in the pool! When I asked the pool attendant if he could move some of the magazines and newspapers on the chairs he said they were NOT allowed to ever touch personal property. Some of that stuff sat untouched until noon when people came back.

I think you get a lot of bang for the buck at the Dolphin but I missed the warm and fuzzies of the BC and the BW.
