Just joining the thread. I've lurked around the Disboards long enough.

Thank you to everyone for posting great information. We booked a 1BR Executive Suite at the Dolphin for Oct 4th - Oct 11th.

This will be MIL's first trip since my husband was a kid. She's really excited to see all of the changes.

If anyone's interested there are some videos of the Dolphin suites on the website where you post your own videos (not sure if I can mention the name). Some of the cinematography leaves a bit to be desired but you can get a good feel for the size of the rooms.

Welcome to the DIS, Lisa.

What website are you talking about? You can't post a hotlink until 10 posts, but you can post the website. If they don;t like it, they will censor it with *****'s

And welcome back everyone.

The Swan is our home away from home. Can't wait to be there on our honeymoon!

The Swan and Dolphhin give out upgrades a lot more than Disney owned resorts! :)

I must point out that I did get a very nice upgrade the one time I stayed at BC. Had booked a standard room and was given a water view room with full balcony. I was so grateful and the CM appreciated my appreciation, said it made her day!

Tis true - out of my 6 S/D stays I got an upgrade 5 times (IF this last one wasn't standard - if it was, then 4 upgrades!) In all my WDW stays I can't remember getting an upgrade even once.

I have to chime in too and agree with Mom Poppins
I've stayed at almost all Disney Resorts (Saratoga Springs is the only one I have not stayed at) and only got upgraded once and that was at BLT (we reserved a studio and got a 1br BL view but you could also see MK).

I would say 95% of the time we get an upgrade at S/D even when I book a room on points and request limited view I get upgraded. Not sure if its because I've been an SPG member for years or because I have SPG American Express or because I am there so much they just recognize my face!!

Welome back Tara glad you had a great time!

We check in the Swan on the 10th.... Been planning the trip for over 2 yrs. Is that too much? :) Only our 2nd trip to DW. The family isn't as excited as I am, but I think that will change when there is less than a week till we get there. Can't wait for our 1st stay at the Swan. I keep checking, but is anyone aware of what the crowds are supposed to be like for the 10th-15th? Also, I know Toon Town has closed in the MK....was the Barnstormer moved or closed down with that section?

Thanks,

DH and I are on an adult only trip to the gulf coast but I have managed to convince hubby that we should stay a night which is now 2 nights at the Dolphin.......Can't wait, we have never stayed on or close to the boardwalk and this is what we have wanted.....we have only stayed at Pop and all the mod's........any suggestions on a room request?

Hello---we will be checking into the Swan on Saturday! :cool1:

We have two mornings scheduled for MK; which is now opening at 8 am. So, my question is how long do the busses from the S/D take? Do they stop at other resorts? If so, Are they the first stop in picking up? Or the last?

Is it relatively easy to grab a cab out front; even if its pretty early in the morning? We have the BBB scheduled for Monday at 8 am, so I really want to be sure we get there on time, and was thinking about a car. The trick is to go to the Contemporary and walk over to MK, right?

Sorry for all the questions---just last minute planning!

TIA!

I like to be at MCO 2 hours before flight time. With Easter, I would say for sure be there 2 hours ahead.
Me too, Dan. Sometimes that security line takes forever. We've also had a long wait at JetBlue's luggage check in at times. For my nerves, I'm better to be there sitting at the gate and waiting. lol

No, they switched to Shine By Bliss a few years back. While it's a high end spa brand, I liked the Bath & Body Works products much better!

Me too! I love BBW "Coconut Lime Verbena" - my scent of choice at home - so I loved when they had it at the Dolphin..

We were evacuated from the Lobby Bar in June... (no, we weren't being rowdy!) and had to stand outside for about 20 minutes before they let us back in - no idea why. Luckily, we took our drinks with us. :lmao:

Congrats on a long-planned trip. It will be crowded, but shouldn't be too bad. I'm sure your family will have a blast!! :goodvibes

Off topic for a moment, but you can find all the information you need about Fantasyland in this thread: http://www.disboards.com/showthread.php?t=2622159&page=28

I believe Barnstormer is being relocated (and renamed - "Goofini"), but it won't be operational for quite some time. Check out that thread for great pictures and information. It will be terrific when it's finished, but right now much of it is closed off during construction so the area can get pretty congested.

That's great to know, but looking at the location of the Swan and the surrounding geography, I can't help but wonder if there IS a bad view.

Because I heart you, I checked the worst room view thread and did not see any submitted pics from the Swan. One person complained that you could see some portion of the roof from their room. The gripe was pretty "meh" compared to some of the bad views that were posted over there. Give it a look. Anyway, just look in the mirror and you'll get a great view. ;)
PS-This is your cue to start waterworks and Miss America face-waving to stave the flow of tears...

If you're in the "front" of the building, you overlook the back of BWV and Hollywood Studios. The "back" of the building faces the Dolphin, the Epcot resort loop and Epcot itself. I don't see how there can be a bad view...or am I wrong?

Also....is there turn-down service that can be requested?
You can see some of the views available on the S/D site here, and on the S/D Picture Thread here.

Of course, then there's the mother of all bad views, courtesy of Tara PA, from the Dolphin:

My thinking is, if you get a really bad view, call down and politely ask if there might be a better room available. The worst they can say is "no", and you spend the week with the drapes drawn!

How exciting for all of you! It's always fun seeing the parks through a fresh set of eyes, and seeing how they react to everything. And what a great time to be there, with the all the Halloween festivities in the MK, and the F&W Festival at Epcot, as well as at the S/D.

Congratulations! When in October will you be there?

If you have a standard - or "limited view" - room booked, there are any number of views you might have. Rooftops, parking lot. But if the hotel isn't that busy, you might luck out with a pool view, resort view or even a Boardwalk/Epcot view. It doesn't hurt to ask nicely when you check in.

My thinking is that if you request a room on a higher floor, you might have a better chance of some kind of a view, besides just a rooftop. Also, just be aware that the outer "wings" of the Dolphin are a major hike from the elevators...not a lot of fun walking back to your room late at night, after walking miles and miles in the parks all day.

Hi, and welcome!

I'm pretty sure buses to the MK and AK run a route of Boardwalk-Swan-Dolphin. It's maybe 15 mins to the MK, a couple of minutes more to AK. The bus to DTD is something else altogether! :scared1: The bus makes the three aforementioned stops, plus the YC and the BC...and Typhoon Lagoon (during daytime hours)...before finally arriving at DTD an hour later. Suffice it to say, we now take cabs, LOL.

Last year, we had an 8:05 breakfast ressie at Crystal Palace. We were at the Swan bus stop at 7:15, arrived at the park by 7:45. If you'd rather not chance it, then, yes...I'd cab it to the Contemporary and walk over. It's pretty easy to grab a cab out front of the hotel. If you don't see one waiting, just ask at the valet stand or front desk. Not sure how much the fare would be, though.

Have a wonderful trip!

I was just waiting for my infamous dumpster view to pop up in this conversation!! :rolleyes1

The bus service was great last week. Last week Dolphin was the last stop on the way to MK - only took 10 min. Going to AK, Dolphin was the 2nd stop though - Swan, Dolphin, YC, BC & BW...it took a full 20 min. to get to AK. Busses were never over-full, and they seemed to always be right there (both at the resort & at the parks) when we needed them. Even the DTD bus came within 5 min. of walking up to the stop, and the DTD bus always seems to be unpredictable. With the YC/BC dock being closed the boat service was amazing - there were always boats just waiting, idling, to pick anyone up! The YC/BC dock did re-open on Saturday.

LOL...that view is legendary. It has to be a part of any discussion about room views! :lmao:

I just had to throw this in - while there last week we got to witness a moment in Disney history (LOL)...while we were on the tea cups, looking at the big old Toon Town colorful sign behind the barracades - all of a sudden this huge backhoe comes along & BOOM! The sign went down! Here's a pic right as it was about to be destroyed:

Tara, welcome back and thank you for sharing your experience. Especially for remembering about the pool temp question (that was me! :thumbsup2) We are really looking forward to swimming and knowing ahead of time the water was warm really puts my mind at ease! :worship:
